I wonder if he'll pull one of those "10 Years After the Events in Dances" angles?

I doubt it, that was his original plan for the period covered by books 4 and 5, but he couldn't do it. Now all the good stuff is about to happen. I think he can wrap this up in 2 more books about 1,000-1,200 pages each. But he needs to be consolidating and not doing any further expansion of characters or plots.

Once Dany leaves Mereen, that side of the world will be done. I assume Arya will get back to Westeros as well. Consolidating the Westeros side of things will be easier because Dany and her dragons are gonna wreck shit and take over! Assuming Victarion/Euron doesn't steal them away with his dragon horn.

No there really isn't. There REALLY isn't. The only 2 POVs worth a darn for Sansa is the one where she talks to Littlefinger after the PW and then when she speaks to Lady Dustin I believe, and even that is kind of useless. Catelyn POVs are devoid of any important information.

Stop making him suffer geez.

Which one? Oh that one...yeah freaking one. And he would have watched the show that covers it so again she has ZERO relevant POVs. Try again.

So... do you guys like the character (in the books) of Dany? I do. I like the way she changes from an insecure, dominated child into a confident leader. Even her numerous and varied mistakes make her a more sympathetic character in my eyes.

I was reading a forum devoted to the series, and they HATE her there. The refrain is that she is simply a bystander, everything she gets is due entirely to others. What she is and what she does amount to absolutely nothing.

There's a thread devoted entirely to how the dragons hatching and attaching to her as their mother is due entirely to Mirri Maz Durr, and Dany just happened to be lucky enough to be the closest to the fire at the time. How they ignore the fact that Dany had a connection and experienced strange phenomena with the eggs before Mirri Maz Durr was even introduced to the story is beyond me.

Anyway, I wanted to know if I was alone in this. How do you feel about Dany?

I love Dany. Her indecision and wheel-spinning in book five pissed me off. But I love her. She's one of my favorite characters and Martin has handled her arch with expert skill (until book 5 when he kept her running circles).

I loved Dany at the beginning, began to wane in the middle, and find her to be an indecisive, idiotically-besotted teenAger with too much power by ADWD.

Terribilis 05-02-2013 08:15 PM

You guys think they will drop Penny from the show?

Give her a break, she's a teenager. :)

Also, I think A Storm of Swords was really well-written (obviously) but it was probably my least favorite experience of the 5 books. The crushing blows to the Stark house were almost too much to take.

I felt it coming but refused to believe it. The moment Catelyn felt that chainmail at the wedding, my heart sank a mile ****ing deep.

Reading these books when you already know the story allows you to focus in on all the small details and hints about things that GRRM is just a master at inter-weaving in these books. I've never seen an author who hints at so many things without expressly stating them. You have to pay attention to pick up on the clues, and that's part of what makes them fun to read. Or you can go to the fan sites after and see what you missed which is what I did, and boy, I missed a bunch the first time through.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more with this.

It blows my mind when frazod says he wishes he never read the books so he could enjoy the show more. The show is but a shadow of the books.

Trolling the Hobbit thread with this schtick was so funny that you decided to try it on this one?

:p
