Darnell Savage Jr., S, Maryland

Probably the most udnerrated defensive prospect that I’ve watched so far. Great range and instincts. He’s just a flat out playmaker from what I’ve seen.

looks pretty good. What round do you expect he'll go in?

htismaqe 01-31-2019 10:08 AM

I liked what I saw of Savage when they played Iowa. He was all over the field.

Buehler445 01-31-2019 11:00 AM

I'm not sure I can get over the Dantrell Savage experience Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards exposed us to.

**** Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards.

Saw some limited twitter videos of him this morning.

Man, he’s good.

Where will he likely go? Could you get him in the 2nd?

Based on where he’s ranked now, I think so. I fully expect him to “climb up boards”, and by that I mean all the draft gurus will realize they’ve been sleeping on him when they start talking to scouts and front office guys. Most have him as a late 3rd at best right now.

O.city 02-01-2019 09:54 AM

In that case I’m fully on board with a 2nd on him. He’s good

But I think they’ll sign Earl Thomas in the offseason

Now that all the escalators and incentives are accounted for the cap is only $25m before any tenders or re-signings, I'm thinking maybe they aren't signing any big free agents any more.

Yep, but speaking of Iowa I also really like Amani Hooker.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think. I hate to be too bullish on Iowa players but I love Hooker. The guy played LB and CB from the safety spot. They literally put him anywhere on the field they needed him to be and he always performed.

He could play a lot of different roles in an NFL defense and he has ideal size and speed too.

I like the idea of a versatile hybrid type player.

What round will he likely go?

Great Expectations 02-05-2019 12:34 PM

Safety still appears to be an undervalued position. With teams incorporating more and more spread concepts on offense having a versitle safety is necessary to have a good defense and I think the biggest hole we had this year. I’d also look at drafting bigger safeties and converting to LB.

And then a team will run power at you. See: Patriots vs Chargers

He's probably a 3rd or 4th-round prospect right now.

2nd in my opinion. The better he runs the higher in the 2nd it'll be.

Yep, if he runs well at the combine, he'll shoot up the boards fast. His tape is pretty darn good.

O.city 02-10-2019 10:39 PM

Chauncey Gardner Johnson from Florida in round 2

Anyone?

CoMoChief 02-10-2019 10:43 PM

I like Johnathan Abram a lot.

I’d be happy with him or Savage in the 2nd.

CoMoChief 02-15-2019 04:04 AM

Hell we need 2 safeties.

Our safeties were ****ing trash..and you can't count on Eric Berry every playing in a Chiefs uniform again, or rely on him ever being good again.

Armani Watts will essentially be a rookie again. Sorensen is trash. Lucas is JAG. Team really needs to do what it can to acquire Landon Collins.

I LOVE Johnathan Abram. Dude just ****in brings it. Not really sold on Dionte Thompson...I like Savage and Hooker and Adderley too. Mike Evans out of Kentucky is someone to think about now that House is part of Chiefs coaching staff.

ModSocks 02-15-2019 10:26 AM

My first pass watching, he looks like a fluid athlete with aggressiveness and good ball skills. Looks like he has room to add muscle too.

The Franchise 02-15-2019 10:57 AM

Give me Adderley and Savage.

I've thought it since Spags was hired.....but safety really is the only position group that needs an entire ****ing overhaul. Berry is done, Sorenson isn't worth his contract and Murray ****ing sucks. That gives you Lucas and Watts as your only safeties that are worth anything at this point.

Berry probably isn't going to be cut but you can realistically cut Sorenson and Murray for a cap savings of $4.6 million. Go draft Adderley at #29 and then grab Savage in the 5th. If you think he'll go in the 4th....then use that 5th and a late 2020 pick to move up to grab him.

Berry, Adderely, Watts, Lucas and Savage is infinitely better than what we ****ing trotted out there. And when Berry gets cut next year....you have the youth and talent behind him to not have to reach or overpay for a safety.

What you doin at CB? Chiefs have Ward, Fuller, and Smith returning aside from the scraps on the PS. Fuller is a FA in 2020 and Smith sucks ass on defense so far. Ward is up in the air but showed some solid skills. You pretty well have to add a couple in some combination.

Chief Northman 02-15-2019 08:51 PM

Interesting analysis regarding a number of the safety prospects in this draft and what their skill sets best suit them to system/deployment-wise....

If Janoris Jenkins is cut....I’d bring him in and grab one in the 2nd round.

Either that or I’d try and trade for someone like Xavier Rhodes or Trae Waynes and draft one late.

4.39 unofficial

Yea I’m taking this guy in round 2 with no hesitation

They were talking yesterday how the mindset of the coaches nowadays is to bring in corners and convert them to safeties to get better coverage skills. But of course when you find a really good safety you can't pass him up either.

ntexascardfan 03-04-2019 02:11 PM

I like him if we don't take a safety in the first. He was also one of the leaders in galvanizing the locker room with all the turmoil at Maryland before this last season...so you know he's a high character/team leader type.

Thornhill was my favorite safety not named Adderley, butI think he just combined his way out of being available for us at the end of the second.

staylor26 04-26-2019 09:23 AM

I was on this guy before the Kiper’s of the world!
