Computer Pros: Please Help!

Alright. My computer is infested with a ****ed up virus that has bogged down my computer. It takes over my google searches and sends me to stupid advertisements that I can't back out of. It's just all around ****ed.

I'm basically trying to reset the computer to factory settings, and it's a Dell Inspiron. From what I've found online, it's incredibly non user friendly and I need to hit F8 from the start up menu when the Dell sign comes up. Problem is when I do that, my computer pretty much just starts beeping at me like defcon 4, and won't go into the advanced menu.

I'm stuck, and mostly computer reeruned. Please help. My computer hates me.

What OS?

mikeyis4dcats. 08-12-2010 05:21 PM

Step 1 go here http://www.elitekiller.com/malware.htm and read up

Step 2 download the Rogue Removal Kit http://www.elitekiller.com/files/rogueremoval.zip

Step 3 unzip the Kit, read the instruction file and run the tools in the order given.

Step 4 Thank me in about 3 hours for fixing your shit.

To boot to safe mode, hit F8 when the windows splash screen comes up.

Doesn't work, I've tried. Thanks for the advice though.

If you don't care about what's on it and have a recovery CD, you can put the CD in and try F12 when the Dell screen comes up, then select the CD as what you want to boot from... then you can simply reinstall Windows.

Or else mikey's advice.

Or bring your laptop to the bash and I'll install a better OS and you won't have to worry about this sort of thing in the future. :D

Thank you. I don't know anything about any of the actual commands. If the Rogue Killer doesn't work, that's where I'll go next.

I read that stuff, it wants you to boot safe mode w/networking...Im afraid you're going to need to rebuild.

Use MSCONFIG to force the startup menu to load on boot.

Here is a lengthy explanation how...

Tada... easy way to get to SAFE MODE.

(You can also check msconfig to see what malware might be loading and remove it... but it's FAR better to properly remove with the tools described earlier)

I definitely don't mind doing it. I just don't want to screw anything up. :D

I had a virus the other day that immediately shut down my antivirus or task manager when I tried to open them. I rebooted in safe mode and did a system restore to 4 or 5 days previous and my computer was fine afterwards.

no problem.

If the mods are reading, how about you sticky my post at the top of the forum. This gets asked on average 3 times a month, and somebody makes a new thread every time.
