TBG got me thinking--Help Me Build a Desktop
Well, TBG got me thinking with his thread, and so I want to build a desktop. I have never done this before and have always just bought a computer in a B&M store. I don't play any games, so it doesn't need to be able to do that. Here is what I need it for:
-Browsing the internet--want it to be fast -Basic document applications like Microsoft Office, etc. -Photoshop photo editing -POSSIBLY some video editing -Needs to work on a dual monitor setup -Needs to work with the following parts, which I have already bought: LITE-ON Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 CD/DVD Burners (RW Drives) SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive I also already have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit that I will be installing. I do have a Microcenter close, so I would be able to buy there if it makes sense, or Newegg or any other retailer. Would like to keep the amount around $400 if possible since I already have the Hard Drive and DVD Burner. Thanks for any help or suggestions on a build! |
what is your budget?
|

I would say around $400 or close to that since I already have the hard drive and DVD burner. |

Here is a very general breakdown of what think it would cost:
CPU\Motherboard - $120 minimum (this would be a fairly low end CPU) Memory - For 4GB you are probably looking at around $100 Case - $50-100 Video Card - $100 Sound Card - (won't need if motherboard has integrated sound) Monitors - $100 a piece |

I have 2 20" LCD monitors already. Just need the CPU built. And I could go a bit above $400. Just trying to keep it in that neighborhood since I have already bought the monitors, hard drive and DVD burner. |

I agree and the input is very helpful |

Edit: The power supply I quoted probably isn't strong enough. Good catch Metro and thank you.
Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply 84.99 Brings your total to = 576.98 (approximately) |
Thanks for the build idea Dirk.
