I'm having an ice water right now.

Rogue is... interesting. I like their double chocolate stout... the bacon maple beer was like drinking bud light with bacon grease, but was okay enough as a one time novelty... the peanut butter banana chocolate ale is easily the weirdest beer I've ever tried (and would drink again).... pumpkin patch is definitely worth a try, IMO.

I go to the mid-town Gomers. It's not that bad a drive from where I am. I'll look for it there next time I'm there.

And I was kind of thinking Dead Guy Ale when I was talking Rogue. I'm not sure about all those others. :spock:

Having a Saddlebock Brewery (local) Fayettechill Amber Farmhouse Ale.

Boozy at 8%.

Yeah, this brew is a partnership between Saddlebock and a local lifestyle brand, Fayettechill:

Heh, I haven't had Dead Guy Ale for a while, but it's pretty good, too. I've narrowed down my taste quite a bit in the past year or so to mostly stouts, but I try some weird stuff, too. :)

I love stouts and porters. And actually, I don't typically care for pale ales of any kind. Every so often a Dead Guy Ale hits the spot though.

And I am all for experimenting but, a couple of those sound just a bit too bizarre for me.

The owners are total bro stoners (mid 20s) who happened on a genius formula. They just buy existing products from other producers (water bottles, camping gear, fleece garments, etc...), slap their brand on them, then sell them. They go like hotcakes in the "hyperlocal" economy that this town espouses. Meanwhile, not a damned thing that they sell is made locally. They basically just sell an image, but it's perfect for a college town that wants to have a unique, local identity.

Thanks for the tip!

I recommend Firefly sweet tea vodka and lemonade. The right mix and it goes down quicker than a crack whore for a $20 bill.

Firefly sweet tea vodka. Not Firefly sweet tea, vodka and lemonade.

Maybe I didn't need to point that out but, your response led me to believe some clarification might be needed. :)

I thought they're raspberry wheat was the worst beer I've ever tried in my life and that's soured me on them. If I'm going national brew, I'll choose all Leinenkugel brewing beers, which mirror quite a bit of the shock top line but are way better, IMO.

Pablo 09-24-2013 05:50 PM

O Fallon makes a pretty good pumpkin beer if you're around the KC area.

Don't know about shock top. I either buy local brews or cheap domestics. Might try it out.

I really don't consider their raspberry wheat a "beer." I enjoyed it, but it is overly fruity. Their Belgian wheat is really good. And so is their Pumpkin wheat - it's one of my favorite fall brews.

Leinenkugel is my favorite brand right after Boulevard Brewing Company.

I don't get all of the hate for red beers. Hell, one of my best hang over cures is a red eye, red beer with a raw egg at the bottom. Chug it down and have another if the hang over is really bad. Getting that egg down is a bit tricky but, once you have accomplished that you are on the road to recovery.
