Prior to the start of his elite years, he did just enough to help his team win three Super Bowls, and ever since he started declining a bit over the last couple years, he did just enough to add another Super Bowl win to the resume.
The REALLY impressive part about Brady to me is that he successfully made the transition from shitty game manager QB in his early years to eye-popping stats QB as soon as he had Gronk/Hernandez as well as Moss and Welker. Like, he didn't just break 4000 once in awhile-- he set single season records with that shit.

His last three championships are a ****ing joke, though. He certainly earned them because he got that far, but two of them were outright ****ing gifts on single plays (Dee Ford and Bevell not giving Lynch the ball). And the Falcons win is absolutely tremendous-- he everything he had to and made no errors. But he was also gifted a ton of shit by the Falcons. And I don't want to hear about how Mahomes shouldn't have a Super Bowl by the same logic. Mahomes forcibly raped the Texans in the span of a single quarter and further stepped on the gas to leave no doubt in anybody's mind that the Chiefs weren't gifted any favors in that playoff win.

All-time great stats (career and single season) as well as 3 legit championships is plenty for me to consider him top 2 all time. He's probably the greatest when you account for those 3 other Super Bowl appearances. But his last three Super Bowls are jokes. They shouldn't be asterisks, but let's say some guy comes along and wins 4 Super Bowls the legit way, has awesome stats both single season and career, and DOESN'T have a notorious reputation for playing for a cheating franchise. I'd probably give that guy the nod as the GOAT.

Championships are a significant part of a player's resume. They're the most important, you could say. But they aren't everything.
