I went with the Skybell over the Ring because Skybell offers free 7 day recording while you have to pay a monthly fee for Ring to store stuff over a much longer period. I just couldn't imagine that I would need to look back at a recording 60 days after the fact. Ring does have a more sophisticated motion sensor that you can manual adjust with zones and whenever someone walks in that zone it starts recording. Skybell is just a plain Jane sensor and often triggers with cars passing by on the street.
About the only other thing smart I think I would ever want would be a thermostat and I'm not even sure how "smart" I would go. I was looking at the Ecobee 3 lite.
