That $$ amount is... not bad? I think? I don't actually know.

Tell me how to feel about this, CP!

RunKC will be thrilled.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-09-2025 12:29 PM

Even if you’re mad about the money, and I’m not, it’s a 2-year deal with a third year team option. That’s not much.

Sassy Squatch 03-09-2025 12:31 PM

That's fine.

Pablo 03-09-2025 12:33 PM

I know he's had a checkered past but he turned into a fine young man and player when he got to KC

smithandrew051 03-09-2025 12:34 PM

Helps with LB not being a pressing need. Doesn’t sound terrible.

You can still draft a LB if he’s BPA.

I’m good with it.

DCTwister 03-09-2025 12:34 PM

To the ship?

staylor26 03-09-2025 12:35 PM

Cool another domino.

I fully expect Reid and Omenihu to walk and the Chiefs the sign either Cam Robinson or Dan Moore Jr based on the first 3 dominos.

pugsnotdrugs19 03-09-2025 12:35 PM

Losing both he and Reid as the brains of the defense in one offseason would have been a huge challenge. I’m glad that’s not happening.

Mecca 03-09-2025 12:36 PM

Well that's good news, Omenihu and Wharton are gonna be gone just a matter of if Reid comes back or not.

And Reid has an obvious replacement waiting. Can’t say that for Bolton.

TheGuardian 03-09-2025 12:36 PM

I said he wasn't going anywhere. He's literally Spags most favorite player ever in his whole career.

Mecca 03-09-2025 12:37 PM

This is also a solid compromise contract, he didn't break the bank and probably gets a better offer on the open market..but this lets him be a FA again when he's 27.

Hammock Parties 03-09-2025 12:37 PM

As much as I don’t like it I keep coming back to it being cam Robinson. I think like Taylor the offensive familiarity will weigh in. Like many I don’t think k he’s that good but I bet the staff feels they can work with it. We want the best LT we’ve had since Roaf but likely get the best one we’ve had since OBJr.

Yea, he's probably about the same level of LT as OBJ overall, but he's a better fit for the Chiefs as well IMO.

I assume the Chiefs draft his replacement either this year or next, so they get a year or two to learn.

Sorta like how they drafted Bolton a year early.

Im worried about New England bidding against us. They have so much cap and a huge hole at LT.

I feel like its DJ next year.

Hollywood and Bolton nicely done.

He has 'em by the shorthairs. Or at least he thinks he does. And he's right UNLESS they're willing to trade him.

And they should absolutely be willing to consider it.

Once that tag pegged his floor at $23 million, his leverage in a LTC improved a lot. And when we traded Thuney it went up still further.

It just blows my damn mind that we didn't get this done last offseason if we decided we were going to keep him and Creed. And nothing they saw in 2024 should've changed that calculus at all.

It was just a mistake, IMO.

But past $18 million Id have to think about it a bit.

Hopefully that means only one more week of people trying to say that Tranquill can replace him then we'll put that particularly stupid argument to bed.

Tranquill didn't adequately replace Gay last season, IMO. He damn sure can't replace Bolton. Lots of athletic 'backers in the draft this season - hopefully we can manage to relieve Tranquill in 2026 with one of 'em.

Mecca 03-09-2025 12:55 PM

We could bring Willie Gay back for like 5 dollars.

Dante84 03-09-2025 12:56 PM

NE and WAS will be competing with us for LT. I think it will be pricey.

Wharton, Omenihu and Reid are gone, unless we ignore LT again and decide to go all in with a trade up.

I doubt Veach goes that route though.

Yeah, fans were unreasonably “bitching” about the fact the Chiefs were forced to play a career guard at LT last season since all three of the actual LT’s on their roster were unplayable.

They've bitched about every single LT since Brandon Albert. The only year they didn't since then was 1 year of Eric Fisher and that had more to do with Patrick Mahomes than it did Fisher's play.

Well, I thought he was a bad idea before he even got here, and am record as saying so. I just thought he was a poor fit. He's not a typical Andy Reid OT, had slow feet, and was generally unathletic.

I think all of that is true.

I think Fisher was a good, but not great LT. Certainly the best we've had since Roaf, but nowhere near Big Willie. d

Smith was a downgrade, but still workable. I understand he's fully healthy now and wants to play. If so, I could stomach he and Humphries competing with Kingsley in TC.

I'd rather not tie up a ton of money in a less than average player like a Cam Robinson, but if Veach and Reid feel that's the best plan, I won't complain. I kind of doubt it, but I've rarely guessed right on what Veach is going to do in advance.

RunKC 03-09-2025 01:35 PM

The Broncos were almost certainly gonna get him if we let him walk.

He was always going to get paid 12-15 average per year by someone. The Chiefs paid the top end of reasonable range because he means so much to this defense. Bolton elevates everyone’s play on the defense with his on-field coaching and implementation of a very complicated scheme. Worth it.

Boxer_Chief 03-09-2025 01:42 PM

As a Mizzou fan he’s easily my second favorite player so I personally am stoked on this. Dude is a stud

Gravedigger 03-09-2025 02:03 PM

For the money keeping the quarterback of your defense who knows Spags system and who Spags adores it sounds good. You take the good with the bad with Bolton, but he’s better more times than not and a good investment, when he’s thumpin he’s ****ing thumpin!

YontsRBake 03-09-2025 02:39 PM

In Veach we trust but I am struggling to understand why $19M per year to Sneed off a season where he was a top 5 CB wasn’t worth it but $15M to Bolton is.

I realize Sneed was bad last year but don’t think the result would have been the same if he stayed and he’s far better than what we tried to plug at CB2

Bolton being resigned is more about what he does for the other 10 guys than even his own self, beyond the Sneed knee stuff too.

People who don’t get this move — just always remember the intangible stuff. He’s another coach out there. That’s why he sticks.

Sneed was also one of those guys though. Drue was pretty good when he took over that role temporarily in 2023 and id have more faith in him taking over at Mike than I do Watson and Williams at CB.

This was a smart move.

O.city 03-09-2025 03:08 PM

Sneeds knee was/is cooked it would appear.

ChiliConCarnage 03-09-2025 03:08 PM

He's a good player and it's not a huge deal. Ill trust Spags and the team that this makes sense. I didn't realize he was still 24!

RINGLEADER 03-09-2025 03:14 PM

It’s a two year deal at approximately $10M/year cap hit in those two years with a third year option at a cap hit of $25M. You pay him or extend again if he balls out before we get to that number and if it doesn’t work out you bite the bullet and spread the hit over two years. I’m fine with the money/structure.

The real argument is could you keep Reid/Wharton and/or bring in vets like Willie Gay and Charvarious Ward and is that a better use of the same dollars?

Red Dawg 03-09-2025 03:15 PM
