Chiefs Misery Has Met Its Match: Patrick Mahomes

For my 10,000th post I wanted to do more than bitch at Patriot trolls so I thought I'd share this write up. It is a great read to prep for this Sunday. A lot of articles have been written about what Mahomes means to this city and this fanbase. This is another one. Enjoy.

Chiefs Misery Has Met Its Match: Patrick Mahomes

Spoiler!

P.S. It seems impossible this isn't "Q" but I've been pouring over this whole site constantly for weeks and didn't see it so I'm sure there are many others who didn't as well.

Started reading that and after a couple paragraphs started scrolling and scrolling and holy shit I'm still scrolling. Gonna have to finish that book later

Figured as much, but couldn't find a thread for it. If I missed it in the Mahomes thread, it deserved its own.

I missed it before, thanks for posting.

I think it's funny that Fisher said "we have a new guy under center"

I still remember him getting all pissed at Herm on Hard Knocks when Herm wanted to run with Croyle instead of Huard. I mean, they were both wrong in hindsight, but Carl showed he hated young QBs.

I’m not gonna lie, that piece made me a little teary eyed.

Stupid garlic.

Can someone bold the good stuff. I need to get to bed before 11

It's all good stuff. Lots of quotes from Chiefs past and present.

big nasty kcnut 01-17-2019 06:24 PM

Damn it carl!

To each their own. I would read War and Peace right now if I thought there was a decent chance they mentioned Patrick Mahomes somewhere in there.

Yep. It deserved it's own thread.

FloridaMan88 01-17-2019 06:41 PM

Carl taking some shots at Fat Scott in the article is interesting.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-17-2019 06:50 PM

I'm not reading a long ass article until I see that someone has fapped to it.

Kiimo 01-17-2019 06:50 PM

That made me feel sorry for Eric Fisher and also made me hate Carl Peterson more than I already did.

I loved Marty and Carl. But now we know how backwards their entire philosophy was.

MahomesMagic 01-17-2019 06:50 PM

Six seasons later, with Reid still in charge and the Chiefs positioned for another playoff run, Vermeil sent Reid a text message. He knew that if the Chiefs topped the Colts in the divisional round, they would, finally, mercifully, host the AFC championship for the first instance in their proud and tortured history. The message he sent read: Andy, this is your year. It’s time. Your time.

Well, not to begin with. I'd say that a lot of things changed while they were here and they were slow to adapt. It was time for them both to go when they left.

I liked and respected Marty. Carl, not so much.

No doubt, Fisher is far from a bust and has played great this year. This is an awesome read.

"My philosophy was, you’re really rolling the dice with your No. 1, taking a quarterback."

-Carl Peterson

Frosty 01-17-2019 07:09 PM

By the way, some of you might need Hooked on Phonics or something. The article took like 5 minutes to read. LMAO

wazu 01-17-2019 08:13 PM

Carl's quote needs to be inscribed on his tombstone.

otherstar 01-17-2019 08:49 PM

Great read!

Sadly ideas spread like a virus and a lot of fans spent decades in agreement with that.

It seems a lot of pundits use phrases/verbal descriptions that come from here.

Honestly Bob Dole is the only person that I have heard use disigerent recently.

I did a duck duck go search on the term and came up with this:

https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...age=5&t=114749 (9th result lol)

Cornstock 01-17-2019 10:49 PM

My biggest takeaway was that Carl never recognized the primacy of a franchise quarterback/ thought addressing other team needs were more important and a journeyman could fill in.

It has been born out that a franchise quarterback is central to success. We have the luxury of viewing the league through a modern lense where it is obvious that is central today. Add in the rule changes favoring offense and it is even more apparent.

Scouting in Carl's era was probably not as thorough. But damn, having been GM for so long you would have thought he would have recognized that fact. I'd love to see a breakdown of the quarterbacks he passed on during his tenure. Also, I'd love to dive into the situations around their success. There are a guys who could've come into the wrong coaching situation and never thrived, but there are undoubtedly guys who could have made us great.

I needed to read this again.

It was a Rain Man invention. It was even the name of one of my bands.
