Anyone have an adult tonsillectomy?

Had one this past Monday (3/11) and I gotta say it’s more difficult than I thought it would be. At times the pain has been unbearable, even with Oxy and Tylenol. Combined with lack of sleep and mostly liquid diet and it’s been rough. If you’re thinking about having it done maybe think twice!

I had one as a kid. Just remember getting a lot of ice cream. I've heard it's rough as an adult. Hang in there!

Nearly did a year ago. Avoided it though.

I am 67 and still have mine. My doctors all favored keeping mine since I had a splenectomy at 14 or 15. I guess it replacement for some of the things the spleen does. I have had some tonsillitis and strep throat issues but never reached so many events in a certain time. Every Doc said it's a son of a bitch at an older age also.

I was on course to need one, but last ditch alternative has been working for the last year.

An agronomist I work with just did. He said similar things.

I would get strep throat every 6 months. Right on cue. Had mine removed at age 19. It sucked and I still remember that pain. Almost 30 years later I’ve been strep free. I don’t regret it one bit.

Should have just tied them to the back of your BMW and floored it and would have saved money on the surgery

My oldest did it a 6 or 7 without pain killers after.

Good luck

Pain-wise that probably would’ve been better!

My brother did. He said it was easily the worst thing he's ever had to deal with. It also required two subsequent trips to the ER to fix bleeding afterwards the surgery.

That’s exactly what worries me. Hoping I’m roughly halfway through the worst of it. I assume your brother is glad he had it done though?

This.

I had what they call kissing tonsils (trust me, it's not sexual unless pain is your kink) every couple of months when I was in college. Yes, recovery was a rough week, but every time I get any kind of sore throat today, I'm thankful that it feels so minor.

Did at 20.

Nurse said I was the fastest patient out of recovery she’d seen.
