There's an excellent chance that Baldwin's not going to amount to shit at this level, even his fans (and I'll admit to being one) will concede that point.
However - look at the shit that Scooter left on this roster. What's the harm in giving him a year under a competent staff with a decent QB throwing him the ball?
Why are we so eager to cut him? He's not that expensive being a late first rounder. He shouldn't be getting displaced by Dexter McCluster or any of the parade of undersized non-prospects we've filled this roster with.
Committing to him as a guy that's going to be an elite #2 is a bad idea, yes. However, having seen flashes of what he's capable of and now having a staff in place that will play to a players strengths and not religiously adhere to a scheme, why not give him a season and see if we can salvage something from the pick?
I think we can safely conclude that he's not going to be a star in this league. I also think it's too early to conclude he can't be
anything in this league. A lot of WRs take a few seasons to develop; the superstars don't, but some pretty good ones do. Lets give the kid a year to see if he's taking the Vincent Jackson approach to being a decent player. We don't really have anything to lose.
