The Sharing Economy: how much you sharing?
Today I rented a car for two days on Turo. $80.40 complete total. It's the 8th time I've done it.
I've also done AirBnB, Lime Bike, Uber, Bird Scooter. What services have you used in this new sharing economy? :hmmm: Most people are 20-40 using these services and I'm nearly 56. |

I don't have much a clue what you are even talking about.

Damn I've never tried Turo. I paid well over 100 bucks for 2 uber trips to an s from the airport. I could've had a damn car for the entire time I was there.

I've used uber and lyft regularly, vrbo in italy.

You're not claiming full credit, scho. Escorts are part of the sharing economy, too.

My views of the sharing economy:
1. Airbnb and home sharing - Nope. I figure the owners all have hidden cameras, and when I'm alone in a room by myself, things happen that no one should see. 2. Uber/Lyft and other car share stuff - Great concept when it started. Now it's basically non-certified taxis driven by third world taxi drivers in their off hours. I use them a lot, but I use them less now that they make the drivers beg for tips. 3. Scooters and bikes and stuff. I would certainly use these. I just don't have much opportunity. I have a large walking radius, and beyond that I'm generally taking a bus or I'm driving/ubering. 4. Rent someone's personal car. I've never done it. I'm not averse to it, but I like the implied homogeneity and reliability of the rental car companies. I'm not likely to try it for that reason. 5. Household stuff sharing. I saw something a while back about a site where you can share household goods back and forth. This is for things that you need once in a while but not often, like an electric screwdriver or a pony or a snowblower. It seems like it could be a good idea, but I don't remember the site and I seldom need something expensive that I don't already have. |
I'm buying hookers for 20 bucks

I've been really enamored with buying a recumbent trike recently. But a friend who's a big bike guy is talking me out of it with logic and reason. |

Use Airbnb for travel. Take Uber/Lyft Trips 3-4 times a month. Never had anyone ask for a tip.
|
There aren’t nearly enough people here to do that noise.
Closest I’ve come is drill wheat for a bunch of dudes last fall |
I’m definitely into the sharing economy. I’ve shared Hepatitis C with over 50 people!
|
I prefer AirBnB to hotels any day of the week. I've also used Uber; some places it is much more reasonable than others. I'd be interested in Turo, but I'm not sure how the insurance works out for that......

Will rent my 1988 Yugo GVX for food.
|
used VRBO once and will never do it again. I check Uber from time to time and the prices are just too high for my area. I'll just not drink and keep it simple.

Hmm? I've used Uber/Lyft a few times around here. If I'm going to some kind of event and I know I'll be tipping a few back, or to get to the local airport. Out of state on business trips, I use them all the time.
Airbnb for travel? I'm intrigued, but I haven't done it yet. I would love to hear from more people who have gone that direction and about their experiences. |

I've done the Lime Bike thing a few times, that's about it. And that was just because i was looking for a different way to get some exercise lol.
|
What’s up with the scooter sharing thing?
I’ve heard a lot of cities don’t want them. I guess there been a lot of accidents with pedestrians, cars, etc.... |

At least that's the vibe i've gotten here in San Diego. Communities such as Coronado, Del Mar and La Jolla are passing ordinances to ban them from their streets. While Central San Diego has them on damn near every corner and used regularly. |
1. I've been using Airbnb/VRBO on my house in Denver since 2015 and now pays for all of my house expenses, including mortgage. I also use those services when I travel.
2. I prefer Lyft over Uber since it's typically cheaper, drivers are nicer, and they give me the occassional 50% off rides for two weeks like what I have now (used it last night to go to the plaza in KC). 3. I used Turo once and had a good experience with it. Some owners jack up different fees so it takes more examination than originally thought. |

Anyone sharing their wives?

Even when one company moved into MPLS-the council ACTUALLY DEMANDED they remove them because they did not have a license to do business in the city. People are getting injured like crazy on the scooters. ER visits went way up after they were introduced. Small wheels hit large cracks. https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2018/...orth-the-risk/ https://minnlawyer.com/2018/06/13/pe...-their-sights/ One of the suburbs close by allowed lime bikes. Only during the summer months. It is a trial basis. I would like to know if they stop at the city border. Because if I would find that thing in my yard, it is going straight to the scrapper. |

I'm actually kind of intrigued by them, and society might be better off if everyone used them instead of cars. But there are some bugs to work out. |
I was in San Francisco shortly after the scooter craze hit. People were riding them on the sidewalks at 10+ mph weaving in and around pedestrians.
If the only way to prevent that is to prohibite scooters, I'm 100% for prohibiting scooters. |
I leave pubic hairs on every urinal I visit. It's my way of ensuring that the janitors of the world always have work.

I also forgot about Grubhub, Postmates and Task Rabbit. I've not used any of those. |
I live in the country and don't play well with others so this "sharing" crap is just that, crap. It's just another step towards socialism only instead of the government owning the scooters it's an intermediary. If you live in town go for it but don't try to push you sense of "do-gooder" on me. As a friend once said "you can borrow everything but my truck and my wife. Truck is old, wife is young and you might throw a rod in either one".

I think your analogy is way off. |
None of them. I don't like other people touching my stuff. Any of you homos try to touch my stuff, I'll kill ya.
|
Not completely, it's helping do away with private ownership of transportation in cities.

I'm probably about 3.5 hours from you. If you ever get in a bind give me a shout. Grew up on a farm but never dealt with anything that big but they all have a throttle, clutch and a hydraulic lever or 2.
