Today is the 20th anniversary of the first commercial sale of Boulevard Beer (a keg to Ponak's). I've got some Blvd Pilsner in the fridge, but I think a 6pack of Singlewide and/or Blvd Dry Stout is in my future.

Thanks for 20 years of good beer here in KC, folks!

Jilly 11-17-2009 11:25 AM

I mean, Sparks? Really?

I was in chicago 2 weeks ago and googled the "hottest new coctails" to drink while up there. Found one called the Emelio. It was listed on 2 or three sites.
Not a single freakin bartender knew what it was.

It's been a while since I've had a Red Hook. The extra special bitter looks phenomenal. Here's a cool link on the ESB, that also has reviews on pretty much everything you can think of.

Also looked and found:

1 New Belgium Sunset Wheat
1 Blue Moon HoneyMoon
2 Killian's Irish Red

Hmmm...Anyone else seeing a pattern (minus the two Killians)?

I'm anxious to try the Harvest Dance. It's one of Boulevard's Smokestack Series. It's wheat wine style ale, and it's 9.1% alcohol.

I've tried a couple of the smokestack series and they are very strong.

Sweet! May have to make a road trip.

Have you tried O'Fallon Breweries Smoked Porter? It's a bit much for me. 1 is OK but the smoke flavor gets to be a bit much after that.

I have had O'Fallon's Smoked Porter and it is the only O'Fallon beer that I enjoy. I've only had it on-tap, though, and 16 ounces of that intense flavor is quite enough for one night.

Reaper16 12-10-2009 11:23 PM

now drinking: Founders Imperial Stout. It's well-worth the $10 4-pack. Chocolate, roasted malts, toasted pecan and a delicious black currant/boysenberry fruity phenolic character.

I think that’s what I tasted at the bash this year. I was told it tasted “bacon~y” but I call bullshit. ((Although it did leave a smoky after taste.))
But then again, I could be way off base; I mean it was the bash!

Tru dat.

FYI everyone -- Boulevard's [Smokestack Series] Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale is out in stores now. It is a part of the regular Smokestack Series lineup, replacing the Saison. Tank 7 itself is a Saison, too, and a better (though entirely different) recipe.

It definitely goes well with both of those. I guess I have acquired the taste :) Just having a couple of crackers with it post fish dinner... I still drink beer but wine has become my drink of choice for sure. Not much of a hard liquor guy.

Me neither. I'm way into beer and I really enjoy wine for 1.) their abilities to be very complex while somewhat light in alcohol and 2.) their abilities to pair with food and take the meal to a new, better place.
