They're there. We just don't always see them due to budget constraints.
Like we basically never see Ghost. We also didn't see the dragons last episode but we know they're around.

Nearly his entire identity was in his fighting prowess. He lost that when he lost his hand.
He's not emasculated, he's just a cripple and is being forced to change his character.

Doubt they go that road in the show. I'm not sure they've even mentioned Blackfyres or the GC's founding.
