Russell Wilson to sign with the Steelers

Russell Wilson visited with Steelers officials in Pittsburgh for over six hours Friday. Monticore 03-10-2024 09:43 PM

Hope Pickett beats him out as the starter.

Mile High Mania 03-10-2024 09:43 PM

Not surprising…

jerryaldini 03-10-2024 09:44 PM

Good. Make that division even more competitive.

lewdog 03-10-2024 09:44 PM

Pickett is absolute trash so Wilson found a spot where he will be the starter.

Rain Man 03-10-2024 09:44 PM

Is there some sort of rule now that quarterbacks can't play for the NFC?

kysirsoze 03-10-2024 09:45 PM

One year deal! Hell yeah, Russ! Bet on yourself!

FloridaMan88 03-10-2024 09:48 PM

Denver going to pay for Russell Wilson to make the playoffs with Pittsburgh.

Eureka 03-10-2024 09:49 PM

They will compete with a QB such as Russ at that price.

Not sure how well understood this is, but as long Russ has a job in the NFL, Denver has to pay out his full salary. So Russ is actually motivated to sign for absolute league minimum, as he make $30M or whatever and the vast majority of that is paid for by the Broncos.

Does that relate to length of contract?

Ya it’s awesome and I think Pitt plays the broncos in the opener I think

big nasty kcnut 03-10-2024 09:56 PM

Steelers nation we're ****ed.

BWillie 03-10-2024 09:57 PM

Sort of because it only is in effect I believe this year.

RealSNR 03-10-2024 09:59 PM

The fanbase that thinks waving yellow hankies makes them tough deserves an equally self-aware QB.

Buehler445 03-10-2024 10:01 PM

Was hoping for the NFC.

Watching Pickett play like he is actively sabotaging the team was surprisingly entertaining.

tk13 03-10-2024 10:01 PM

I'll give him this, if he's playing at a decent level George Pickens is pretty much the perfect WR for him. A guy who's game is running a bunch of vertical routes and winning jump balls.

smithandrew051 03-10-2024 10:03 PM

Rooting for him to have a bounce back year to make the Donks look worse

Hammock Parties 03-10-2024 10:04 PM

sounds super gay

Spott 03-10-2024 10:05 PM

The Steelers will probably get the Donks in week one.

Hammock Parties 03-10-2024 10:06 PM

i think we're going to get zero ****s given russell wilson and the steelers will be the laughingstock of the AFC again

Broncos owe him $39m minus whatever PIT pays him, and that applies only to this year. Sounds like you are suggesting they will pay him the full amount of the extension they signed.

Same. Would be really funny if end of year people are singing praises of Russell Wilson.

Pepe Silvia 03-10-2024 10:08 PM

He's gay like Kordell Stewart, it's perfect.

Dunerdr 03-10-2024 10:09 PM

How long until Pickens loses his shit on this ****ing weirdo?

backinblack 03-10-2024 10:11 PM

At least Pittsburgh is smart and only giving him a one year deal

The value is there.

Wilson is easily a $3 mil a year QB...

RedRaider56 03-11-2024 07:34 AM

If you're the Steelers why not take a shot at such a bargain basement price. Can he be any worse than Pickett?

LoneWolf 03-11-2024 07:35 AM

Steelers Country! Let's Smelt!!

Eureka 03-11-2024 07:50 AM

Will Wilson be determined to bounce back after flaming away in Denver?

Seems like a win for the Steelers. Wilson > Pickett

Winning the Super Bowl the year after Katrina will get you major brownie points for lifting the hopes of destroyed city.

But yeah, Bountygate was involved and Payton has honestly revealed himself to be a giant POS who was a total failure after that 1 SB win.

LagunaSWana 03-11-2024 08:47 AM

Let's SMELT!

DaFace 03-11-2024 08:52 AM

I was afraid of that. As I said in the other thread, I'm not scared of him necessarily, but Tomlin certainly has the ability to make him serviceable, and they could be a contender with their defense. At least it's just a one-year deal.

Graystoke 03-11-2024 08:58 AM

I think it was a good move by the Steelers. I mean why not, he is definitely worth the pennies they are going to pay. Writing on the wall for Pickett.
We play the Steelers at their place 2024. This will be fun.

Wisconsin_Chief 03-11-2024 08:59 AM

This is a total outlier of a situation in the NFL. A team like the Steelers landing a QB like Russell Wilson (even this current version) for league minimum with no draft pick compensation is kind of a game changer for them. They're probably a 10 win team now. This conference is beyond freaking stacked with mid-level playoff teams.

Jump ball offense is going to make Joe Burrow blush.

Nah, you had it right in the first place. Russell @ Denver has "two beleaguered franchises gifted a primetime slot" written all over it. Perhaps early in the season. High drama. 😳🍿

I guess there’s a non-zero chance this could work. Arthur Smith did run that TEN offense that had people talking MVP for Tannehill that one year.

DrunkBassGuitar 03-11-2024 02:20 PM

He sucks now but I really want him to go to the playoffs (or even win a WC game) because it would be really funny and make Broncos fans even more mad

Oh no doubt this is what will happen. He will ball out in Pitt because Pitt likes to hand the ball off 60-70% of the time just like Seattle when Russell was there. Russell won't have to think with Smith as OC. All Wilson will be doing is handing the ball off and scrambling around throwing the ball deep. Pretty simple. And to your point it will be glorious watching Denver fans out here gnash their teeth in rage as Pitt goes to the playoffs as a WC.LMAO

Pinchshot 03-11-2024 06:10 PM

A QB for the price of the cleaning staff. Hard to say no.

seamonster 03-11-2024 07:00 PM

Grade-A Mike Tomlin move. Get a mediocre QB to get you to the playoffs where you'll get bounced in the first round. Then fire the offensive coordinator and hire another failed head-coach to coordinate the offense. He's got a system.

Yup. Thats extremely accurate.

Red Dawg 03-11-2024 07:09 PM

Wilson is just a waste of time.

displacedinMN 03-11-2024 08:12 PM

good luck with that Pitts

gordonelloyd 03-11-2024 11:39 PM

Great move by Pittsburgh. Wilson Has to be an improvement over what they have had. And they have the potential to have a good team, both on offence and defense. Maybe even one that won’t lose once the playoffs start. And if I understand this right, and Denver hast to keep paying most of his salary going forward, Pittsburgh should be in a really good cap situation.

Bump 03-12-2024 12:01 AM

it would be kind of funny if they had some magical year and Wilson was runner up for MVP but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs (my favorite team) in the AFCCG. Just to laugh at the Broncos. I don't really like the Steelers though, but I definitely don't really like Denver more.

The last part is incorrect, just applies to paying him this year. The cap hit (dead cap) is two years.
