I watched it the other day as well. Honestly don't know what to think of it.
There wasn't much of anything you hadn't seen somewhere before already.
But then, a lot of it was nice to see woven back together in a new patchwork of storytelling.
Hated the matchup of driving sequences to realism. I swear there was a point in the opening sequence where he upshifted 8 times and was doing all of 30 mph.
Not sure what I think of the extended stare-offs. I get that it makes Gosling this fascinating cipher and Mulligan the inquisitive and fascinated outsider. But it was like half the movie. But again, I don't know about Gosling, but I could do worse than spend an afternoon looking into Mulligan's eyes.
It's like a Tarantino knock-off wanted to make a silent [with orchestra score] homage to Miami Vice.
