Who's making the drive for the game tomorrow?

Some buddies and I have spontaneously bought 4 tickets for section 310 due to the prices being more affordable for us college students (the weather does have its perks)... We are making the trip down from Cedar Falls, IA and I'm a little bit curious if anyone else on here is making a 4-5 hour trip to the game. If so what time ya'll departing and where from? I am nervous about the drive down due to the weather KC is and will be experiencing but this will be my 2nd trip like this as I was in attendance for the Chiefs/Steelers divisional game when there was worry about ice and road conditions. So just curious who else in braving the drive down (or up)!!

Nickhead 01-11-2019 10:20 PM

i for one won't be making the drive :cuss: :D

Bugeater 01-11-2019 10:28 PM

I've always wanted to visit Cedar Falls, they have what appears to be a pretty nice bike trail system.

If you rent an aircraft carrier, you could drive the entire way. In circles of course.

It's a great a community as long as you don't venture over to Waterloo. I don't do much biking but I fish quite a bit and have noticed plenty of bike trails around the ponds and the lake in town. Seems to be some hot trails as I always see cyclists on them.

What's wrong with Waterloo? I mean it's in Iowa...how bad can it be?

You're from Iowa, it should be a piece of cake.

Lol! I mean its probably not THAT bad but its the local stereotype that Waterloo is the more scummy/dirty of the two communities. Also their roads are terrible and don't get much care.

The Expert Driver title comes standard issue with the drivers license!

Edit: I was always curious if the KC area and surrounding areas overreact with snow storms due to the fact they probably don't accumulate much snow compared to up here. Reading some of the KC area reports or warnings make it sound pretty serious.

ptlyon 01-11-2019 10:53 PM

Be safe man

Hammock Parties 01-11-2019 10:55 PM

A warning: the roads are very very nasty right now. I'm sure they will be better by morning but I'm guessing there will be some degree of freezing overnight.

Be careful.

Absolutely nothing. It’s just what UNI students who have never gone to Waterloo say.

That's funny. And I'm from Iowa and never been to waterloo. And never want to honestly.

Thanks for the heads up, Clay! Yeah we will make sure to proceed with caution in the morning and make it down safe.

hometeam 01-11-2019 11:00 PM

gonna drive 2 hours but not going to take my normal route since it goes up a twisty county highway, going to go farther down 50 and come north closer to KC

TribalElder 01-11-2019 11:01 PM

based on the amount of snow coming down right now I bet a few people will be making a 4-5 hour drive in tomorrow

Jewish Rabbi 01-11-2019 11:01 PM

Also, Simplicity, do be careful. Not sure how far north the storm is going but some of my worst drives have been during the winter on Highway 20.

They do have Chic-fil-a which is definitely worth the drive over!

It’s nothing special, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not this super dangerous shithole like Cedar Falls residents make it out to be.

IAM4KC2 01-11-2019 11:04 PM

I’m leaving Wichita at 5:30 in the morning.

Not really. The whole drive is flat which gets a lot of snow blowing across the roads and creates the slick spots.

I'm shocked that people know that Correctionville exists. 007 and I stopped there on our Iowa barnstorming tour this summer.

After consulting a map I see it is pretty close to Sioux City. We got there via LeMars and Cherokee so it seemed like a long way away.

Not so much looking at barns but I'm sure we saw a few. Mostly hitting up bike trails and chasing down Freedom Rocks, and whatever we found in between.

Got ya. Had a barn story if that was your thing.

Le Mars, did you hit up Bob's for hot dogs?

Not sure what a freedom rock is, but if it is in memoriam, check out brunsville sometime. On memorial day if possible.

Edit - didn't really need to see your crotch

Hey my junk stayed put! You live in Iowa and you don't know what a Freedom Rock is? Nearly every county has one somewhere.

Bugeater 01-11-2019 11:57 PM

Oh, and we had ice cream at the Blue Bunny museum in LeMars. Didn't have lunch until we got to Cherokee.

I'm bored so regale me with your barn story.

ptlyon 01-12-2019 12:07 AM

OK, yes I do know what they are. Yes, that's cool and cool you guys did it! :thumb:

Not really much of a story, but a gal we knew in Wynot, NE made a calendar of pictures of barns around the northeast Nebraska area. Extremely cool. Pictures were outstanding. Unfortunately she passed away like a year later. She was young too.

If you ever make it up this way again, drop a line!

Simply Red 01-12-2019 12:11 AM

We drove through NE Nebraska after we left Yankton and I was blown away with how nice that area was so I imagine she had some impressive pictures. We're planning on moving to Wyoming sometime this year but I do still want to get up that way before I leave. I'll definitely holler if I do.

Damn. :( Hopefully to retire! Hell, we've been somewhat close to getting together before, maybe we can do it before you go.

Northeast Nebraska is a beautiful area. About as hometown as hometown you can get. Made some GREAT friends over there through the years.

I toured the Deere factory in Waterloo. That’s not something you find just anywhere.

I’m sure it got a bad rap when Deere employed thousands of industrial type jobs. Now it’s all robots, software dorks and engineers.

No, it gets its reputation from the disproportionate (for Iowa at least) amount of black people who live there.

I know enough about farming to know what that means. :D Our farmer plays both sides of the fence and works it pretty well.

My grandfather owned one of the most successful John Deere dealerships in the state of KS and I manage a Case/New Holland factory. He’d roll over in his grave if he knew that.

They take it pretty darn serious and I bet you are right about your grandpa.

My Dad's first love was farming even though he made his living differently.

The farmer that leases our ground takes advantage of it, pretty smart. All the dealers bust their butts to get his business, no matter the color because they know he is not tied to one color.

Thought I’d check in! Just made it back to my bed here in Cedar Falls safely (and soundly if you care). I-35 was for the most part manageable on the way down and only really encountered troubles just getting into MO.... It was gross. Got stuck in traffic in KC due to a stuck semi but made it to our seats just in time for the introductions and man it was good to be there tonight! By far the most fun I’ve had at Arrowhead to date and it was a blast to share these memories with my friends and the rest of ya’ll that were packed in that stadium tonight! Most of you will be glad to hear we did not partake in any snowball throwing but we did however have a few good laughs of people getting domed on the Colts sideline and immediately turn around and point up like they thought they could pick out the individual who threw it.
