You can't be a fan of rock and roll and not be a Chuck Berry fan. His music is so amazing today that I can't even imagine what it was like to people back in the 1950s.
|
Strange to think he'd have never been anything if not for his cousin Marvin.
|
Chuck invented the basic grammar for playing rock and roll guitar. He knew a thing or two about writing lyrics also.
We lost a great one. |
RIP
In 7th grade I got sent to the principals office because I brought my Reelin and Rockin 45 to music class for record day. Thank you for the swat Mr. Maggard.........asshole. ROFL The look on Mrs. Crafts face as she shot across the room to rip my record off the turntable was priceless. |

My good pal Marc is a pretty well known songwriter/musician in St. Louis. He posted this story on his Facebook tonight: I met Chuck at Lambert Airport. He was sitting on a stanchion on the lower level, smoking a cigarette. Guitar case at his feet. I walked up to him and asked for his autograph. He said "Of course." I dug around in my bag for my lyric book and handed it to him. He looked at the pages and said "These words look important." I told him they were lyrics. He found a blank page, wrote his name, then said "Don't stop." I haven't. If you come to the Songbird Café this Wednesday night you'll get one of those compositions that is actually dedicated, in part, to Chuck.

The three greatest Missourians are Harry Truman, Mark Twain, and Chuck Berry, in that order.

My wife and I saw Chuck at Memorial Hall in KCK in 1973. Halfway through the show, if you weren't dancing, you had no soul.

On a semi-related note, I've watched this video from John Scruggs that showed up on my FB feed a dozen times now.
<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fdusttodigital%2Fvideos%2F10154920261190821%2F&show_t ext=0&width=400" width="400" height="400" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe> When I reposted it a few weeks ago - my comment was "if you listen closely, you can almost Maybelline being born". Chuck Berry was the right guy at the right time to evolve the music of slaves and sharecroppers, which itself had evolved from African rhythms mixed with gospel hymns and old Southern standards, into the most popular genre of music ever. |

Top three Missourian who was busted pissing in hookers mouths and spying on women peeing in public bathrooms. Yup, that's about the best the state of Missouri has to offer the world.

Secesh trash. If Missouri were on fire, Chuck Berry wouldn't piss on it to put it out. He'd be too busy farting in some toothless St. Louis whore's face. |
Missouri isn't so ****ing pathetic. Your entire identity isn't wrapped up in hating Kansas for the sole reason that they didn't believe in slavery. Quite the claim Tom fame.
Burn the whole place down, starting with Chuck Berry's worthless grave. |

I worked at WOF as a kid and worked OT that evening at the amphitheater just to see that concert. It was late starting like 2 hours. The reason was Chuck asked for his money up front. The director of entertainment handed him a WOF check signed by Lamar Hunt and Chuck refused it says he only works for cash lol. well in the 70s cash wasnt easy to come by on a weeked when banks closed. I guess it was a mad dash to come up with but they did and the show went on. I was a great concert and got to see him duck walk across the stage from the corner stage. RIP Chuck you weren't Elvis you were better. Rock is King and you were the originator. |

I remember when I used to stash my stuff in a Chuck Berry 8 track tape. When my buddy got in the car he said 'Let's play Chuck Berry!'. |
