Mahomes effect. Expect many other new luxuries coming to the KC area over the next decade.

Yes, it’s been known for a while now, but it was buried in the Mahomes thread. Never had a thread of its own.

No Whataburgers in KC before now? How is that possible? We have them everywhere in AZ.

Whataburger is pretty good. Great opportunity for them. The partnership with Mahomes is pretty obvious.

In N Out is ****ing trash though.

What is it you like about Braums? Honest question, we've had many in Springfield for more than a decade and I've never had anything from there I'd consider above average for fast food. Their crinkle-cut fries are okay...I guess.

In my opinion Whataburger is the best chain burger out there...and totally agree with you about In and Out. When In and Out came here people lined up for blocks...when I finally went I was like WTF? Now we have White Castle here too and I'm hearing my friends say same about them...must be nostalgia.

I liked their burgers quite a bit as a teenager. That's a tragedy is they have changed. I dont care much for crinkle cut fries from there, Culvers, or anywhere. Tastes like cafeteria food to me.

I was in St. Louis because I'm a moron, with my wife, and we tried the white castle there because I watched the Harold and Kumar go to White Castle movies and because I heard it was great.

Literally terrible, the sliders at chilis are better, I have no idea why people would like them. Maybe I just got a bad bunch, but they were basically inedible.

Good fries can stand alone.

Pouring thousand island dressing on top doesn't make the actual fries any good.

This. It's mediocre at best fast food. But you can get it late and more options are never a bad thing I guess.

Five Guys is 5 dollars more and 10 times better.

Nostalgia definitely plays a part. Growing up we’d go down a few times a year and we’d always stop at Whataburger. It was our thing. We’d talk more about visiting Whataburger than we would about visiting grandma. Rationally, I know I oversell it in my head because I associate so much with good memories, but I don’t care, still excited.

In and Out, with which I have no connection from my youth, was incredibly disappointing when I had it for the first time and have no desire to ever have it again.

eDave 08-07-2020 07:38 PM

Basic Burger.

Had my first Shake Shack burger the other day. Way to salty. In n Out that way too.

David's Hamburgers in Scottsdale has really great burgers.

Five Guys and Whataburger aren’t really competitors though. One is fast food and the other is fast casual. Five Guys competes against Smashburger and Shake Shack. It’s like comparing Taco Bell to Chipotle.

In n Out is nothing special. It's consistently cooked well and above average and uses good ingredients but it won't blow you away and the fries are pretty worthless.

However, calling it trash is way overkill

Rasputin 08-07-2020 09:14 PM

I'm there dude

Hell yeah

I'd drive to Texas just for a Whataburger

Simply Red 08-07-2020 09:14 PM

good and they're hefty, the burger in-bag is heavy for only a sandwich.

mr. tegu 08-07-2020 09:15 PM

Count me as someone who was also disappointed in In N Out the first and only time I had it last year. Freddy’s is the best in my opinion.

Kiimo 08-07-2020 09:20 PM

Problem with In N Out is people won't shut up about it like it is mecca even though there are literally hundreds of boutique burger joints with knock your socks off good burgers all over LA

Bugeater 08-07-2020 09:23 PM

Back in the early 90s Livesteam and I hit one up in Norman, OK and thought they were pretty ****ing good. But I imagine like anything else they've starting skimping over the years, but I'll give them a try again when I'm in KC.

On a side note, if you ever happen to have the misfortune to find yourself in, or passing through Omaha, find a Don and Millie's. They're a local chain that far and away has the best burgers I've ever had anywhere...whether we're talking sit down, fast food or anything in between.

Dayze 08-07-2020 09:27 PM

Is this a “omg $14 1/8 lb burger and fry” place ?

Similar to Mr. Goodcemts sammich place here locally. Back in the 90s.....awesome. Now, it’s $10 bucks for some bread and a pound of lettuce with three slices of turkey,.

Goodcents blows ass since the middle easterners bought it about a decade or ore ago.

When you hear over and over how great some particular restaurant is, it's almost inevitable that you'll set yourself up to an expectation that it will never live up to.

Hell I remember when Subway first came out, their sandwiches were fantastic. The cut the bread with a V-channel down the center and loaded them up, and it was all top quality. Then once they built their reputation, they slowly cheapened them up every possible way they could.

Whataburger is a solid burger but nothing super special. However... after 11pm you can get the taquitos and those are beyond reproach. (sausage egg and cheese is the best of them)

We need a couple places from Des Moines to migrate down to KC. Specifically, Zombie Burger and Tasty Tacos.

I love the DSM. Best bike trail network in the midwest, awesome riverfront, breweries and lots of great places to eat all over the metro area. I've hit up Tasty Tacos several times but still haven't been to Zombie Burger. Brickyard Burgers in Adel is solid, we stop in there almost every time we're up that way.

Subway was my first job back in the mid 90s when that much superior v-cut was still a thing. After they switched to the side slice I’d ask for the old way for a time. I eventually gave up on it as it reached the point where I had to start explaining what I was wanting.

It just is so much better at keeping all the goodies in the sandwich.

Zombie Burger is over rated.

It’s OK I guess. Especially if you are looking for a gimmick. Head across the Street to St. Kilda’s surf and turf if you want real food.

I've heard mixed reviews, it's obviously gimmicky and not someplace I'd go out of my way for, but I'll try it if it fits into our plans sometime. Definitely strikes me as a place I'd go to once just for the experience but likely never return.

I like Freddy's especially the patty melt the shoestring fries are damn good too. That said if a Whataburger moved in next to my neighborhood Freddy's I'd shun old Fred big time.

Bugeater 08-07-2020 11:54 PM

Freddys is really good but way overpriced for what you get.

suzzer99 08-08-2020 12:24 AM

Whataburger would be insane not to build a bunch of stores in KC with Mahomes.

Look for the Habit to show up - best casual dining burger I've had. Well maybe except Shake Shack. They're close.

To give you an idea what kind of burger I like: Town Topic triple is the best. I miss Wylie's. Chubby's burger was amazing back in the day

Note: I've never had Whataburger.

PunkinDrublic 08-08-2020 02:02 AM

I miss Whataburger so much. They have so many burger options to choose from and the drive thru is open 24/7. For fast food, the portions are huge.

Red Robin - good burgers and big variety along with great steak fries, nice and crispy.

Culvers - excellent butter burger and their crinkle cut fries are fantastic and crispy as well as their shakes

Wendy's - still the best out of the Big 3 in terms of flavor and size. Their buns are the best but their fries still suck most times

Whataburger - pretty good but I find their buns too dry and big for their burgers. Fries are just OK. Decent shakes

Shake Shack - pretty good as well

Smashburger - very good and had two original the other night during my dinner break along with a Sam Adams, no fries.

Johnny Rockets - excellent burgers and shakes but sometimes they can be a little too greasy

Fuddruckers - probably some of the BEST burgers you will ever have but just never took off with poor marketing. I think people didn't like to wait 10 minutes for a burger that was supposed to be fast food. I love their burgers.

Five Guys - I would go to their original location in Alexandria and their burgers are real good but their fries are WAY overrated

In and Out- good burgers but the WORST fries of everyone. Bland sticks of nothing.

Steak n Shake - hit or miss but not bad burgers and a few more items than just burgers

Never did Freddy's but there is one in Tempe just down the block from Amazon that I will try on my dinner break one of these evenings.

Carl's, Jack in the Box, Sonic - All about the same. Good when you're drunk

White Castle - The Taco Bell of Burger's. Your ass knows why....

Burger King - One small step above McDonald's in flavor. Not much else going for it

McDonald's - The winner of the shittiest, greasiest, saltiest, smallest burger-to-bun ratio of all.

Agreed. It's probably over-hyped for sure. People are expecting some kind of Burger Epiphany, and they are disappointed on their first try...they are missing the point. In-N-Out is fresh and consistent, the restaurants are clean and the food is pretty solid.

If you don't go in with any ridiculous expectations, you won't be disappointed.

As a SOCAL transplant from KC, It took me awhile to "get it", now it's pretty much the only fast food I eat. If you can even consider it fast food. They are pretty slow. Oh, and I LOVE the fries. Acquired taste maybe.

Five Guys is disgusting, way too greasy. Gross.

MTG#10 08-08-2020 07:27 AM

Much like Braums, I dont get people's fascination with Freddy's either. Their burgers are decent but Culver's are a lot better imo.

I keep hearing great things about Shake Shack but we don't have any down here and when I make a trip to KC 2-3 times/year I cant get fast food when I'm close to Joe's/Q39.

With you on Fuddruckers. It’s worth the wait to get a good sized patty and load it up with onions, jalapeños and pickles at the condiment bar.

Look at competition.

Is whataburger fast food or more?

Could it make it AFTER cv19?

Never have been to a whataburger.

BTW-we have wahlburgers here now.....meh...But do have a dedicated fryer for fries and tots. Good for my kid.

You grew up in Atchison? Good God, I'm sorry.

Burgers are subjective. Like Bar b que. Personally, I love Freddy's but hate their fries. As a kid, I loved White Castle, but now, they give me gas. Bad gas. Last few times I ate at Steak and Shake, I got sick. All that said, If 15 likes Whataburger, I want him to have it.

What is it you like about Braums? Honest question, we've had many in Springfield for more than a decade and I've never had anything from there I'd consider above average for fast food. Their crinkle-cut fries are okay...I guess.

I've never had Braums fast food but I'll occasionally stop by their small market for milk or ice cream, usually pretty good.

Shake Shake - pretty good as well

Smashburger - very good and had two original the other night during my dinner break along with a Sam Adams, no fries.

Johnny Rockets - excellent burgers and shakes but sometimes they can be a little too greasy

This is why I'll never understand why I see so many people land at LAX or in San Diego, etc; and go straight to In N Out.

In N Out burgers aren't bad (of course, just smother everything in sauce!), but unless you're down to your last $7 and/or aren't able to wait a few extra minutes for The Habit or Smashburger, etc.... there are so many better burgers and you'll get far far far better sides.

It is kind of like comparing Taco Bell with Chipotle... yet, WTF would you ever go to Taco Bell?

You can get better food from a trashcan, five guys or bust here.

wazu 08-08-2020 09:32 AM

I feel I need to go there just to try the ketchup.

There's a burger joint across from Arkansas Tech U in Russellville called Feltner's Whatta-Burger. it's not part of the Texas Whataburger chain. It's been voted the best burger joint in Arkansas multiple times. I used to stop there going down to Hot Springs to see my parents. They are light years better than the Texas Chain. If you're ever driving I-40 across Arkansas, stop in and get a burger, fries and a shake. It's outstanding. https://www.whatta-burger.com/

I'm a simple man. I see somebody trashing that shithole and it's a thumbs up.

Oh and this thread has taught me that everyone hates everything and everywhere is overrated.
