Are you worried about Sammy Watkins?
Dude disappears a lot. Drops some balls. Worry? Or no?
|
No, he'll be gone soon enough. Mopey ****. Sick of looking at him look like his dog died every time he catches the ball.
|
Not worried. I just know what he is at this point which is an average receiver.
Hard to be worried about someone you never really had high expectations for. |
Don’t think he was as bad as it seemed.
4 catches, 50 yards. Drew a hold. He’s also a big enough threat to draw Gilmore’s attention which is really ****ing nice for Hill and Kelce. |
Time for Pringle.
|
He contributed tonight.
That's all we can ask for I guess. LMAO |
Gotta be up there with Berry and Houston in the overpaid category.
|
Seriously guys. Think about this. He draws the coverage of Gilmore.
If he does hardly anything else, that’s pretty damn helpful. But in his last two games vs. NE against Gilmore predominantly? 154 receiving yards. |
Terrible signing for the $$ we gave him. Next year it’ll be Hill/Hardman
|
Not worried about him when Hardman or Pringle or Robinson is on the field and not him.

He had a couple times where he could have fought for a first and didnt

I am most worried about the legion of CP pussies starting 'are you worried' threads en masse after we just beat the Patriots on the road in December.
I am most worried they do not enjoy happiness. |

He's a good player.

I am worried that Sammy Watkins has apparently mentored DRob on holding the football out with one hand when running after the catch.

But I think you could've chosen someone like Mitchell Schwartz. A lot of people here are genuinely worried about Watkins. A guy who isn't on our team next year. |

In no situation has that ever been a more beneficial way to carry a ****ing football than just tucking it. Not once in the history of this ****ing sport. I can't believe the coaches haven't corrected that issue by now. |
I usually (emphasis on usually) don’t petition for dudes to be traded, cut, whatever. But we need to part ways in the offseason. Preferably traded but released is okay as well. He just disappears way to much and he’s way too talented to do that in an offense where he is the 4th option

Yes. Always worried about Sam...especially if he’ll be available.
I thought he had a good game today though. |
I'm worried for the next team that gives him a big contact. They're gonna be massively disappointed.
As for his play here.. meh. He's fine I guess. Keep him healthy until the playoffs and then try to get him the ball in space. |
I thought this said "married" to Watkins. No. No, I am not.

Want him cut after this season and Hardman to be our #2 guy with Pringle as the #3.
Him driving gilmore to the ground and not letting him get up made me like him a lot more though. |
LOL. Man, I dorked up my posts. Nighty night.

Only one vote for Gaz?

Hard to tell.
I will say this...Sometimes he doesn't look very motivated, but that could be totally off. He was beasting early on. |
Watkins had 4 catches for 50 yards. Over 12 yards/reception.
However, he was targeted 8 times, so 50% catch rate vs. tgts. Not so good. But most of his targets were after Mahomes hurt his hand, and some of his throws after that injury were not well-thrown, lacking velocity for sure, and accuracy at times as well. Looking at the season, it's obvious Watkins has under-performed overall. He's had one great game, a couple good games, and several games where he 'disappeared,' as described by the OP. For the $$$, that's not up to par. I stated at the beginning of the season that Sammy was going to be much better than he was last year, and that just hasn't happened. I wish that was different, but there it is. I still hold out hope that he will play significantly better (just more consistently really, as when he does catch the ball, he's been very good) in the playoffs, and help us win a SB. But unless he has a Jerry Rice-type of playoff run, I think the Chiefs have to trade him at season's end for whatever they can get for him. But something we have to keep in mind is that Sammy, or some version of Sammy, is necessary to this offense. We need a bigger (larger catch radius/tough-to-tackle/physical), that runs good routes and has top-tier speed WR opposite Hill, period. That mis-match for opposing defenses is a big part of what makes the offense as explosive as it is when everything is clicking and everyone is healthy. In other words, replacing Watkins with DRob/Hardman/Pringle is not going to work as well. Similar to how Damien Williams was never going to be a perfect replacement for K.Hunt. These two things are not the same. So if and probably when the Chiefs send Watkins on his way, we need to replace him with someone very similar to him, but preferably more consistently available, and more consistent on the field. |
He's gone at the end of the season so who really cares about Watkins anymore.
|
The look pat gives when they dont connect leads me to believe watkins sometimes doesnt run the right route......
Just a hunch. |
Veach is trading Sammy to the Bears in exchange for a year of Leonard Floyd.
|
I used to appreciate his effort, but this season it has been garbage.
He pisses me off more than impresses. Cya. |

think he knows he is gone which is why his effort levels are questionable
|
I don't. Y'all might want to though.
|
Not really.
He’ll be gone in 6 more games. C’est la vie. |
He's a great player when he's healthy. The frequency of him being completely healthy is why we were able to get him in the first place. He's made some solid contributions even if he's not a world beater week in and week out.
|
I'm not worried. I'm sure we can get a 4th rounder for him.

After a certain amount of film review, I should like to make a comment on this subject.
Watkins is often asked to perform a WR3 or 4th Option (post Kelce) role on Wally's offense. What normally happens is that Mahomes isn't provided the time necessary to go through the entirety of his reads ... all the way to the 3rd/4th option. Mahomes is not scrambling as much (partially by design, partially because he wants to improve his pocket game, and partially due to injury ... I'm guessing) which means plays are not extended as frequently as we've seen in the past. Now ... there have been numerous (and I mean, numerous) times in which Sammy has been wide the hell open in the flat or as an outlet receiver on the boundary and was never targeted. There have also been many times in which he was targeted, but the pass was ... not stellar. This has mainly because Mahomes is being absolutely harassed by the time he gets to that read. The day that Sammy went off, Wally had designed the offense around him because Tyreek was out and Wally had trust in Sammy. And Sammy delivered. The next game was Robinson's turn to get his number called. (I'm surmising on that second part there.) Anyhow, I urge you to keep this mind as you declare Sammy to be a dirtbag receiver of no account. I further urge you to take the majority of your ire and direct it to the bag-ass o-line crybabies. Those fat wimps have cost us more games this year than Sammy has ... by a long shot. FAX |
Only worried about who replaces him in 2020
