This is a ridiculous hire, IMO. Maybe he's trying to make Von feel better about the future.

How is this a ridiculous hire?

I think Fangio's a great coach. The only thing that's ridiculous is if Elway rolls into next season fully committed to Keenum without drafting a QB.

The only QB's Kubiak has won a Super Bowl with is Steve Young, John Elway, and Peyton Manning.

He didn't draft or develop a single one of those QB's. Unless the Broncos stumble upon another elite franchise QB who their original franchise didn't sign then this hire isn't going anywhere.

Who is going to groom a QB if they do draft one? Vic? Kubiak? Exactly.

I'm still curious about why it took this long. Either GMs were nervous about something. Or GMs were too blind to see an obvious diamond staring them right in the face for decades. Feels like a red flag to me. But we'll see.

Kubiak at OC is kinda bizarre. Retired for health issues, now back and they’ll have a Super Bowl winning head coach who is Elway’s best buddy reporting to a 60 year old rookie head coach?

I'm all for stumbling upon another great... Denver has been to 8 SBs, won 3 of them and none of those appearances were led by a QB they drafted.

Dunno. Some guys pay end up getting tagged as a "great coordinator" thanks to the sins of hires like Wade and others into the HC ranks. Owners fear repeating the mistake, so some pay the price without getting the chance.

Fangio by all accounts seems like a great guy, solid resume - is he a HC? We'll find out.

Elway and Kubiak have been on this ride together for a LOOONG time. There's no doubt Kubiak knows offense. Has the game passed him buy? Maybe.

If Fangio can get the right DC in place, do his thing with the defense and provide just the right leadership overall while Kubiak runs the offense - maybe that's a solid mix.

Kubiak damn near killed himself twice in his HC stints in HOU and Denver... maybe OC is just the right amount of crazy health-wise that he will be able to perform well and not break down.

Denver is just going to keep hiring DC's when that is not the way the league is going...smart stuff.

Elway and his boy Kubes already know offense. They don't need no meddlin'.

No HC experience at any level (as far as I know). Defensive specialist (in a league that emphasizes and encourages offense). Zero quantifiable or proven ability to develop QBs (or WRs or RBs or TEs).

He's had good defenses from time to time, to be sure ... when he had superior players. But so did Goonther ... when he had superior players.

It's a head-scratching hire at best. Unless (as I mentioned), Elway is trying to placate his defensive vets (and their moms) who have vocalized their frustration with the team's direction.

Never been HC before but at age 60 seems like a good ripe age to become one for the Donkies ROFL

Mile High Mania 01-09-2019 04:23 PM

Well, they could have hired anyone (lets be honest) that was available and there would have been a lot of negative talk around here.

One of his funnest defenses to watch was when he had patrick willis and justin smith...bad hire.
