It has been suggested that Chat be moved offsite to Discord. I personally don't know much about it, but I know a lot of people using for gaming chat and such. You'll have to register, but you can check it out here.

From my perspective, the main advantages of it are:

• It's not on our server, so it won't lag or go down during games.
• It's more modern, so you can do things like direct messages, images, attachments, etc.

On the other hand:

• There's no direct integration, so everyone will have to manually create an account if you don't already have one.
• Usernames won't translate from CP, so you might not be able to tell who is who.
• It's a completely separate system, and the CP mods have no control over it, so it's kind of a free for all.

I personally don't care - I'm only an occasional chat user anyway - so whatever most of you chat users want, I'm fine with. If most people would prefer giving Discord a try, I'll change the link in the header.

Discord is great. Our current chat is okay and fun, but it tends to freeze up and have issues.

I vote for Discord.

Either way, all of you in the game day thread need to get into chat instead.

I would say use the current chat for the rest of the season. Disable it after we win the Super Bowl and mandate a move to Discord with the next preseason as a trial run.

Primarily, no reloading the page all the time. It's a much more free flowing conversation compared to game threads, where there might 20 new posts by the time you compose your own.

I don't use chat that much, but if it comes to that, I might consider it. That being said, I'm still set in my own ways on using the game thread.

I've never used Discord but not afraid to try it after the Superbowl. I do like chat on gameday.

I have a feeling that if/when the Chiefs make the SB that the site is probably going to go down. Maybe try using Discord for a trial run next week and see how everyone likes it. Isnt there a Discord app?

If Discord isn't the answer, there are a variety of other options out there for hosted chat rooms. Unfortunately, the good ones generally have fees of around $20/month, but that might be doable if we get a handful of people to pitch in $10 per year or something.

Don't be so afraid of change guys. At least give discord a chance. You've got to be tired of not being able to post when the game thread blows the server up.

Discord is pc and phone friendly. Very easy to use.

Much less than posting in the game thread, but it has some impact.

I will try it out today, but i like an active chat. The CP chat doesn't work for me anymore because we have no computer, just mobile and tablet.

I use the gameday thread when im streaming the game so i dont know about stuff before it happens, as the stream lags 40 seconds or so behind.

I pop in for a few games a year. I don't mind the CP chat so I voted for it. I mean if it's clogging up the server at an unusual rate I could deal with other methods.

If there are no dancing banana emojis on Discord, you better forget about moving chat there.

I liked chat, but have t been on it for a while because I know primarily browse the internet etc with my iPad. And I think chat does t work on it because chat is a Flash program or something out that effect? So I’ve mainly stick tO GDT. But I did like the chat feature when I was on a laptop. As DaFace mentioned. It’s much more quickly paced

The chat we're using now isn't flash based (it used to be), so you should be able to use it on an iPad without a problem.

(That said, the user experience is probably better for Discord on mobile devices since it has an actual app.)

Not really, no. It's a half assed hack that was written a decade ago.

For those who don’t regularly go to the chat, we only won the game at Denver this season because TLO mandated that we only post in caps in the fourth quarter. It was a true revelation.

So Reerun gets banned for being a douche to DaFace about the server, and then votes to keep chat here, thus hurting the server performance. What a piece of shit.

Correct. Though I'd still argue that the user experience leaves something to be desired even when it's working well.

That's fair, but perhaps in the offseason, run a poll to gauge CP's preference if they want bells and whistles while on a different chat, or continue to use this one with no bells and whistles?

I'm a gamer, so if I were to chat I'd use Discord more. That said, we have a lot of old dudes on this site who probably wouldn't be able to figure it out.

We had it going last week, had a pretty good crowd. Hardest part is figuring out how to change your nickname to match your CP username.

Yeah, I use discord for gaming as well. I like the idea of having chat on CP, but that shit drops faster (and more often) than a hooker's skirt...
