I think your problem is the assumption that you calling it the "best best example of a genre" means that it actually is. When the reality is that it's just one guy's opinion. Same as someone else, say me for example, saying they don't think Pacific Rim was all that great a movie because as cool as the robots and kaiju models were, many of the shots were just too tight to make coherent action beats, or because much of the plot and nearly all of the individual character beats in the movie (which were clearly prominent parts of the movie) just weren't done very well.
Saying that doesn't mean I hate kaiju movies, it just means I had some issues with
this one. Things that I thought should have been done better, with both the technology and the quality of the talent involved, both in front of and behind the camera. YMMV and I'm completely fine with you not having the same qualms with the movie that I did. I'm not trying to convince you or anybody else of anything, just explaining why I didn't quite love it. It just wasn't quite the movie I hoped it was going to be, with all the folks involved. I was disappointed. Didn't hate it. Not saying it was bad. Just that I hope #2 is a bit... more.
