On the subject of older movies- I watched the Bicycle Thief (an Italian movie) recently. That was a good movie.

Hadn't seen this in a while. If you haven't seen it, you should.

If you liked The Bicycle Thief, you will probably like a newer movie, Wendy and Lucy.

I do want to see that. I also watched the 400 Blows recently. It was good. Not as good as The Bicycle Thief, but good.

I think those are two of the most prominent examples of two similar eras/styles of film that stressed realism -- Italian Neorealism and the French New Wave.

The Italian neorealists were pretty serious people, not entertainers, although The Bicycle Thief certainly can be seen as entertaining. I also feel it's better than 400 Blows, but 400 Blows is remarkable. Much better than Jules and Jim, imo.

I want to see more Italian neorealism. I think it's truly worthy of admiration. It really inspired a great deal, not really about what movies should look like, but what they should be saying.

LMAO Greatest, most realistic dope scene ever:

Wow.

Just.... ****ing WOW.

Amazing, magnificent, next-level movie. Moved me on a level only a handful of movies have. I've never seen a film where so much effort was put into every single shot. Great... everything.

I will immediately buy the blu-ray and kick myself in the ass for not seeing this in the theater.

On a 10 scale, this is a 20.

Glad you enjoyed it, saw it twice in theaters myself...it's a pretty awesome movie. I suggest reading the graphic novel or renting the graphic novel dvd as well. The GN is worth it, ive read it twice now.

The director's cut was extremely long, but I didn't care because I enjoyed it so much. Knowing nothing about it going in, I was just amazed.

I kept dreading that it would be some ****tarded Coen brothers ending that would make me want to kill everybody who recommended it, but thankfully that didn't happen.

She gets naked in everything...except this movie which i was shocked

Of course I'm not the best judge. I paid to see T4 and Angels/Demons and need to see Transformers before it leaves theaters.

But shit, that's what ginormous screens are for.

Wait to rent transformers, i hated it in theaters. I might enjoy it more at home honestly but not by much...too long and well stupid as hell

liked the 1st one

As I write this, knowing you, this is probably an epically stupid question, but have you seen Scorsese's documentary/commentary where he discusses keystones in Italian postwar cinema? It was like 4 or 6 hours long and aired on IFC or TCM, IIRC.
EDIT - titled Il mio viaggio in Italia

Well, the getting-bent-over-the-pool-table bit was okay.

She does it for me on every level.

Well, the other chick got naked which was nice. BTW, that love scene was very cheesy.
