He does now

lcarus 07-06-2020 03:02 PM

How old is he? 63? I could see him coaching until he's 70 or so. Maybe longer if his health is ok as he gets older. I worry about the big guy sometimes.

smithandrew051 07-06-2020 03:03 PM

If erections last more than 12 years, sign Mahomes to another extension

OrtonsPiercedTaint 07-06-2020 03:04 PM

He could go to the booth

Wisconsin_Chief 07-06-2020 03:06 PM

Pat is going to add years to Andy’s coaching life. If he was still having to stress himself out trying to win 10+ games per year with guys like Alex Smith, no way he makes it 12 more years. Having a great coaching staff on both sides of the ball will be crucial as well. At this point Andy is just tinkering with his playbook and playing arcade football on offense. He looks like he’s having more fun than ever.

With Pat running the show and taking the late game stress off Andy more and more, he could easily make it 12 if he wants to. Just depends on how many Super Bowls he feels like winning.

I’m going to say he makes it 10 more at least.

ChiefBlueCFC 07-06-2020 03:07 PM

Andy is gonna retire with 5 super bowl wins as Mahomes signs another extension but will stay with the organization. And Pat will win another 3 with the new coach

No one is ever going to believe that there was a time when Andy “couldn’t win the big one” or that there was a time when the Chiefs “couldn’t win in the playoffs”

Dante84 07-06-2020 03:10 PM

Kafka will be the next HC.

That. And retire after a SB win.

Yeah some guys are able to carry that extra weight and never really have serious health issues.

He sure looks like he’s got plenty of energy and some good years left in him.

KCUnited 07-06-2020 03:36 PM

That number seems way light...ohh years not beers, yeah that could be tight.

Those guys will be long gone by the time Andy hangs it up. The heir apparent will probably be some guy we've never heard of. Maybe it will be Mahomes himself.

eDave 07-06-2020 03:41 PM

I'm pretty stoked for Andy. God, he deserves it.

Chase Daniel

JD10367 07-06-2020 04:16 PM

Reid is 62. Belichick is 68. Marv Levy was about 72 when he retired. So I think Reid is good for at least 5 years, possibly 10 years.

Mahomes is HC Viagra.

Matt Moore, Alex Smith, Kyle Shumur, etc....

Rain Man 07-06-2020 04:34 PM

The nice thing is that Andy no longer holds a stressful job.

Easy 6 07-06-2020 04:48 PM

Ten more years max IMO, just cant see his health holding up longer than that... probably more like 7-8

Otter 07-06-2020 05:29 PM

He better start hitting up some kale and chicken breast.

Pasta Little Brioni 07-06-2020 05:36 PM

He's got another 100 wins in him

BigRedChief 07-06-2020 05:43 PM

No but we will get our pick of the Andy Reid coaching tree.

PunkinDrublic 07-06-2020 06:45 PM

A big reason for Reid’s rejuvenation with the Chiefs is that he isn’t asked to be the hc/gm for us like he was in Philly and he’s said this many times in interviews. Andy has an obsessive passion for coaching and we got him back focused on what he loves to do. It really comes off in press conferences and interviews.

150 at least.

redfan 07-06-2020 07:52 PM

Yes, but he won't have to.

Best22 07-07-2020 02:31 AM

If he doesn’t then Mahomes will win with a different coach

New coaches didn’t stop Montana or Manning

TwistedChief 07-07-2020 02:54 AM

I think 5 more years realistically and 2-3 more SBs.

I don't think he has 10yrs left in him. Everything we read about Andy is that he's an epic workaholic. That all made sense when he was trying to win a SB, but after he has 1, then 2, then 3 SB trophies, that sort of lifestyle at his age (and potential health) is likely to seem less appealing to him and his family. And I'm sure he's the type of guy who would take real pride and great joy in handing the keys to the castle to someone who cut his teeth under him like a Kafka (pretty sure Bienemy will be gone by that point).

Regardless, Andy has earned the right to do whatever he wants for however long he wants.

But yet people on CP still believe Reid calls the shots.....

RealSNR 07-07-2020 10:37 AM

Andy Reid signed for 5 more years in 2017. I know life can change, but provided his health is okay, I don't think Andy plans on retiring before that contract expires. And all of his comments from this past Super Bowl seem to indicate he really is into this coaching gig for the process, not the rings. So I'd count on him sticking around at least 2 more years.

Next, I know I already brought this up when Don Shula passed away, but Andy is already top 6 all time in head coach wins, and with moderately decent seasons of coaching, he'll be top 5 all time, passing Curly Lambeau on the list. He doesn't care about setting the record, I imagine, but he clearly wants to keep going as long as possible.

And man, (knock on wood) but for a guy who eats like shit, never sleeps, and probably loses/gains a range of 50-75 lbs each year, he's in remarkable condition. No heart attacks, no strokes, no bad falls, no cancers. I know old age has a way of exponentially compounding small health problems and turning them into big ones, but with ZERO health crises to crop up with him as we know it thus far, Reid could probably coach longer than people think.

Will he? Probably not. But two more years is probably on the docket, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go longer.

Health-wise, one thing in his favor is that he's a pretty active guy. I'm not sure if he "works out" these days or not, but he's constantly moving around and working with guys in practice, so at least he's not sedentary.

Another 5-year extension seems like a given. After that, we see how his health is doing.

RealSNR 07-07-2020 12:54 PM

Would be awesome if that's exactly what happened.

Like, let's say Reid retired after winning another Super Bowl this year, and the job went to Bieniemy. There's not a Chiefs fan among us who wouldn't say that's a good move. As far as Reid assistants go, I think Bieniemy is way up there in terms of his view of coaching as teaching and being a leader who sets expectations for his team and for himself.

But we'd lose the experience (for sure) and it's honestly really nice to have such an innovative play designer like Reid. Year in and year out we're guaranteed to design something brand new that teams have never seen before, and we know that because every year teams get caught off guard by that innovation. Bieniemy might be a good designer, but I don't think he will approach being a guy who pushes the envelope quite like Reid does. And that would be fine. With Mahomes, we wouldn't need any of that shit.

All of this is speculation, though. Who knows if Andy will last that long, but as long as things are in order, I don't think Andy plans on retiring this year or the next. He knows what he's got now, and he's not going to just let it go simply because it's an appropriate age for him to call it quits, and everybody expects him to stop coaching because he's really fat.

He loses a lot of weight in the offseason. People made jokes about that exercise bike in his basement during the draft, but he absolutely uses that thing, at least in the offseason. You don't drop that kind of weight just by eating salads.

Yes he does. And I assure you he wants to at least equal BB in SBs(won) if not surpass him. All time wins ? Doubt he gets there but who knows. I think he has another 5-7yrs in him.

Chief Roundup 07-07-2020 05:41 PM

He probably has 6 more in him. That is also about the time that Mahomes contract will be renegotiated.

I would like Andy to lose some weight to help with this, but I feel like he could make it 12 more years bc he isn’t being stressed out.

Remember when Andy was so visibly stressed out and irritable during the Marcus Peters and Alex Smith saga of 2017? He had so much stress that he literally had to step back and have Nagy call plays. I think Andy had a lot of stress from his final year in Philly to the end of 2017.

That’s all gone now. Andy will never be stressed like that again, and that’s what makes me feel like he could make it 12 years. There is no more stress from helping bad rosters with difficult GM’s and limited QB’s to trying finally win a SB. It’s all done. Andy has been waiting for his unicorn his entire career and he finally got him. And Pat cemented his legacy.

Andy’s playing with house money at this point. He’s got his ring and he’ll be top 5 in all-time wins sometime this season.

This is heaven for him

InChiefsHeaven 07-08-2020 08:38 PM

I think it will depend on the next 5 years or so, but I really believe he can go at least until 70. Age messes with people in different ways, and a guy who is energetic and vibrant at 63 will probably not be that way at 70. Might be, but I wouldn't bet on it. He'll have some assistant that we all fall in love with who will take over for him in like 6 or 7 years, that's my guess. He's a great man and I hope he does this as long as he feels like he can.

Bob Dole 07-08-2020 08:54 PM

My money is on someone finding him dead in his office.

Gravedigger 07-08-2020 08:59 PM

I hope he leaves us with a competent and worthy successor that gets along with Pat and doesn’t try and draft Mahomes’ replacement in his second year.
