John Dorsey's staff meeting at the Senior Bowl

More details about this meeting from Gretz:

Quote:

Wednesday afternoon’s practice for the South team had been over for 45-plus minutes. The players had done interviews, signed autographs and left on buses to go back to the hotel. Fans and media had cleared out, as had almost all of the NFL scouting folks.

The only remaining bodies in Ladd Peebles Stadium were a clean-up crew on the practice field and near the top of the east grandstand was a group of 20 men. They sat in the bleachers at listened intently as new Chiefs GM John Dorsey conducted what amounted to a staff meeting.

It happened after every practice held at the stadium. The workout ended, everyone dispersed save the Chiefs contingent.

Turns out it was a combination staff meeting, teaching session and debriefing on what had just happened, what was ahead and how the Chiefs were going to handle the rest of the day or week. Dorsey had been in the chair less than a week when the Chiefs arrived over the last weekend. These sessions were some of the first opportunities Dorsey had to speak to his scouts

what if the people playing in the senior bowl were actual senior citizens that would be pretty funny ha ha

I have not seen a finer football conversation in that stadium since Thomas Jefferson ate nachos there alone.

mcaj22 01-26-2013 09:43 PM

Scooters meetings were literally by himself let alone input from 20 guys.

I think Geno Smith has hurt himself badly by not being there. Not saying we won't draft him but he isn't making his own case as to why we should when others are.

milkman 01-26-2013 09:46 PM

These meetings are probably to be sure that the scouts are all on the same page as Dorsey.

His case is three years of games. A week in shorts in Mobile wasn't going to change anything one way or the other for him. He didn't miss out on anything that he won't cover in his combine interviews, pro day and team invites/private workouts.

Agreed.

And why would you compete knowing you started off the season hot and then went to luke warm to cold in the 2nd half of the season and now risking playing subpar(many things out of your control) in the SB only to further build more suspicion in the GM's and Scout's minds that you "aren't all that" as advertised:shrug:

If anything, Genos stock stayed the same and the others fell...distancing himself from the rest.

When he runs a 4.6-4.7 40 and interviews well at the combine, there should be no question who our pick will be.

Shaid 01-26-2013 10:32 PM

Top QBs commonly don't play. A chance to get hurt and fall down the board, not worth the risk. Scouts always say it hurts them but it never does.

They were underclassmen last year. Neither were eligible to play in the game. You have to be a senior to play in the Senior Bowl. Hence the name Senior Bowl.

How's this for a winner?

http://www.redskinshogheaven.com/201...-prevails.html

Juniors are not eligible to play in the Senior Bowl. Andrew Luck and Griffin 3rd are redshirt juniors and the game is not called the Junior-Senior Bowl.

Both the Senior Bowl and the Shrine Game are leaving money on the table by depriving the viewing audience of Draft-eligible undergrads like Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.

Luck and Griffin both had a year of eligibility left. While seniors academically they are considered underclassmen. Luck returned for his redshirt junior year he could have left as a redshirt sophomore. So to clear neither were senior bowl eligible, redshirting doesn't go you get in.

If they had gone back for heir final year of eligibility, they would have been 5th year seniors. Get over it. They had been at school 4 yrs each and a member of the football team 4 yrs each. They were seniors. One year of eligibility left on their football careers doesn't change that fact.
