Probably the most I have ever agreed with a Billay post.

Glad I moved further away from the metro.

Violent crime in Kansas City is definitely not trending in the right direction. Which is odd, being that violent crime around the USA has a whole has been declining since the 80s. Not a good sign.

The most dangerous/violent cities in the US.

2. St. Louis, Missouri

The violent crime rate in St. Louis is 1,913 per 100,000 people.

In 2016, 188 people were murdered in that city.

6. Kansas City, Missouri

In Kansas City, Missouri, the violent crime rate is 1,655 per 100,000 people.

In 2016, 129 people were murdered in that city.

13. Springfield, Missouri

The violent crime rate in Springfield, Missouri, is 1,337 per 100,000 residents.

Eight people were murdered in the city in 2016.

If you looked at all of it it mentions that but the other crimes that are also violent, rape, etc are lower so the total violent crime ranks them 24th.

I can't verify this, only relate what I was told. But years ago, the firm I worked for shared space with an insurance agency. One of the agents was a former coroner, and would on occasion be called in by Chicago if the number of bodies they had overwhelmed the staff. He told me that the official number of deaths, be they homicides or otherwise, was greatly under reported, and that if people knew the actual murder rate, it would scare the shit out of them.

Again, I can't corroborate this. Haven't seen the guy in the 25 years and don't even remember his last name. But considering how ****ed up Chicago is, I've never had any trouble believing it.

KCUnited 06-14-2018 07:30 PM

Forget just the homicides, someone gets shot in Chicago every 3hr 20min so far in 3018. Having been to Cook County hospital numerous times, there’s usually a waiting line of non-life threatening gun shot wounds, looking pitiful AF. FWIW it was every 2+ hours the previous couple years.

It's based on per capita and violent crimes overall not just murders.

Even with the murders, KC had 149 last year with a 500k population. Chicago had 650 with a 2.7million population. Chicago has a better ratio.

Compared to the amount of people, maybe not. Clearly a city with a much larger population than Kansas City is going to have more murders. How many murders out of 10,000 or 100,000 people sample is all that really matters.

chuxtrux 06-14-2018 09:47 PM

The murder count for KC this year while not great is at least looking better than last year, when we almost broke the city record for most murders in a year. I think 1993 still has the KC record. You think people would have been chill that year, we had just gotten Joe Montana and Marcus Allen.

BWillie 06-14-2018 09:50 PM

Quite honestly, 90% of all murders are gang or drug related. If you don't do either, you aren't really unsafe anywhere you go. The remaining 10% are murders of lust.

I feel like I'm in good shape. Ain't nobody going to be murdering me over my Bang Energy Drink & Swedish Fish habit.

Yet it was still half the murder rate of Washington DC from that era

KC has had crime but I don't think we've ever been murder capital

Eh while yes, the gangbangers aren't necessarily taking marksmanship classes so just being around seems to be good enough.

Hardly. It was a cold spring. It's really that simple. I don't know if they tend to stay inside when it's cold, or if high temperatures/no air conditioning make them snap and start shooting, or some combination thereof, but when it's hot in Chicago, the streets run red with blood.

Supposed to be humid and in the 90s this weekend, so look for the hoodrats to be blasting the **** out of each other, along with the odd innocent bystander honor student. One of them got greased last night, too - some poor little girl who didn't even live here. She was visiting her father for the summer. :shake:

This is the second thread in two days on a third local shooting in the area. So forgive me in advance or don't. But where are all of the Gun Ban Club members to condemn gun violence? Too bad that school's out. Guess they'll have to wait until August or September to get back on their soapbox. But it just shows that Chris Rock was right, and they only care when it fits nicely into their narrative, but not when it takes a daily toll in the part of town where they have the vote secured

Kinda crazy. 21 feet away and a knife has an advantage over a holstered gun.

Yanno who's aware of this fact? Police.

It's not as far as you think. If your arms are 3 feet long, you have to cover 18 feet. 6 foot strides, thats 3 steps. If it takes a step to determine that you're going to pull your gun I could see it.

I can draw from concealment and accurately fire an aimed shot in one second. I know because I've been timed doing it. And if some asshole is charging at me with a knife, I won't stop at one shot.

To be fair, I'm sure I'm far more skilled with a gun than most cops, and shoot far more often.

Yeah, I might get stabbed. But the other guy's going to have several expanded hollow point rounds in his chest. I like my survival odds better than his.

How quickly can the average man make eight steps? Not to mention if they have assistance from any number of substances. They're also not likely to stab once or twice. How easy is it to hold and fire a weapon while being stabbed repeatedly in the arm that's holding a firearm?

Why not run away from the knife while getting out your gun and turn around and shoot them. That’s how did it in the Army Iraq. Seemed very effective. Then again we weren’t into getting stabbed by terrorist. We would rather shoot them.
