Chiefs moves this off-season (So far)
I normally like individual threads for discussion topics, but I've been quite busy over the past few weeks and haven't kept up on all the releases, signings?, etc.
Does anyone have a list we can just post in this thread to see what has happened so far? |
There was another thread like this created but the OP didn't keep it up and it lacked info so it's fallen away.

We still have Reid and Mahomes, the rest is just fodder tbh.

Thanks wilson8

My guess is that we add DL depth with a cheap vet or two, then hit it hard in the draft. A safety somewhat early wouldn’t be a bad idea.
I expect us to add an OT early in the draft. OL is otherwise pretty set. I think we grab a vet WR and draft one early. Really solid looking roster overall. |
WR - JuJu gone, Hardman and Watson TBD. Obvious downgrade
OT - OBJ and Wylie gone. Taylor in. Pretty neutral DE - Frank out, Charles O in. Upgrade. LB - Tranquil is an upgrade over Harris. S - Thornhill out, Edwards in. Edwards a year younger and a ball hawk. Upgrade. |
Thanks Wilson, it sure makes it a lot easier to see the holes.
I agree we probably need a 4th S. I wouldn't be surprised to see Watson come back at WR and Nnadi for beef at DT. Both Ross guys at WR have my attention. John Ross is a burner with an injury history, but still a former 1st rounder. Justyn Ross is a big guy that had some health issues, but still looked pretty good in his 1st 2 years at Clemson. |

1. I really, really expect Jerick McKinnon to be re-signed but it is possible some team pays more money for him. 2. Andy will have to have a fullback and usually a veteran, but not a lot left on the fa market right now. I really wanted Samaje Perine to fill the roll of FB/ST/RB for KC but he signed with Broncos for two years, $7.5M, $3M fully guaranteed. 4. Ronald Jones is visiting the Dallas Cowboys today. 5. Other than McKinnon, I don't see the Chiefs signing a free agent running back now. 6. I expect Chiefs to fill the RB need with the draft. After the Isiah Pacheco low round draft success, I think KC tries that route again. I have seen kccrow mention RB Xazavian Valladay from Arizona State and Wyoming a few times in his past draft mocks. Valladay did really well in the East-West Shrine Bowl. He has some really good college stats - https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb...alladay-1.html yet many mock draft sites don't even list him as a draftable RB this year. |

I've read that Brett Veach was really high on Justin Watson in originally signing him to the Chiefs. The thing I did not like about Watson last year was his 44% catch rate. No better way to kill a drive than not making the catch. I liked Derrick Nnadi but I felt like he gave very little effort last year. Not sure what was going on. He played in all games but only played 34% of defensive snaps. He also had his career low of 25 tackles. It will be interesting to see what the Chiefs can get from Kadarius Toney, Justyn Ross, and John Ross. Any success we get from Ross and/or Ross is not expected but will be nice to see. The Chiefs trainers and medical staff will also have to try and keep them healthy. |
Todd pinkston knows shit all about RB

Free Agent DTs Shelby Harris SEA 31 years old Derrick Nnadi KC 26 years old I think we have to attack this with the draft. |

I think McKinnon comes back on a smaller deal. It sucks for him not getting "paid", but such is the life of an NFL RB. |

What’s your point?? |
The whole Jones extension silence is puzzling. It sounds like it's a done deal and Chris is a happy camper. You'd think, under normal circumstances, we would have heard something about the deal and how much money was saved. But we all know Veach isn't a normal guy, so it may be a way to bargain down the asking price of a couple of players.

Patience. All is coming. And I have a hard time seeing the team that is going to dethrone a healthy Chiefs team. |

Check it out: is there a team in the AFC-W that boasts a top-5 running game? Maaaaaybe LVR with Josh Jacobs, but they haven't even been using him that way under McD. Is there a legit AFC champion contender with a top-5 running game? BUF, no. CIN, no. JAX? Possible, but Doug Pederson isn't known for running the crap out of the ball either. In the NFC all I see is either SF or PHI. And our defense handled both their run games very well with the likes of Nnadi, Saunders, Turk and Williams at DT. I don't think KC necessarily has to get better with their DTs in 2023, just can't be worse. Am I crazy? |

can we get a list without all the currently rostered players?

The Saints did the voidable year contract to be able to pay more and kick the can down the road again as-far-as Cap dollars. It is a 3-year playing contract with an additional 3 voidable years added on. So far Brett Veach has not wanted to play that game. Saints have to do that to keep a team on the field. Something else to consider about a Khalen Saunders long term contract. Saunders played for KC for four seasons and this year was his only season he did not miss games. In 2020 he played 3 games. In 2021 he played 7 games. |

Kemp signed with the Commanders.

Seems like the Chiefs haven't shown much interest in signing a veteran QB to compete with Buechele... looks like QB2 is his job and they'll maybe draft (or sign an undrafted free agent) developmental QB to put on the practice squad.

Here you go. :p

Anybody else think that we have a legit top-10 secondary/LB corps? Somehow Veach really upgraded those rooms and didn't get bent over doing it. Pretty excited just to see what his plan is for the DL. I've said multiple times that we'll never see a top-5 D in KC, but depending on what moves Brett makes, we might get one in 2023. Heck, even f he just brought back the main guys from last year's DL, it would probably crack the top-5, I think.

Added DT Byron Cowart and TE Blake Bell to the roster list.
