This might be the worst defense I’ve ever seen

Ever.

ThaVirus 10-14-2018 09:28 PM

Then you don't watch much football.

This isn't even the worst defense in the league this season.

Great Expectations 10-14-2018 09:29 PM

The Chiefs are the OU Sooners of the NFL.

bobbything 10-14-2018 09:29 PM

My bad. Slightly better that 03. They got a turnover on downs.

Mecca 10-14-2018 09:31 PM

That was really bad, watching them play is so frustrating.

OKchiefs 10-14-2018 09:32 PM

I wonder how our overpaid cheerleader felt sitting on the c sideline knowing we probably win this game with him on the field.

Hammock Parties 10-14-2018 09:32 PM

Without Houston it certainly is.

St. Patty's Fire 10-14-2018 09:32 PM

They can’t or won’t tackle

Watch around the league, you won’t see nearly as many missed tackles or blown coverages or CBs literally falling over turf as frequently as when this shit stain hits the field

If the defense was even mediocre we win this game

Pasta Little Brioni 10-14-2018 09:33 PM

Eh, there is no defense anymore. Pathetic, but the league is a joke now.

KCUnited 10-14-2018 09:33 PM

Is Reggie Ragland running in the hampster wheel that powers the server?

Coach 10-14-2018 09:33 PM

This is by far, an embarrassing defense in the NFL today. Reggie Ragland was pimping on that we were going to stop the run. And then he goes on that "Be Grown" comment.

Mother****er couldn't even shed a block to save his life. Hitchens couldn't even take correct angles to stop the run.

smithandrew051 10-14-2018 09:35 PM

I’m not absolving the offense for tonight.

We know the defense sucks, which means the offense needs to execute when they have the opportunity. We know the defense won’t pick up the offense against good teams.

The offense put us in a hole by only scoring 9 points in the first half, giving the ball away twice in the first half, and missing multiple open receivers for TDs in the first half.

Yes, the defense is atrocious. Yes, the offense was great in the second half.

You simply can’t play from behind in New England and expect to win.

Prison Bitch 10-14-2018 09:36 PM

Houston and Berry will cash their checks this week

Let that sink in

Mecca 10-14-2018 09:36 PM

Brett Veach...yea it's totally a fixed run D, uh huh.

Sorry Brett right now you have assembled a piss poor defense.

jjchieffan 10-14-2018 09:36 PM

I agree. Of course it might have been better had we had Houston, KPass, Berry and Sorenson out there. Maybe not great, but maybe the punter would have came out once tonight. One punt and we win.

I'll give Houston a pass. He isn't worth the money but he still gets out there and battles when he can.

Berry can piss off

They scored 40 ****ing points, that's higher than the season average, if you think they need to be perfect and be 40+ that is a serious ****ing problem.

That is like being missing your entire front axel and then bitching about your gas mileage.

carcosa 10-14-2018 09:38 PM

It is a bad defense

Deberg_1990 10-14-2018 09:38 PM

Beeeland Speaks. Blame him or the NFL?

Frazod 10-14-2018 09:39 PM

Maybe we could persuade Haley to hire 11 guys off the street to play defense.

Couldn't be any worse.

Mecca 10-14-2018 09:40 PM

Seriously if after this year they don't cut and replace a bunch of those players then Brett Veach is a complete moron.

I'm not even that mad at him. There was a defensive hold on the play anyway. Even if he sacks him it's first and goal from the 3. Sure it's better than the TD but odds are they are getting in anyway. Collinsworth was just trying to make a big narrative out of that play.

I would agree if I were saying that they needed to do something that they weren’t capable of.

Fact is, Mahomes had 2 bad turnovers and missed multiple open receivers for TDs early.

Additionally, when we play from behind other teams can commit to running the ball. If we play with a lead, that isn’t the case. They have to throw the ball down the field which is more likely to lead to sacks and turnovers.

40 points and you lose.....that is unacceptable in any situation at all. There is no excuse for any defense when your offense puts up 40 points and you lose.

Three7s 10-14-2018 09:49 PM

I didn't think I'd ever see a Chiefs defense worse than 2008, but this defense is giving them a run for their money.

I’m not saying the defense isn’t mostly to blame. I’m saying the offense still has some fault in this one.

For instance, throwing a pick at the end of the first half instead of getting at least a field goal. In games like this, you can’t leave points on the field.

Yeah I don't know. That was literally one good game. The 2003 defense actually had a few good games early in the season before Maslowski got hurt. In 5 of their first 8 games they allowed 14 points or less. They were never any match for the elite QBs but they'd at least force a few turnovers and have a decent game against a bad offense.

FloridaMan88 10-14-2018 10:00 PM

The return of Houston/Berry and maybe Veach being able to trade for a CB or safety is the only hope for the D at this point.

Demonpenz 10-14-2018 10:00 PM

evidently you didn't DVR "The Making of a Murderer"

Mecca 10-14-2018 10:00 PM

They don't get turnovers, they give up big plays, they get sacks occasionally can't defend the pass or the run.

So what exactly can they do? If they give up a first on a penalty it's basically a scoring drive automatically.

That team had absolutely no pass rush. This team has one.

Still a bad defense, don't get me wrong, but when you're the top third down defense in football that counts for something.

I hear what you’re saying, but saying that Mahomes can’t throw that pick to end the first half or saying Mahomes can’t miss wide open receivers isn’t asking for perfection. He needs to make those plays. I’m sure he would tell you the same.

Those aren’t super human plays. Those are fairly basic for the upper level QBs in the league. It comes with the territory as being one of the best in the game, which I believe he is already. He gets the glory and a (small) portion of the blame sometimes.

ChiefsCountry 10-14-2018 10:09 PM

Don't play any really good QBs for the next 4 weeks. Going to see some more of the Bortles type games coming up. 3 of the 4 at Arrowhead as well.

Yeah he made a few mistakes early but to your second point, we've had big leads early and the defense still shit the bed and nearly cost us the games. Chargers, Steelers, 49ers, Jaguars. The defense wasn't half bad early on in the game. Matter of fact, the defense has been its best early in games. Just at some point the wheels fall off and they can't do shit.

All of the legitimate problems you mentioned are tolerable if the tackling were up to nfl standards. It has been better the past two weeks, but still too bad to win a game like tonight's.
