It's just hard to look at these negotiations without considering how they went last time. And the fact that the Katz brothers are mouth-breathing window-lickers.

At this point the Chiefs just don't have the leverage to really lean into some of the things I'd think they should've been able to accomplish last season. Best shot they have is Mahomes/Kelce convincing Jones to take command of the discussions and get the deal over the line.
I don’t think it’s an ideal move for the team. But I also think they have no substitutes for Jones. None. Literally none. Our interior DL is a barren wasteland and the Omenihu injury backs them up into an even darker corner.

I really like Jones, but he’s not a guy to explicitly trust beyond the contract year. As has probably been cited before here, Nate Tice has done work on his run fits and the evidence is he load manages himself. Implies he’s a guy whom a new contract could affect. He has a lot of reasons to be worth it regardless but that’s a real concern for a guy on a third contract.
