Apparently I've been an admin here for 10 years. AMA I suppose.

Just out of curiosity, I looked at my account, and I was made an administrator on April 10th, 2008. Though I kind of stepped back on the mod duties for a few years, it's crazy to me that I've been trying to keep you guys from killing each other for over a decade.

Anyway, feel free to ask questions about the past 10 years as a mod, what it's like working for one of CP's most illustrious members, why Denver is an OK place despite the stench wafting over from the Broncos, or whatever.

Or don't. I could just ban people randomly instead, which might be about as fun.

You've always found me 'overrated' on CP as a poster, true, correct?

Alas, probably never. I don't really think anyone can ever be "good" at moderating a place like CP. If we were a forum where the overall philosophy was dictated from above rather than pseudo-democratic, it wouldn't be that bad. But 90% of moderating on CP involves interpreting the grey area between written rules, common sense, and community preferences. I don't think anyone can ever get to the point that they can make every decision with absolute confidence.

Heh...no clue. I pay very little attention to college sports in general, let alone Division II schools. I suppose I could say Emporia State since I went there, but outside of women's basketball, they never did anything notable while I was there.

I'm a fairly new CP poster- as an admin of the last 10 years give me your biggest Chiefsplanet controversies that you've had the endure or handle over the last decade.

I think "overrated" takes it too far. I'd rather have 10 of you than 1 poster who is a complete idiot and just spouts nonsense all the time.

I do think your signal to noise ratio is a little low for my personal preferences, but that is true for a lot of people.

Nah. I don't think I've ever banned anyone or even booted them for a thread for anything anyone's said to me personally. I'm definitely not the "internet is serious business type."

Biggest was and somehow remains the epic Dane vs. R8ers blow up from back in 2011 or so. It's incredibly difficult to figure out where to draw the line on insults on a board that prides itself on loose moderation.

Probably neither. A majority of the stuff I've done around here is probably more on the "admin" side than the "mod" side. I do think I've had a role in making the place more usable over the years, so I guess that's more on the good side.

It's hard to think back on anyone from the past and remember it clearly. Midnight Vulture was one of the worst but became one of my favorite stories after we managed to out him as a fraud. There is a laundry list of either incredibly stupid or incredibly trolling posters over the years that aren't worth much.

But for the most part, very few posters really get under my skin on a personal level, so I'm sorry that I don't have any better answers here. :)

Becoming a mod doesn't do it, but the first time you wield the ban hammer you have to make sure there's no one standing in front of you.

Forgive me if I'm forgetting, but...do I know you? I'm close with Dr. B. I was president of the choir for 3 years and worked as his assistant for two. I went to his retirement ceremony in Wichita last February.

Others can chime in, as the details are fuzzy at this point, but the gist is that he kept trolling nonstop and posting all these threads about him being a bodybuilder, all the chicks he was getting, etc. We eventually found the actual guy whose pics he was using, and that guy came on and posted for a bit (and was understandably confused and irritated). Seems like MV himself ended up being some scrawny asian dude IIRC.

AustinChief owns the place, but he has a pretty hands-off approach and largely doesn't get involved in the day to day operations unless something major breaks. Bearcat and I are "admins" which means that we have access to all of the backend nuts and bolts to keep the place running. We also have mod powers, though I took a step back from that for a couple years. The rest of the mods are able to manage users and such, but they can't get in and reboot the server, for example.

My wife and I took a week-long loop through Alamosa, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, and Gunnison last year. Beautiful town, but I mostly think of it as the place to stay when you're out visiting places like Mesa Verde and the surrounding area. The drive from Durango to Ridgway is one of the most beautiful in the state.

Yep. ChiefsPlanet is the reason I've had the job I have for the past 11 years. I noticed Rain Man talking about his research company, and that's what I was interested in. I bugged him via occasional PMs for a couple years before coming out for an interview, and the rest is history.

I certainly had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up for the first couple years. I started out as a Physics major at UM-Rolla but hated it. Transferred to Emporia as a Music Ed/Math Ed dual major. Eventually decided I wanted to make money, so I changed to a Business major with a marketing emphasis. Eventually got my MBA before joining Rain Man, Inc.

Heh...that's a good question. Both of us are moderately active, but both in sports that require legs rather than arms (running for him, skiing/hiking for me). I'd bet I could take him if I offered to buy him a Diet Dr. Pepper as a consolation prize.

I doubt either of us would react particularly strongly. I hope I'm not incorrectly speaking for Rain Man when I say that neither of us are going to be winning any bodybuilding competitions.

Close, but not quite. (Though the choir's name was technically "A Cappella Choir," there was far less dancing involved.)

So your ritual would basically be to buy him off with a soda, and he wouldn't even bother with a ritual other than folding immediately and giving in. Got it.

Heh...I'd forgotten about that. At the time, it was basically just me and morphius trying to keep the place running (though Dole was around, he's always been hit or miss in terms of being online), so I would randomly get tons of PMs while I was driving down the road and have to muddle through banning users and deleting posts on my first smart phone. It sucked.

It sucked.

Yeah. That was reeruned. The hell of it is that he had to see that shit too to grab the address.

Dumb**** that guy was.

Romper Room was a brilliant add and cover for the gray areas. Kadoo's (RIP Dane).

I'm not sure if anyone can find me this thread- but I would enjoy the laugh.

That's a true judge of character and ability to mod.

Is that adminning the bulletin board functionality or the server etc? I assume patriotsplanet has their own admins. If not, and they beat us again in the playoffs can you shut their board down for a few hours? :hmmm:

What did you sing and did you ever solo? (Tenor, Baritone)

Tenor. And I had solos here in there, but I certainly don't consider myself to be a solo singer. I've barely sung since college (~12 years ago).

Creepiest? None really come to mind. I think there have been a handful of times where people have tried to get me riled up by using my actual name and stuff, but nothing's ever come of it.

Gotta go with cake, though I'm not much of a dessert guy overall. I won't fight for either.
