At this rate there won't be any musicians left alive at the end of the year.

Wow.
Game. Blouses. Legendary musician. this is a bad year for celeb deaths. |
Can't say enough about how great and talented that man was.

Authorities said Thursday morning that they are investigating a death at Prince’s Paisley Park in Chanhassen. “We’re currently conducting a death investigation and there isn’t much I can say,” said Jason Kamerud, chief sheriff’s deputy for Carver County. “We’re withholding information on the identification of the decedent until after we’ve connected with the next of kin. Once that has been done we will issue a press release.” Asked specifically if Prince had died, Kamerud repeated that he couldn’t confirm the identity of the decedent. “I appreciate that you need to report responsibly. I want to be responsible to the decedent’s next of kin. I think that’s the respectful thing to do.” Just last weekend, Prince’s private plane made an emergency landing early Friday morning in Illinois as he was returning to the Twin Cities from two shows in Atlanta on Thursday. Afterward, a source close to Prince told the Star Tribune that the singer was dehydrated on the flight home. Prince himself wanted to clarify the situation on Saturday: “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.” |
This is nuts

Wow. Not really a fan personally but undeniably, unbelievably talented

I wonder if it was really the flu or if it was something more serious that was undiagnosed. It seems like there are lots of fatal things that are initially self-diagnosed as the flu.
I don't know much about him but always had the impression that he was a pretty clean-living and healthy guy. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) It seems like he just drew the short straw on this. |
First thing I thought of. I load this up and listen from time to time. First of all, one of my favorite Beatles' tunes and then Prince absolutely shreds the guitar solo.

Damn, RIP |
Was never really into his music. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name is the Jimmy Fallon debacle.

The last thing I heard about Prince was that he showed up at some random dinner theatre here, rolled out on stage unannounced to play guitar with the band for a number, then left. I've heard other stories from people who saw him on a flight or somewhere else or about him visiting local music stores in disguise and other stuff. A unique character.

The last time I saw him live was around 1997 at a VH1 Music Cares concert at the (then) Universal Amphitheater.
Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan and several other great live acts performed, with Prince closing out the show. I've been to a metric shit ton of shows, whether they've been in clubs, theaters, amphitheaters, arenas and stadiums and I've never seen anything like Prince in my entire life. He was way too young. R.I.P. |
Woah.
I was just thinking a month or so ago, that I hoped they'd go get him to do the SB Halftime again. Since, you know, they can't get anyone worth a shit. I never got too much into him, but he was ****ing legit. |

Finally an RIP thread I can respect. I came up in Prince's big days in lime light. He was a real original and made a lot of really fun songs.
Damn good entertainer in concerts as well. He knew how to put on great show with old school musical talent. RIP Prince |
Glenn Frey, David Bowie and Prince all dead in 2016. WOW THAT SUCKS! Makes me feel quite old and a little less immortal. :deevee:
|
Yet Keith Richards is somehow still alive

He's the same age as me. Really sucks to lose the musicians of my youth. When I worked in college radio at Mizzou, a guy who was the music critic at the student newspaper The Maneater named Chuck Eddy -Chuck went on to write for Rolling Stone and Creem- came down to the station with this EP of a skinny black guy wearing a leopard spotted speedo with Little Richard Hair. He was adamant that we play him...and PLAY HIM RIGHT NOW.
It (of course) was Prince, before Purple Rain and all his fame. Chuck knew what he was talking about. I was the same way when I first saw and heard Elvis Costello. Terrible loss to American Music. It'll be sad to never see him perform again. |

RIP Sweet Prince. |
I got laid to purple rain once. In my car too. While I'm not a big Prince fan, he was a hell of a talent. You, sir, will be missed.
|
Its pretty telling how respected he was when Fox News is covering it with the same intensity as if some beloved head of state had just died
|
