USS The Sullivans (museum ship) partially sinks
This sucks.
https://ewscripps.brightspotcdn.com/...ullivans-2.JPG The World War II era destroyer, USS The Sullivans, suffered a hull rupture and partially sank in her mooring at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park in Buffalo, New York. Launched in 1943, she was named in honor of the five Sullivan brothers who were all killed aboard the USS Juneau during the Battle of Guadalcanal. Funds had been raised to make hull repairs, but the work had been suspended over the winter and was scheduled to resume next Monday. Talk about shitty timing. Hopefully they can save her. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YhIWGNuDcUI" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Well, that's a bad look.
|
Russians?
Possibly Ukrainians as they're rumored to be good at this kind of stuff. |
damn that's tragic
funds were being raised is there like a gofundme? link a navy vet |
Frazod were you there? That could explain why

dude it aint the time for fat jokes is it
|
That ship be like, "If you won't get me out of Buffalo, then I'm going to sink myself!"

That's not the Chiefs "to the ship" we're talking about.
|
There's a rumor going around about why this happened: loose lips.

The Sullivan brothers are holy ground in my area. Waterloo Iowa has the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum and numerous other buildings and parks named after them.
Fun fact, I dated one of the Granddaughters of one of the Sullivan Brothers. Hopefully they can save this museum ship. |
She's a replica of the Moskova now
|
Shitters full
|
That sucks that one of our warships can't even float. Was it made in China ?

I had a teacher named Mr. Sullivan in Waterloo. Whenever he was asked if he was related to the Sullivan Brothers, he would say "Yes, I'm one of them." I loved that. Glad to see that Sullivan Brothers Museum is reorienting its front door situation. Such a great museum. |

I bet some Japanese midget sub is trying to escape out the St. Lawrence Seaway as we speak. I hope we're patrolling the area heavily.

Update: Progress is slow.

I traveled to Buffalo this summer and saw the naval park. The USS Sullivans was (and still, I believe, is) closed off, but going on the other vessels is a cool experience. The adjacent museum is limited but worthy of checking out. It would have been nice if the museum had something about the Sullivan Brothers.
There are two Sullivan Brothers ships, the one in Buffalo, and then one that is still active. The boys’ mother sponsored the first one, and the granddaughter of one of the boys is the sponsor of the active one. It is naval tradition that only a female sponsor a ship. I believe there is some talk of dry-docking the ship for the permanent future. I think everyone is on edge about seeing how this winter goes. |
I'll bet it sank in 13 seconds.
|
Money to spend on Ukraine but not on our own history.

A similar thing happened to the U.S.S. Batfish near me. |
They should sell it for scrap metal
|
To be renamed kohls.
|
I guess the Bills aren't the only sinking ship in Buffalo.
|
the sullivans brothers are the reason that brothers don't serve with each other in case one died the other one can go home.
