Simply Red 01-17-2019 04:01 PM

We were all in videos and stuff this season - so crazy - I was on the MNF intro. Who'd have thought? That was a dreamy weekend and I didn't even get my pickle tickled.

Edit: The Home opener weekend, not this last weekend.

Hammock Parties 01-17-2019 04:04 PM

Even that I liked. He was just a combative little shit non stop. I really think he could have worked out in the right environment. Pioli was.... not it. I'd kinda like him to get another shot at HC someday on another team just to watch the show.

Would you rather have Gunther or Bob Sutton for DC?

Yeah, players ball under him, even when he's had total shit bosses like Pioli and Hue Jackoff, and the dysfunctional shitshow that is Pittsburgh.

****, his offense took an Arizona Cardinals team to a Super Bowl, which still kinda blows my mind.

Doesn't matter how its spun, it's a low class move... don't like it from my HC, not even to opposing fans

He played a role in moving things along here, but he is just too low character to be the HC of a franchise IMO

He should have had better self control but there is no way it was unprovoked. Too many fans thinks they can say whatever they want. Amazing that there have not been more assaults.

I'm amazed their haven't been more ref assaults..after the beer cups being thrown at them after the Chargers game they have been doing better it seems..

Sometimes, the sarcasm's so thick, you don't need it explained.

Gunther was only good when he had DT, Neil Smith, Hasty, Carter, Woods, Wesley, Dan Williams, Joe Phillips, Dan Saleamua, Wayne Simmons (RIP), Donnie Edwards, et al

Those defenses were STACKED, yo.

Remember 2003, when we went 13-3 and the defense was terrible?

Vermeil fired GRob and brought Gunther back, everyone was all "SOOOPER BOWL", but the defense actually got WORSE, and we went 7-9 with a better, totally record setting offense in 2004?

I remember.

Gunther made the defense worse. And all through the Herm years...Gunther coordinated a defense that got like 9 total sacks in 2008.

We've had 3 PLAYERS get that or more this year.

Let that all sink in, and then try and tell me about how good Goonther ****ingham really is...

I'm the dude with the Zippy the Pinhead Chiefs stocking cap on. That must have been after the Colts playoff game win. And that picture of Todd Haley isn't Todd Haley. Nice likeness, but not the real guy.

JohnnyHammersticks 04-14-2019 04:11 PM

I remember a true fan on CP posting "Gunther is back and he's pissed!!" when we rehired him, and someone fixing his post to "Gunther is back and he's pissed himself!!". Still makes me chuckle.

I'm certainly not defending Gunther Cunningham as head coach. That was a disaster and all. BUT...those teams in 99 and 2000 were ball soup. The death throes of the Marty era and the pre-Vermeil era combined into one team. And Grbac.

He had two defenses that ranked #1 in points allowed. These came in his 3rd (1995) and 5th (1997) season as a DC. KC was 2nd in yards in 95 and 11th in 97.

Those are the only times he's been top 10 in points allowed. He's ranked in the bottom half as much as the top half (8 times each). In 2009 he had the 32nd defense in yards and points and he's ranked in the bottom 10 twice as often as the the top 10.

There were no several top 3 defenses. Just two. Basically the entire NFL had his defense figured out after about 5 seasons and it was downhill from there.

I could understand this thinking in 2004 when KC rehired him, but not now. You gotta know what he is by now.

Why?

Both guys only had a few elite defenses and only one of them was fielding a bad defense with a collection of all stars. What Sutton did with THAT pass rush was some kind of demonic miracle. It should be impossible to have the best pass rush in the NFL and still suck at defense.

They're the same. People figured them out in about 5 years and then the OC's ran over them.

Few DC's are good and stay ahead of the curve. Most of them get figured out pretty quick.

Sadly yes, the NFL HAS figured out Spags as well. My expectations are not high.
