Per Terez, Tremon Smith picked up by the Packers

Terez just tweeted that Tremon Smith was picked up by the Packers.

chinaski 09-16-2019 02:17 PM

Corner?
Receiver?
Barrista?

Pitt Gorilla 09-16-2019 02:19 PM

There was no chance he was clearing waivers. Chiefs Fan might have hated him, but his speed and versatility made him valuable on that contract.

Versatility?

KChiefs1 09-16-2019 02:39 PM

Glad he’s in the NFC.

Dunerdr 09-16-2019 02:40 PM

What versatility?

Mecca 09-16-2019 02:44 PM

Still don't get why Ryan Hunter wasn't waived, do we need 10 OL?

Gadget player on offense, cb on defense, special teams returner/gunner. Obviously not great at all/any of them, but certainly useful.

Cosmos 09-16-2019 03:03 PM

Don’t get that D’anthony Thomas is still here...

I know, special teams....but seriously, what else?

Dude had to sit out a game suspended, isn’t involved in the offense....we know what what DT is.... Tremon was more of a wild card I would liked to have held onto.

Blick 09-16-2019 03:11 PM

Still weird to me that they didn't try to develop him at corner full time.

They tried a bit, he was really really bad at it.

DAT actually contributes albeit slightly on offense and is a very good ST player. While I like Tremon as a returner that is all that he can do.

MAHOMO 4 LIFE! 09-16-2019 03:12 PM

Joey Ivie gone. We signed some scrub Guard from the Ravens

Mecca 09-16-2019 03:13 PM

And now we pull the "tell us what they run on offense" move.

Given the option between the 2, DAT has a roster spot over a scrub like Smith on all 32 teams.

I'm still impressed that Gruden picked up that TE from the Ravens' practice squad. Dude appears to be a player.

I know, but he hardly got any time there. I guess it's just interesting to me how some guys get the benefit of patience and some don't. Some guys need more time to develop than others. It made sense to me with our corner situation to be a little extra patient with a guy at that position.

Look at Kpass where the patience and development seem to be paying off. He looks to be a solid contributor this year.

Are you talking about Darren Waller?

He has size 6-6, 255.

He has speed, 4.46 40.

BUT...

He was suspended for 4 games in 2016 for substance abuse and suspended for the season for the same in 2017.

He has talent and the Raiders need to keep him focused on playing football.

Kman34 09-16-2019 04:10 PM

Are they using him as a RB? ROFL

Yup. He looks like a good one.

Bump 09-16-2019 04:17 PM

he was going to be our Troy Brown, oh no!

scho63 09-16-2019 04:20 PM

Simple role player

I look at it this way, put a ball in each of their hands, who’s going to make a play, I’ve seen DATs ceiling.

I guess they feel like we have to protect our franchise QB even in the event of injuries.

Granted these guys were on the street but that’s who you get to pick from at this point.

Better to take the best guys “off the street” than to pick what’s leftover after the fact

keg in kc 09-16-2019 05:04 PM

They tried Tremon literally everywhere this offseason. They bent over backwards trying to fit him on the roster. Corner. Running back. Wide receiver. He didn't stick anywhere. Despite the fact that they clearly wanted to find a spot for him, desperately.

That's why DAT's here and he's not.

I don’t get the DAT love, he needs to kick rocks

Well, Green Bay committed to Smith as the KR.... and was able to get a 6th from the Raiders for the player Smith replaced.

Could we have got a 6th for DAT?

Still disagree with DAT over Smith FWIW...

I hope Smith returns a kick for a TD against the Broncos, as a parting gift for the Chiefs!!

DAT has been free to sign with other teams for most of the past two years, so no.

Can't imagine why anyone would have interest in a guy with limited talent who continues to field punts inside the 10 yard line.

scho63 09-19-2019 10:56 AM

This thread has a longer shelf life than Tremon's time on the field.

jjchieffan 09-19-2019 11:58 AM

Yep. I saw that trade on the ticker last night. First thing I thought was WTH? We couldn't get a pick for Smith, so we cut him. Then GB picks him up and gets a pick for the guy he replaced??

We have to make the other team punt to even need a returner!
