Two things:
1. Your team is NOT a contender.
2. And you ARE paying the same exorbitant fee for your starting QB for the next 2 years. $57.5 million this year and a more manageable $36.5 million the following year. Just because he’s not on your team anymore doesn’t mean you’re not footing the bill for the QB.
Finally, what ‘older stars’ are KC overpaying? Travis Kelce? He got an extra 4 million total for the next 2 years. Big whoop. Peanuts. Joe Thuney? Maybe, but this will likely be his last year here. Chris Jones? Sorry, try again. He got the contract he deserved and his play is still elite.
