I'm less concerned about age than consistency.
His age is priced into his contract. A 26 yr old Robert Quinn coming off an 18.5 sack season damn sure wouldn't be playing on a $12 million deal. You'd have an obvious hold-out situation.
So if you want a guy with the UPSIDE that Quinn presents, you can either pay through the nose for it or deal with the age concerns.
But I've seen plenty of DEs stay pretty effective in their early 30s. That doesn't bother me. What does is that he has some real up and down years and hasn't had back to back standout seasons since he was a pup.
I think if you go ahead and average the guy he was from 2017 through 2019, that's about what you can probably expect out of him. Something closer to 9 sacks/season and steady but unspectacular pressure.
In other words, you can probably reasonable expect something similar to what Von Miller did last season over the course of the year. If that's the case, would you rather save your pick and a few bucks, sacrifice the upside and sign Carlos Dunlap? Hard to say - I guess I don't have a firm opinion on either direction there.
But we gotta add a veteran pass rusher to this roster. And like I said, I'd be more than happy adding
two.
