Did anyone catch this? Definitely a different flare from what Marvel shows usually are. I liked it, and I'm curious to see where they take it from here.

Buehler445 02-12-2017 02:12 PM

I didn't. Can you explain it some? I thought I was going to be super into Preacher. I couldn't.

Noah Hawley - All you had to say.

It's set in the X-Men universe. The main character is Xavier's bastard child whom Xavier has no knowledge of (per the comics, anyway). He has incredible abilities, but he thinks it's all in his head and he is suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder.

It was a quirky first episode, but I liked it. I'll give it a chance going forward.

And you didn't like Preacher? WTF

bowener 02-13-2017 08:42 AM

This was an incredibly done episode. I really hope fox takes the xmen franchise away from Singer, and hands it over to this guy. The only negative I had for the entire show was:
Spoiler!
. None of that ruined the previous 65 minutes of beautifully done cinematography and editing. Not to mention solid acting (Dan Stevens does a great american accent btw).

I would love to see Fox work the marvel model, but in reverse. Make a few different series/miniseries, and have them culminate in films for big boss battles. I would kill to see Hawley write/direct a Weapon X story line for Logan.

MahiMike 02-13-2017 03:14 PM

It was really good. Reminded me of clockwork orange.

Oh yeah, I'm still watching.

The latest episode is......strange.

I'm starting to get the feeling that all of this is taking place in David's own mind, or he is otherwise incapacitated and someone is torturing him from the inside. I still think his monster is Mojo.

I don't think it is all in his mind but I am questioning who the bad vs good guys might be. If it isn't in his mind lets run down his list of things he can do...

1. Read peoples minds
2. Move shit with his mind
3. Teleport people to different locations

If he finds out he can control people he has reached just about God level.

It took me forever to finally have it click, but Lenny is Tatiana in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. I could never place her face, and it was driving me nuts how I knew her (figured it out without looking it up, so I'm very proud of myself. Don't cheat me the small victories in life, people). Parks and Rec is a quality sitcom, it starts off slow because it's trying to be a sequel to The Office, which it does OK but the hook of 'documentary' doesn't really explore all the situations possibilities. After the first mini-season, it shifts subtly to the personalities of the cast. Further, the writing tightens up as they keyed into the absurdist humor in trying to run local government with all the small time egos and gripes they have to deal with. It's not so much about the plot or the narrative as the little moments, situations and scenes.

All the actors are top-notch as is the writing. It's not mind-blowing or revolutionary, but it's comfortable and endearing like an inside joke between lifelong friends. Kind of like hanging out with wisecracking buddies like on Cheers and Friends.

This show is so good I don't have any reservations at all about paying the outrageous season fee to see it without waiting for it to show up on hulu. I will watch it repeatedly each episode. First watch is for the visceral reaction, and as strange and confusing as it can be, nothing ever feels nonsensical. I am so impressed by that. It might be because the visual design is so strong that it can hold me snugly through the insanity, or I guess delusion this season. Those repeating shapes and colors are a language at this point. Just masterful work.

Yeah, very much so.

I think this shit, all of it, is all inside David's mind, minus the Shadow King. SK has him captive somewhere, and he's putting the screws to him by living out this reality in his mind. David is literally every single person on this show, minus the Shadow King.

Why are we not talking about this more? Jesus Christ. **** Farouk. David is going to pound your ass now! God damn. I was legit crying at the end of that episode.

Bowser 05-06-2018 08:57 AM

Ha! Was just coming in here to bump this up!

Farouk has been toying with David this whole time, and bringing Lenny back seemed to be the final straw. Hopefully this means David isn't going to hold himself back any longer, or try to play good guy mediator between Farouk and everyone else.

This show is just completely ****ed, but I love it.

FlintHillsChiefs 05-06-2018 09:02 AM

**** Farouk. David better pound his ass into the sand.

FlintHillsChiefs 05-06-2018 09:05 AM

Yeah, most definitely.

We got a glimpse of what David can potentially do (I think), now let's see if he WILL do it against Farouk (I said it earlier - I think David is literally every character in the show minus the Shadow King, and this episode kind of reinforced that idea for me. Farouk just randomly showed up a couple of times making me think David is literally his prisoner and Farouk is literally in his head, torturing him).
