that's not offensive.
"We Ruv You Rongtime" would be offensive.

I'm always stunned at how things like this get approved and moved through the process at big companies.

I guess no one responded to the email asking everyone in the marketing department "Do you think this is a good or bad idea?"

Sometimes I think big companies get this sort of thing because they assign some junior person to some marketing element with minimal supervision, and forget to check up on things.

Someone who does market research or focus groups could use this as a great example of what can go wrong when an advertiser doesn't understand the market.

(Nodding thoughtfully.)

Yes, because obvious humor being milked from a great movie line is exactly the same as intending racism.

Nobody is responding from the "Get a ****ing sense of humor" department, either, apparently.

You don't think that the Asian community as a whole might get tired of and/or offended at the "we love you long time" stereotype?

Or that perhaps the Chinese community could be pissed that they're being lumped in with the Vietnamese hookers and see this as a "Vietnamese, Chinese? They all look the same" kind of statement?

I think every community has a percentage of people who are born with a stick up their ass. I'm just not one who really gives a **** how those assholes feel about anything. I'm not going to cry over a "white man can't jump" billboard, either.

This still isn't anywhere near as funny (or offensive) as the news gal in SF reading out the fake names of the pilots on that plane that crashed.

Now that you mention it, it is indeed a great tourist draw. But this isn't a tourism billboard.

The guy in marketing that came up with this should get a raise. Instead of getting a little local advertising, the station is now getting national attention. Freaking Genius..........
