Pioli has a real fail trail he is leaving.

This makes as much sense as the time he cut Jared Gaither in favor of Barry Richardson

This is prob a good time to remind KC fans that Pioli has drafted a CB each year. No position has gotten more attn. And it's still a wreck.

Ya know, I hated Herm's coaching style, but it was HE who inherited a VERY OLD depleted roster and rebuilt it with a bunch of fresh young talent.

I remember him saying that the franchise needed to take 2 steps back in order to move forward and a bunch of guys got moved/cut while he rebuilt through the draft. I respect that Herm saw what needed to happen and did what needed to be done even though it affected his future.

Now Pioli has come in and fucked all of that up. The past 4 years have been a giant waste of talent. I feel sorry for Hali, DJ, Charles, Flowers.

I don't understand why everyone is all up in arms over this move. Don't get me wrong it is not a move which is going to fix anything. But, Routt has be HORRIBLE.

Pioli knows Clarks bank account is going to take a HUGE hit for the balance of this year and in season tickets renewals, so he is trying to save a little cash. Routt is not the answer so why not cut him.

Yup.

By the time we start fixing the weaknesses on this team, the strengths will have aged to the point that they need to be replaced.

If a new GM came in and 3 consecutive drafts as good as the 2008 draft, we'd have a contender by about the 3rd of them.

That's not going to happen.

**** it - get the #1 overall pick and trade down. I don't even give a !@#$ at this point. This team is a disaster and it's just going to suck for the foreseeable future.

Christ. Crennel does one thing even marginally well and that's what he fired himself from. But hey, thank God the fat bastard has more time to dedicate to the offense now.

That's exactly correct. Roleo is experienced and reasonably successful at the one thing he will no longer be doing.

Step by incredible step, Pioli has destroyed this team. And the most horrific aspect of it all is that the worst is yet to come.

Crennel removes himself as Chiefs’ defensive coordinator
By ADAM TEICHER
The Kansas City Star
Romeo Crennel
DAVID EULITT
Romeo Crennel

In an effort to fix some of the many problems ailing the 1-7 Chiefs, head coach Romeo Crennel announced today that he has giving up his duties as the defensive coordinator, handing them over to linebackers coach Gary Gibbs.

The Chiefs also released starting cornerback Stanford Routt, signed last winter as a free agent, and signed defensive lineman Shaun Smith, a former Chief.

In relinquishing the defensive coordinator duties, Crennel said he was trying to eliminate the perception that he’s spending too much time on that side of the ball and ignoring the offense.

“I will continue to be in meetings sometimes,” Crennel said. “I will meet with Gary on a regular basis as well as I do with (offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and special teams coach Tom McMahon) to know what the game plan is and what’s going on there. But I’m going to spent more time with the whole team and less time with the defense.

“We have a young team and some guys, the perception may be that I’m a defensive coach , that I’m a defensive coordinator, and I don’t care about other parts of the team, which is not true. But their perception may be that. By my being with them more, I think they will see I’m concerned about the whole team.”

Routt was one of the Chiefs’ big off-season, free-agent signings. He replaced Brandon Carr, who left as a free agent for Dallas.

When the Chiefs signed Routt, who played seven years with the Raiders, coaches said they would have to integrate him into their way of doing things.

“The transition was taking a little bit longer than I thought it was going to take,” Crennel said, “so we just felt like it was time to part ways.

“He was trying to learn the system and he trying to adapt and making some progress at that but I needed it to be faster. I thought it was going to be faster but it wasn’t happening so I made the move.”

Routt missed last week’s game against San Diego because of what the Chiefs called an injured hamstring. Javier Arenas started in his place and Crennel said Arenas would probably start in next Monday’s game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

Smith, who played with the Chiefs in 2010, takes Routt’s 53-man roster spot after signing a contract for the final eight games of the season.

The move gives the Chiefs depth at defensive line. Glenn Dorsey reinjured his calf in last week’s game against San Diego. Dorsey missed the previous four games and played against the Chargers before leaving the game for good with the injury.

Smith was one of the more popular players while he was with the Chiefs because of his outgoing personality. He played in all 16 games for the Chiefs in 2010, starting 10. He left after the season to sign with Tennessee, where he played last year.

Smith had not played in the NFL this season. He previously played for New Orleans, Cleveland and Cincinnati in his nine-year NFL career.

Whoa. RAC admitting that he's dangerously close to losing the team. I assume it's already happened, but coaches rarely admit as much.

Chiefnj2 11-05-2012 02:22 PM

"However, the combination of Javier Arenas and Travis Daniels was clearly out of its depth as outside corners in Routt’s absence. Arenas has built a reputation as a solid return man and slot corner, but in combination with Daniels the Chiefs’ right corner spot allowed all nine of their targets to be caught for 127 yards and the back shoulder score by Malcom Floyd at the start of the fourth quarter. That the Chargers never chose to target Brandon Flowers once in this game only serves to highlight the Chiefs’ struggles opposite him."

"Further proof that Crennel is CLUELESS - Routt SUCKS ASS JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE TEAM. They didn't have to "integrate" anything.

Why am I so dumb.

Fact: Routt has been terrible.
Fact: Attendence will be down 60% for the balance of the year.
Fact: Season ticket renewals will take a huge hit.

Routt's entire contract was not guaranteed so cutting him will save money.

I get Carr should have been resigned, but you can't change history. You have to deal with the present.

Route is probably an ubber-douche...it's part of being a raider.

That said, it's on no one but the GM, Scott Pioli for making that rat-shit decision and trying to sell it as sunshine up the collective ass of this fanbase.

I hope a waiter defecates in Pioli's dinner tonight.

We've felt like the Quarterback was a "little slow to come around too".

Routt wasn't playin well but he was seriously light years ahead of Daniels.

FIRE PIOLI NOW

There is so much stupidity in this statement that I don't even know where to begin.

Let's all stick our thumbs up our asses and sing happy songs.

FAX

8 games later and our HC is just now going to get involved with the team.

I've got 2 mins into his next post game interview before he says "I don't know."

Can we "Waive" Pioli, now?

Chiefs CB De’Quan Menzie just tweeted “change is good.” Menzie is on IR. Was Routt a problem in the locker room or something?

That is so stupid. On the field problems (Cassel) > locker room problems (Routt?)
