Kirk Cousins is now a Falcon.

You like that?

Cousins and the Falcons agreed to a four-year deal, according to reports, though the contract can't officially be signed until Wednesday. It's a massive deal for a quarterback who has done well to max out his earnings. The deal will be for $180 million, includes a $50 million signing bonus and includes a total of $100 million guaranteed, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero.

Minnesota does not have a QB.

I just can't believe that anyone would give Kirk Cousins $45 million/yr after tearing his ACL at age 36.

FloridaMan88 03-11-2024 03:28 PM

He probably makes Atlanta the favorite in the worst division in football.

But Cousins isn't suddenly going to become a clutch playoff performer when he gets them to the playoffs.

ultron1969 03-11-2024 03:47 PM

After seeing the QB documentary and observing his wife (who is from Georgia) when I heard Atlanta was interested I had a feeling the Vikings would be without him soon.

Worse than ACL. Achilles.

Bump 03-11-2024 03:50 PM

Mid QB's getting some nice contracts this offseason

Otter 03-11-2024 04:01 PM

Wow, he and Matt Cassel should be toasting to fleecing the NFL for every penny.

How do you not go with a rookie?

Those haven't been working out too well for them I guess.

At least a rookie would inject some hope and anticipation. But I've seen this movie already so I guess it's unfair for me to spoil the ending.

Go Steve Bono
Elvis Grbac
Matt Cassell
I mean Tyler Palko

So far FA is just a rearranging of the deck chairs on the titanic, and the Mahomes iceberg is still out there.

Ack, good catch. Welp, at least both started with the letters 'AC,' lol.

It’s moments like this I thank the lord I am a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the reigning back to back world champions of the professional sport we are currently discussing.

Pinchshot 03-11-2024 06:06 PM

No one has played the FA like Kirk.

Rainbarrel 03-11-2024 06:12 PM

Cousins in the south, have a lot of uses

Eh, at least with Cousins you know exactly what you're getting. He's better than JAG. A legit top-12 NFL QB. With a rook, you have no idea how that'll pan out. ATL has been rolling 7-10 three seasons in a row now with below-average QB play. Kirk should be efficient enough to get them another 2 or 3 Ws, which should get them into the playoffs. Something they haven't been able to do for, what is it, 5-6 seasons now?

And they have a nice pile of good young talent at WR and RB, along with a decent defense. They need to become a playoff team again asap, before they waste all those cheap contracts. Cousins is good enough to get them there, if he's 100% recovered from his Achilles injury.

Though $45 million/yr AAV just seems nuts to me. Basically, they're saying that he's better than Stafford.

He kept getting franchise tagged and making far more than he warranted. I don't know if he was really lucky or really smart. That's silly money for a guy like him.

This looks like the classic case of having incriminating pictures of somebody. :hmmm:

He's made enough money now if he wanted a ring he should have signed with us as a backup for $1.

scho63 03-11-2024 08:34 PM

That's crazy money.

He has made more in his career than probably the first 100 Hall of Fame QBs COMBINED.

Jewish Rabbi 03-11-2024 08:37 PM

Now here’s a guy who can afford $100 lunches

jerryaldini 03-11-2024 10:35 PM

I heard a talking head on ESPN actually say he believes the Falcons could get to the SB with Cousins. How sweet would that be for us.

Why Not? 03-12-2024 01:27 AM

It’s a match made in Heaven. The franchise most famous for shitting themselves in huge games, bring in the QB who can’t ever win big games. What could possibly go wrong?

big nasty kcnut 03-12-2024 01:44 AM

Both I think.

Dude has put on a master class of betting on yourself and managing co tract negotiations.

Washington Franchised him when there probably wasn’t a ton of interest in him. Played well. Bet on himself that stuff. Then Washington did it again played well got some interest. Washington knew they were ****ed, cousins told them to lick his ass. Took less overall money for fully guaranteed money when the Vikes weren’t very good and could easily put the blame on him and shitcan him. Now he’s built up enough of a reputation to get a big contract.

Masterclass.

displacedinMN 03-12-2024 05:53 AM

and the Vikes have signed Sam Darnold.

Time to pick up JJ.

In fairness about 10 years ago we would probably do the same thing. Hopefully we learned our lesson.

Don't soil Cousins name like that. He's way better than Cassel. He's more like Alex Smith.

scho63 03-12-2024 07:26 AM

For perspective.......

Joe Namath became the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL with the 1975 contract he signed with the New York Jets. Under this contract, he would get paid $900,000 over two years, with a salary amount of $425,000 per year, according to The New York Times.

Cousins will throw for thirty five touchdowns a year and 4500 yards (with six picks). He's Drew Bree's-lite. GTFO with the Alex Smith nonsense. Cousins name gets sullied because he likes to pad his stats and had made questionable decisions late in playoff games and has earned half a billion dollars in guaranteed cash. But he's won playoff games against Drew Bree's and had big games in the playoffs too. He's not Lamar Jackson. He's got a 93 rating and threw for five touchdowns and one interception in the playoffs.

Um, not to burst your bubble, because you're on a roll, kind of like when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, but you should google Cousins' playoff record.
