DeezNutz 03-29-2010 07:21 PM

**** this. I'm not participating in this ****ing off-shoot thread.

Mecca 03-29-2010 07:22 PM

It happened last year too, either the limit for posts has to be expanded or we'll never get a full draft in 1 thread.

doomy3 03-29-2010 08:16 PM

I almost took this player in the 4th, and never expected he would still be available here. The Panthers are very thin at QB with the release of Delhomme and look to upgrade the position here. This guy is very raw, and will have a ton to learn, but he has a good amount of upside. If he can learn to run a pro style offense, then he can be a starting QB in this league. He will need to sit for at least two seasons, which should be enough time for the Matt Moore experiment to run it's course. With their sixth round pick, the Panthers select Jarrett Brown, QB, West Virginia.

Mr. Flopnuts 03-29-2010 08:27 PM

Well, there's still a guy on the board that I think can come in and contribute to a team pretty quickly. Honestly I figured he would've been drafted by now. And I'm not going to even bother with a write up because I think everyone here is familiar with him anyways.

The Seattle Seahawks select Clay Harbor FB/TE Missouri State.

DeezNutz 03-29-2010 08:29 PM

I'm shocked that everyone is shocked that their selections are still on the board.

Why not take a gamble here? Browns select Freddie Barnes Bowling Green

If Barnes works out, you've got a #2 WR in Massaquoi, and a slot guy to go along with C.J. Spiller. Could be a dynamic offense if you just add a QB and get a #1 WR.

Sfeihc 03-29-2010 09:27 PM

You guys know how I feel about Freddie. I made it a point not to draft him in this draft to see where you guys had him rated. This kid is a hit and Cleveland would do well to draft him, any team would.

Marco Polo 03-29-2010 09:33 PM

The Buffalo Bills select Phillip Dillard, LB, Nebraska.

Yea don't forget I drafted Dorin Dickerson too. They traded Quinn after I made most of these moves. I didn't really have a chance at a franchise QB in this draft anyway.

It wasn't the display that Freddie Barnes wanted to put on for scouts at BG's Pro Day.

A last minute change of plans moved the drills outside, which had a detrimental effect on Barnes' showing.

"I had to run home and get my cleats, which kind of messed with my preparation. My legs felt heavy, and my start time I was slipping on the field," Barnes said.

Not only did Barnes have to run home and get his cleats, but he also had to adjust from Astro Turf, which he had been working out on over the past two months, to field turf which is a "much different surface."

The difference in the surface was visible during Barnes' 40-yard dash, something he needed a strong showing in, as speed has been the biggest question surrounding the wide out.

"Some guys clocked me around mid-4.6, last week; I was running a lot better, so I was real disappointed with that," Barnes said.

While Barnes struggled during physical tests, he improved his showing during the position drills where he hauled in passes from quarterback Tyler Sheehan and was tested on his route running ability.

"He did well. He struggled a bit at first, but when it came time to run routes he did well and impressed the scouts," Sheehan said.

In front of scouts from 15 different NFL teams, Barnes ran fades, slants and almost every other variety of routes showing his consistent hands and playmaker ability.

"They love my hands and like me as a receiver," Barnes said. "People now just want to see me run."

With the NFL draft a little over a month away on April 22, Barnes has already gotten strong feelings from several teams, particularly Detroit, Kansas City, Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

"A lot of teams need receivers, so we'll see," Barnes said.

If Barnes is drafted on April 22, he'll already be somewhat prepared for life as a professional athlete thanks to his close friend Julian Wright.

Wright, a forward for the NBA's New Orleans Hornets, has been friends with Barnes since they were both in high school, and has been giving his friend advice during the pre-draft process.

"I've actually talked to him about it, he's a better person than he is basketball player and I have no problem asking him for advice," Barnes said. "It's pretty cool to have a best friend in the NBA."

With his success in his senior year and during this past off-season, Barnes is hoping that soon Wright will have a best friend in the NFL.

Titty Meat 03-29-2010 09:46 PM

To be honest I don't care what Barnes runs dude knows how to catch the ball and if he can do it on third downs he'll be a valuable WR.

I just thought it was an interesting article. I've said all along he could be a Bobby Engram type player.

Titty Meat 03-29-2010 09:52 PM

Yea it was a good read I'd be happy if the Chiefs got him in the fifth or sixth round.

ChiefsCountry 03-30-2010 01:00 AM

Miami Dolphins select Darryl Sharpton, LB, Miami

the Talking Can 03-30-2010 06:29 AM

and this is why I like the draft thread so much...now on draft day I can be on the look out for a bunch of 5-6th round guys who otherwise would be anonymous schmoos to me...

Freddie Barnes, your name is in my rolodex

My father-in-law passed away and we've had to travel back and forth, so my mind isn't in the game, so-to-speak and I've certainly not been able to keep up us as well as I would like to have.

This is actually a really good pick. Sometimes I got this guy confused with Ryan Matthews thats how good he is.

Sfeihc 03-30-2010 01:23 PM

He'll do well with MJD. I love these late round picks. Does billay know he's OTC?

Bears select Sergio Render Guard Va Tech

The Franchise 03-30-2010 05:48 PM

Really? Alex Smith, David Carr and Nate Davis are my QBs? It's not like I'm expecting to draft a starter here.....but **** it if I can't get a better project than Nate Davis.

The San Francisco 49ers select Jonathan Crompton, QB, University of Tennessee

Direckshun 03-30-2010 09:11 PM

SON OF A BITCH.

I SWORE I could have ended up with that guy. Crompton would be a classic McDaniels pick. Damn.

Best player on my board and some much needed passrush help: Denver selects OLB Brandon Sharpe, Texas Tech.

Dude has great measurables and a 6th rounder is definitely worth dropping on a guy who racked up 15 sacks.

Sfeihc 03-30-2010 09:22 PM

I'm taking one last dip into the very deep amount of talent at DT in this draft. This guy can keep blockers off of the young Giant linebackers and would compliment their earlier pick Larmarr Houston.

The NYG select defensive tackle Jeff Owens from UGA.

Trindon Holliday, WR, LSU

Damn. Was hoping he would be sitting there for the Panthers comp pick at the end of this round.

Titty Meat 03-31-2010 01:14 AM

Going to gamble with this pick the Browns don't have a franchise QB and I doubt this guy will be a franchise QB but if he is cool. Browns select Tim Hiller QB Western Michigan

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-31-2010 01:20 AM

The Houston Texans have a dynamic passing game, but their return units aren't great, and they lack some schematic flexibility. This player, while although a college QB, profiles exclusively as a WR/KR on the pro level.

Think Josh Cribbs. He has that kind of upside. He rushed and threw for 139 TDs in college, and led one of the biggest upsets in college football history as QB for Appalachian State.

As a potential slot receiver, KR/PR, and Wildcat QB, this guy is really good value.

The Houston Texans select Armanti Edwards, WR, Appalachian State

Random Thought:

With the Chiefs not having a 6th or 7th round pick do you think that gives them an advantage with Undrafted FA's? They could have the jump on some of these guys while other teams are finishing out their drafts.

I have only one pick left for the NYG but the prospects of adding a player like Owens this late was too much to pass up considering their poor play at this position last season.

In the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select.

Thomas Austin G/C Clemson

Gives them a versatile interior linemen at a spot where that is good value.

...

The Atlanta Falcons select

Aaron Pettrey K Ohio State

Perhaps a tad too early for a kicker but Elams done and this kid has a decent leg that should help the team seal some wins.

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-31-2010 09:19 PM

The Patriots stock up with another pass rusher in a draft that is absolutely filled with them. This guy has the potential to compete for a starting spot down the road, even if he most likely profiles as a backup.

The New England Patriots select Kevin Basped, OLB, Nevada

doomy3 03-31-2010 11:17 PM

The Bengals select Dezmon Briscoe, WR, Kansas.

This is a shot worth taking this late in the draft. He doesn't need to come in and contribute right away, and hopefully can learn the route tree. His 40 time was definitely disappointing, but good college production and a good, physical receiver.

Marco Polo 04-01-2010 09:42 AM

The Bills need depth at DE.

The Buffalo Bills select Corey Peters, DE, Kentucky.

Mecca 04-01-2010 01:10 PM

6th round, lets get another player that can contribute and make the roster...

Green Bay selects Zoltan Mesko, P, Michigan

Marco Polo 04-01-2010 01:27 PM

With Baltimore having the luxury on just drafting on depth at this point, the Ravens get a late round steal due to injury. If he were healthy, he would've gone in the first three rounds. Baltimore can stash him on IR and let him get healthy, then they can groom him to be the next great defensive specialist.

The Baltimore Ravens select O'Brien Schofield, DE/OLB, Wisconsin.

The Cardinals are up.

I don't think he slid due to injury, he slid because he's a pass rusher who's significantly smaller than Taylor Mays.

Derrick Morgan (1)
Donovan Warren (3)
A.J. Edds (4)
Zane Beadles (5)
Trindon Holliday (6)

Thoughts on this draft n00b's efforts?

A lot of solid, but unspectacular picks. No major reaches, but I think the Titans could have used one of the multiple solid DTs in this draft at 3 and perhaps waited for Warren to drop to 4.

Ok. It may seem like the Texans don't need a guy like this, but this is pure value. He's only had one season of toting the rock, and it was at a smaller school, but the dude is a flat out bad mother****er, and I guess he really impressed scouts at his pro day, which was held at Northwestern.

This guy fills the same role as Steve Slaton, but honestly, I just think he's too good of a player to pass up, even if the Texans already spent a 2nd on another RB.

I believe in loading up on LBs and RBs late, and I don't want to risk this guy falling any farther.

The Houston Texans select Deji Karim, RB, Southern Illinois

Chiefscountry is still on the clock. He took Donald Butler who was already drafted.

Word. Thanks for the feedback.

I think both of the first rounders I took will be off the board by those respective selections on draft day. And I was particularly liking Olsen in the 4th and Beadles in the 5th.

So should I go ahead or wait for the repick? I'll be on all night so either way is fine with me.

I would suggest holding off. I've PM'd Chiefscountry as well as posted it in here. Hopefully he'll be back on tonight.

I don't think Alualu is a 4-3 player, and I would have taken Suh, but I do like the other picks in your Lions draft.

The first three picks of your Giants draft are really good.
