2018 Black Friday Thread

Anyone found any amazing deals yet? A lot of ads finally started coming out.

I'm looking for a good 65 inch 4k smart TV, maybe a nintendo switch. Always up for hunting and fishing stuff as well. Bought a bunch of video games last year during it.

Whatcha got?

SuperChief 11-15-2018 02:30 PM

Walmart
Best Buy
Costco Membership

Old Dog 11-15-2018 02:45 PM

pretty much all of the ads here:

waiting to see the ones from Menards.

This isn't a Black Friday ad but this is an awesome price on the 1950x threadripper. You can even get another $30 off if you bundle with a motherboard. I am building a desktop for some processing stuff and if I was close to one of these stores I would consider it even if it is a little more than I was going to spend.

https://www.microcenter.com/product/...oxed-processor

edit: I wonder if anyone will have anything as good or better around Black Friday. This would make one hell of box to run ESXI on .

DJ's left nut 11-15-2018 03:20 PM

Really wanting a nicer price drop on that LG C8 OLED. That's just a fantastic television and it's pretty cheap as is, but LG has offered better black Friday deals in the past than they are this year.

At a shade under $1,700 I'm inclined to consider it, but that's really just a $200 discount over where you could get them anyway and with the '19s coming out soon, that will be the going rate in short order.

If they'd drop that sucker down to $1,500 for the 55'', I'd be all over it.

TCL is kind of garbage but holy crap, that's cheap.

Going to be a huge year for discounts.

My daughter (aged 23) wants an iPhone 8/9 for Christmas. I still have a flip phone (cave man) thus have no clue. Black Friday, or currently any day that ends in "Y", best deal?

We’ve got a 55” and I’ve got no complaints about it. Is it the greatest TV ever? No. But they aren’t super ****ing expensive either.

Jerm 11-16-2018 10:05 AM

TCL TVs are actually pretty damn decent budget 4k TVs...esp. for gaming.

Which is why I want one. We’ve got a 55” on the living room but I’m gaming on a 32” that I’ve had for years. Plus the kids like the Roku interface.

Put one in my wood shop. Roku built in helps a lot when my kids hang out.

No complaints, in fact it’s decent.

Fish 11-16-2018 11:17 AM

TCL TVs get pretty good reviews for quality and low price.

SuperChief 11-16-2018 11:50 AM

I can't stand Roku. That shit is slowwwwwwww. And the UI really sucks.

TVs, mattresses and car stereo systems are places where salesmen absolutely love me because I'll always pay a little more for a little better.

Those are long-term purchases; 5 years or more as a general rule. Another $1,000 over 5+ years is less than $10/mo so it's just not a worry of mine. And you get a heck of a lot in return there; sort of the gift that keeps on giving over that 5 years because those are things you'll use every single day.

It's just such a good set. I mean I haven't been able to find a single cross word said about the thing. Some folks prefer one of Samsung's higher end QLED models because it's brighter and Sony has a new one that's a damn light cannon so it does color variation better, but both of those are quite a bit more expensive and not better; just a little different.

There doesn't appear to be a significant technology change on the horizon in the immediate future, so this is going to be a top of the line set for the next couple of years at least. Just a slam-dunk purchase, IMO.

But like I said, I think I can hold out just a little longer and get a better deal. Costco does a price adjustment where they'll put money back on your card if the price drops for 90 days after purchase, though so I may just decide 'screw it' and if a better deal comes around in December I'll have Costo slap some money back on my card.

I totally get this sentiment - especially regarding televisions. I purchased a Sony Bravia 40" almost 10 years ago, used pretty heavily for streaming and games. Still works like it's brand new. Yeah, it cost like $700 or so. Well worth it.

Zero percent chance I’d pay a premium for equivalent Sony technology. And while I LOVE my Samsung FN8500 plasma (the last great set of the plasma era), OLED > QLED.

May keep an eye on Frys if in your area. I picked up the fairly new at the time 2017 model 55” over 2017 4th of July there on an unadvertised sale for $1,700 and recall they may have been around that last Black Friday. Slickdeals is a good source and avsforum has a deals section.

Love the set but only slight comment is it really shines when your room is dark but doesn’t do a brighter room as well as some of the better FALD LED. Better than plasma in this respect though.

I saw that too. Didn't think the reviews were that great but it's an amazing price. Saw a Vizio 65 inch in Walmart for 399 but i assumed something was up with it. Went home, researched it and found out it was actually a really good TV and was over 750 everywhere. Went back and they were sold out. damnit!

I have a 75'' Samsung I got last year and had twins shortly thereafter. That thing had maybe 30 hours of use on it before the whole thing just melted down. Had to send it to a tech who had to wipe and replace the guts on the whole thing.

It was within warranty by a couple of weeks still because Samsung didn't even count my warranty from the date of purchase; they did it by date of manufacture (I even told them I had my receipt). So when it ate shit in August, the warranty was set to expire in September.

Now I'd imagine if I'd have actually been past my warranty date and raised hell, they'd have honored the purchase date, but FFS, this wasn't a cheap television and it was getting little to no use; there's no reason at all for it to have just stopped working so soon.

I just think it's the luck of the draw, I've got a 75" 4K Samsung I bought at Best Buy two years ago. It was selling for $2300 and they sold me the floor model for $1500, knock on wood, it's still going good.

In 2012 I bought a Vizio 60" HD smart TV on Sam's website because I wanted it delivered, didn't have a way to pick it up. My neighbor liked mine so he got the same one, but he bought it from the store. Within a month his picture went black. He called and Sam's sent him a brand new one in the box, they said Vizio had a recall on certain serial numbers, mine was not one I guess because it came from the warehouse in Texas. It's still going great in the M/BR now.

DeepPurple 11-22-2018 09:47 AM

As far as deals. I was in Target on Tuesday and they had a Vizio 70" Ultra 4K for $598, I couldn't believe it. It wasn't even in the Black Friday flyer today, it was just a regular sale two days ago. Might still be going on.

As far as plasma TV's go, they're a problem. I bought a Panasonic 50" at Circuit City in 2007 for $1500. In 2011 when I moved a 1000 miles, I had to make sure the movers didn't lay it flat, it has to remain upright or the color gets ruined. In 2012 I got a red line down the middle of the screen. Called the service company, they said it was a circuit board and would cost $500 to fix. I gave it to my neighbor for his daughter to use at college. Then I got a 60" LED TV and my electric bills went down $25 a month. That TV was costing almost a $1 a day more to operate, and it was only a 50".

Actually from what I'm reading, the Galaxy S5 should be unlocked and able to use either GSM or CDMA. I'm not 100% positive if that's true, as I haven't tried it. But if true, I have a Galaxy S5 bought from Verizon that you can test out and see if it works. I tried to sell it but didn't have any luck. I'll offer it for a case of beer if it would work for you. In perfect shape. Included case, 16GB microSD card extra storage, and factory charger. Just did an update and factory restore a few weeks ago thinking a friend might need it but that fell through...

No idea if this was totally in jest. Target has respectable deals. No idea if it is the best.

Pretty sure it's a SM-G900V. But I don't have the phone with me at the moment. I'll have to check on Monday to be sure.

If that is the case a case is yours. Is it still fairly snappy?

+1 on buying a Casper.

Got the mattress. Didn't go Casper, but splurged and got a high end Sealy with the bells and whistles. Got it just about half price, as well. Will keep the Casper in mind for down the road, though.

Now on to cookware and kitchenware. The local news was doing their annual Black Friday sales filler report, and they said the best time to get kitchen stuff is on Cyber Monday. Amazingly, I have never tried to buy shit on Cyber Monday. Should I wait, or just go get the shit this weekend?

Picked up a 65 in roku TCL TV for 398. Also grabbed God of War for 21$, Need for speed and need for speed rivals for $5 each and the complete wolfenstein 2 game for 19$.

The reserve was $14 for a full snifter glass

It's a good phone. I really liked it made me buy another galaxy. Let me know if you're interested.

Only thing questionable would be the battery. You can get a replacement for $15 and it would be like brand new: https://www.amazon.com/IBESTWIN-Repl...3048040&sr=8-5

Bought a different TV because I didn’t want to depend on Walmart to have them by the time I got there. Went there last night to get some kids movies and they still had like 20 TVs. FFfffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Oh well. Got the better series from TCL for a good price. I’m happy.
