Well ****, this isn’t the kick in the dick I needed to see as I have my morning coffee. It is good to see Clay saying the dude was having an upswing and banging a hottie. Puts life into perspective on how quickly it can be taken.

tatorhog 05-11-2020 08:02 AM

When I first joined, I think he was Flop that told me to PM Bob Dole about something or other.

He seemed like a good dude. RIP.

Guys, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I enjoyed his posts here and I was thankful for his work with SOC. I did not know him and I do not personally know a single one of you on this board. I can say that I genuinely wish I had known this man Mike. From your responses in this thread, it is quite clear that he was a good man, an honest man, and above all, he was a truly great friend to a lot of you. While I am a mostly empty voice on this board, I'd like you all to know I do appreciate how much time you spend here and the incredible community you have made for each other. I feel like a voyeur at times looking in from the outside, hearing of your get-togethers and stories, seeing the pictures from tailgates, but I enjoy it all. Though I am not close to anyone, I do feel sorrow when this place loses a voice, and with it, we lose countless stories told and untold. Thank you all for letting me participate in your community, even if I am outside the circle you all still add something to my daily life. Thank you for that.

Tonight I will drink some beer and eat some ribs in honor of a man I did not know but wish I had.

Wow, usually ib in these types of situations are cringe-worthy to watch and I can't make it more than a few seconds through it, since the guests are fumbling through their words and not making a bit of sense. Not Flop. He was a god damn baller on there and didn't have even one little **** up.

I didn't have much interaction with him, but I was in the CPFD group and I always really liked him. Of the old mods he was by far my favorite. CP lost another good one.

RIP

Dude....I can remember Mike stepping in between Buck and some drunk Chiefs fans because they were trying to start shit with Buck because he was a Chargers fan.

That weekend was epic. Then again, most of my interactions with him were as well. Didn't matter if we were at a game, out to dinner or just on the phone - Mike was larger than life and was amazing at finding the bright side and making you feel better about everything.

One night me, Mike and Clay went to dinner at Waldo Pizza because he HAD to try the Burnt End pie. Every time I'm in town and pass the place I think of his face lighting up as he ate. You'd have thought he was eating gold. Shit, that was a LONG time ago.

He was definitely over the top with his attitude and energy.

I’m just glad he got to see Mahomes and a championship before he left.

**** man. This ****ing sucks so much.

Word hath brought he who came upon Glory
That the love of his heart lay suffering
And pined for the comfort a SuperBowl may bring;
Brought upon by change his hand helped guide
Slay the beasts of past whispers and know
That today he rests with a victorious honor

Rest in Peace, Big Man.

morphius 05-11-2020 09:06 AM

Well damn. I was never sure how worried I should be with him, his FB posts went from "I'm a 1%er" to "I can't take it any more", his jumping from job to job and in and out of hospitals. I was a bit worried when I saw this thread that he might have done something drastic. Feel bad for his friends and family, praying for them all.

Did Mr. Flop have health issues? He seems terribly young to go from an MI. Far too young.

Sounds like he had a positive impact on many people's lives here IRL. Condolences for the loss of your friend everyone.

Ah, didn't see you had posted one of the same group.... I went to Seattle with Slayer the week prior to the bash, so those ~10 days or so were awesome, including bringing a 6 (er, 5) pack of Alaskan Amber back from Seattle for Flop... and capping it all off with that game and halftime/3rd quarter downpour.

Can't believe that was 10 years ago, but in the sense that it feels like a lifetime ago, given the relative frequency of CP gatherings back then. A few years later, IIRC, I met up with Flop and luv for a preseason game, and we ended up at P&L... he was larger than life, as many have said in this thread.

DaFace 05-11-2020 10:54 AM

I wonder if there has ever been a more heartfelt thread on the internet with the words "flop nuts" in the title.

I hope Mike would be proud.

Chief's Coalition just clicked with me and was welcomed right in. When it went tits up I dug out my password and logged in to CP and been every since. There was a Royals game that several people went to that same afternoon, right? I do seem to remember there was a group that left relatively early, or maybe I'm mixing up bashes.

Groves 05-11-2020 01:41 PM

I was to meet him and others at a Springfield Chiefsplanet getogether. I was looking forward to using my, "Mr. Flopnuts, I presume" line, but alas he didn't show. That's where I met MOHillbilly and Luv.

Flop is having the last laugh, as other people are getting his kidneys, but hopefully not his liver!

Yep there was. Buck, 007 and I all went to it. We realized we were just missing out on valuable tailgating time and didn't end up staying there too long.

LMAO Ah yes, the legendary Springfield get-togethers. There was that one, which I'm sure was epic, and the other one where luv and I went over to Dinny's pad for a Chiefs game.

In all seriousness I do have to say Dinny was a great host that day, he made fantastic BBQ and even went all out on a homemade key lime pie.

Sitting here at 35 years old, feeling bad, missing someone by the name of Mr. Flopnuts who i never got to even meet IRL.

What a world we live in.

Chiefspants 05-11-2020 02:04 PM

Flop was a regular contributor to my non-profit. As a mod, he would often sticky my threads asking for support or strategically “bump them” when they went off the front page (without admitting that’s what he was doing). I started this whole thing when I was 18 years old, and I was nervous to bring it up here (especially due to some of my past screwups that the mods were privy too). He had 100% faith in me from the beginning and always supported us without question.

I honestly don’t know if my non-profit gets the attention it does on here without him - and that attention mattered. Members on here have donated thousands to my non-profit and Flop was a big reason it got attention - and that money went toward constructing two schools in Nepal and Kenya.

Flop was a good one. This one cuts deep. RIP, Flop.

DaneMcCloud 05-11-2020 02:06 PM

I'm at a loss for words.

Mike was a complicated guy, just like most of us. When he first joined, we clashed pretty hard but it wasn't too long before we became good friends.

We'd email and Facebook message and we'd send each other rep notes all the time. And like others have said, the dude would give you the shirt off his back if he thought it would make you feel better. I asked a simple question about selling my timeshare in Cabo, to which I expected a brief response but instead, receive a massively detailed email with so much information that I could barely wrap my around it the first time I read it.

We had lost touch the past few years, as I have with most in this forum but he was never forgotten. It's really sad that he passed so young but I know he's happy to see on of his best friends and the guy that turned him onto Chiefsplanet in Mike Hall (Mad Max here on the forum).

Rest in peace, Brother and we'll see you on the other side...

Poker. He told me how he got the name and I'll probably screw it up, but here goes the parts I remember...

He was playing against an Asian guy and and won a hand on the final flop. The guy thought Mike was nuts for holding what cards he played. The guy ended up telling Mike that he was "Crazy Meestah Fropnuts".

Stevie came on board in 2000, me, Flop and SR in 2005 and Pest in 2006.

I'd hung out with Mike quite a bit before that weekend, I *think* it was the first time Stevie, Pest or SR had met him.

But yeah, it felt like 30 years. You'd meet someone new at one of NZoner's bashes and it was like meeting a long lost relative.

This place was awesome back then, people gave a **** about each other and built life-long friendships.
