I'm not sure that is 'complete disagreement'
I'm not arguing that Chuck's shitty standards didn't sting Jimmy, just that it didn't destroy him, leaving only a husk behind.
The point is he has now gotten beyond needing external approval. He's not rebelling, or trying to prove himself worthy by alternative means. He's through giving a shit what 'they' think.
