South Park creators sign new massive $900 million deal with ViacomCBS

The creators of “South Park” have signed a new deal with ViacomCBS Inc. that will pay them more than $900 million over the next six years, one of the richest deals in TV history.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone will use the money to make new episodes of “South Park” for Viacom’s Comedy Central network and to create several spinoff movies for the company’s Paramount+ streaming service, the parties said Thursday. Their first project under the new deal will be a movie set in the world of “South Park” that will debut some time before the end of the year.

Outstanding news! And for those that think South Park has fallen off, I politely disagree. The recent South Park "Vaccination Special" had me dying laughing pretty much from start to finish. Funny as hell.

Can't wait for more South Park! :thumb:

They need content. They have a lot of content targeted at an older group. This is one of the few shows not targeted at the aging group. Go all in with a proven product. If I was an exec at Viacom, it would be a no brainer.

Is it though? It's been on since the 90s, do young people watch it? I'm dubious, but I honestly don't know.

Seriously good for them. They’ve taken the medium to an unforeseen level. Man that’s a lot of money. Can’t wait to see whats next. #uncle****er.

It's been the top rated cable comedy for a long time now, even in the 18-49 demo.

Yeah. How they make their shows is genius on keeping them relevant to what is going on.

The last ten years is awesome.

They also learned before bigbangtheory to bring in new characters to keep it going.

What? It's growing up with it's audience. The grown-ups are much more prominate now.

Great show

That’s insane money. But good for them.

I didn’t realize this show was still popular though?

I feel like it peaked around the late 90s when the movie came out.

GayFrogs 08-06-2021 11:37 AM

This is amazing. I thought seasons 21-23 were kind of tired but the specials were great. I'm curious what the spinoffs will be.

In worse news, that's another app I'll have to subscribe to.

It may have peaked in popularity in the 90s but the show was a lot worse then. Randy and butters barely existed back then and the episodes were all over the place imo.

You've got to thank the Manatees at Family Guy to push Trey and Matt to evolve the show.

Randy centric episodes are still the best IMHO
