What covid changes in your life will be permanent?

I've made a bunch of changes in my life over the past nine months, and frankly some of them have been pretty good experiments. In some cases I'll revert back, but in others I probably won't.

How do you think you'll think/act differently going forward as a result of this?

For me, some changes that will stick are:
  • I'll work from home more.
  • I'll probably continue to give people distance when I pass them on the street.
  • I'll go to restaurants less often and get takeout more.
  • There'll be notable changes to my business office, though not sure what yet. It'll definitely be less space than we pay for now.
  • On an investment front, I've learned that tech is a safe haven now, so I've upped my tech allocation in my investments, and that won't go back down.
  • I'll likely get a bidet as I redo a bathroom so I don't have to worry about future toilet paper shortages.
  • I've discovered a lot of good new foods as a result of online shopping, so my dining at home will carry forward these discoveries.

Some changes that might stick in whole or in part:
  • I'll keep getting groceries delivered instead of going to the store. I'm not sure if this one will stick or not just because I live a block from a store.
  • If I have a cold or flu, I'll wear a mask.
  • I'll go back to running in parks and on trails, but I've found good alternate routes that I'll continue to use (routes which allowed greater social distancing but are generally pleasant).
  • I'll be more likely to get a regular flu shot given what I've learned about contagion.
  • I'll probably go back to doing more crowd things (e.g., shows, parties, etc.), but less than before and mostly because my wife will want to go.

Some changes that won't stick and will revert back to normal:
  • My leisure travel will go back to old habits. However, I may consider more road trips for a while where feasible.
  • I've been a very casual dresser for the past nine months, and have been barefoot more than I've ever been in my life. That'll need to change if I'm doing more in-person meetings again.
  • I look forward to being able to go back to my local mall, buy some Panda Express, and people watch while I work remotely. I actually may miss that more than anything else.

Shoes 12-03-2020 12:44 PM

When things are back to normal I am going right back to my old habits. You bet your ass when bars/pubs are back, I am going to pull out too much money, get blackout drunk and strikeout on the dance floor.

Can't wait.

Spott 12-03-2020 12:49 PM

Hopefully none. I was never a germophobe type and I don’t think I ever will be.

Bugeater 12-03-2020 12:52 PM

None

wazu 12-03-2020 12:53 PM

Ceremonial mask-burning on the front lawn and then full back to “old” normal.

smithandrew051 12-03-2020 12:53 PM

I hope to jerk off less, but I don’t have much faith in myself

cabletech94 12-03-2020 12:57 PM

I shake hands all the time, well I used too. When things go back to normal, I might not still. I’ll mos def use hand sanitizer though.

BWillie 12-03-2020 12:58 PM

I can't think of any quite frankly. Maybe I would wear an N95 mask on a plane during cold and flu season but I think that might be it.

Honestly, outside of having to wear masks in order to go grocery shopping... Covid hasn't changed a damn thing about how I go about life. I basically only leave the house to go get groceries or other necessities. Other than than, and outside of a Chiefs game, **** being around other people.

The post immediately above yours would suggest that hand sanitizer is a good policy.

Titty Meat 12-03-2020 01:05 PM

I'll start utilizing closer combat moves again. Lately I've just been using jabs and hooks but once the threat of covid is eliminated I'll get back to upper cuts and body slams

I’d be ok with handshakes going away. It’s always been a bit of a socially awkward tradition anyways.

Bearcat 12-03-2020 01:09 PM

Grocery delivery, as long as it sticks around a few bucks. Not dealing with people and saving a couple hours on a Sat/Sun is worth the ~$10 combined for a couple of deliveries.

Food delivery to some extent... I never used those services before, but will probably keep using them every once in a while.

I already work from home and workout from home, and don't go out to eat a ton.

Travel is the one big thing that I'd love to see go back to normal, or at least something. After traveling quite a bit in the year or two prior, leaving the state once since March has been kind of sad.

luv 12-03-2020 01:13 PM

Socially distance myself where I can.

Places I look forward to going to again: Arrowhead, a movie, anywhere without having to wear a mask.

Oh, that's a good one. I too will abandon the handshake. I hope that doesn't cause a lot of awkwardness to implement because handshakes serve no purpose other than to make germs and viruses chortle.

BWillie 12-03-2020 01:20 PM

It's hard to get all of the smells in on sniffers row with a mask.

MahomesMagic 12-03-2020 01:33 PM

I am using the expectation that in person meetings are not needed to make my business more efficient. I am also implementing even more automation as I have had time to step back and think about some things.

As for everything else? No, I liked what we had before better than Fauci's vision of a world with no smiles or handshakes.

DaFace 12-03-2020 01:34 PM

I'd generally say none, but I had already been doing grocery orders and some level of restaurant pickup before all of this hit. I really hope that my travel and entertainment go back to the way they were before. I suppose working from home is probably going to be a bit more regular for me moving forward, but that's about it.

duncan_idaho 12-03-2020 01:37 PM

For me, some changes that will stick are:
  • I'll work from home almost exclusively.
  • I'll probably continue to give people distance when I pass them on the street.
  • Wearing a mask when I am sick
  • Wearing a mask during the height of cold and flu season. I'm really susceptible to strep throat (enormous tonsils here, I'm the Peter North of tonsils) and the mask can help me avoid transmission of strep to my mouth via inhalation
  • I'll continue to wash/sanitize my hands after touching public surfaces, in addition to basic hygiene. Again, mostly due to strep rather than COVID.

Some changes that won't stick and will revert back to normal:
  • Travel habits
  • Kids in private school
[/QUOTE]

Eureka 12-03-2020 01:37 PM

I had my first child during this pandemic so I won't ever go back to what normal was before.

OP has some good points/observations though.

I can't wait to get back to traveling. Even though I have a child I have built in babysitters via in-laws.

ChiTown 12-03-2020 01:39 PM

I'll keep wearing a mask when I use a public restroom - it helps quite a bit with the smell...

BigCatDaddy 12-03-2020 01:40 PM

I'll probably still continue to crop dust anyone that still wears a mask.

Not me. I think you really get to know another man when you can grip their hand firmly, pull them in close and give them a good stare down.

Megatron96 12-03-2020 01:42 PM

None. I can't wait for the world to go back to normal. Well, except for being 25 lb. overweight. Enjoying weighing less than I did as a senior in HS, can't lie.

jdubya 12-03-2020 01:42 PM

None. I only wear a mask in public when indoors because I know many will lose their crap in fear if I dont. However with family and friends I am a hand shaker and hugger and never stopped during all this. At the same time I have always liked a buffer zone when I am having dinner or drinks in a bar/restaurant.....not because of covid but i just dont want to smell anybodys bad breath or stand too close to those who spit while talking.

BigBeauford 12-03-2020 01:43 PM

Not much. I'm a social person in most regards.

Used to enjoy going to casinos pre-COVID. I could see myself wearing a mask in casinos moving forward (as long as I'm not the only one!)......especially if more casinos revert back to allowing smoking.

That's a good one. I've really stepped up my handwashing game, both in quality and quantity. It'll be hard for me to not go wash my hands when picking up a public object going forward. I'm a bit of a germophobe to start with, and this has amplified it.

KCUnited 12-03-2020 01:51 PM

Plan to go back to celebrating Chiefs Super Bowl victories every February.

Baby Lee 12-03-2020 01:52 PM

Probably gonna cut back on hopping on oceangoing freighters for sightseeing purposes.

Imagine starting on a pleasure trip to Vietnam last February and still sitting in that bunkroom coasting somewhere on the Sargasso Sea today.

htismaqe 12-03-2020 01:53 PM

Nothing is going to change for me.

I've been working from home for over 10 years. I already practice appropriate hygiene as far as hand washing and covering my mouth when I sneeze/cough.

displacedinMN 12-03-2020 01:55 PM

masks in public places

not having to handshake as much....it does get a little cumbersome at times.

Actually, if you've got internet it's not all that different. Early in the pandemic I joked that I've socially isolated for two of the past three Aprils.

Buehler445 12-03-2020 02:12 PM

Honestly the day to day administration of my life hasn’t changed much.

My wife teaches and has to wear a mask, but I rarely see people and when I do they rarely have a mask.

So hopefully none.

Fish 12-03-2020 02:19 PM

Only thing that's really changed for me is not going to bars for social drinking and bar games. I'll probably go back to that after, but likely not in the same capacity. I've reduced eating out by quite a bit, and that will likely carry over a bit as well since I'm saving so much money now.

Same as me, my wife is a para and wears masks all day, and Im like most farmers, simply outstanding in my field. :-)

Iowanian 12-03-2020 02:39 PM

I'll probably continue to wash my hands more, but I'd already been doing that the past few years due to my wife nagging me about germs and doing a demo with glowgerm.

I'll probably improve some of my preparations for events outside my control.

I'll go out of my way to support small businesses and tip the servers in those businesses better to help them out.

I'll go out of my way to make sure Rona doesn't change my life long term.

I'll continue to conduct some of my meetings remotely, which will mean I'll continue to travel for business less. However I intend to resume in-person meetings when it's time. I'll cut back but won't eliminate them.

That's about it. I'd like to continue the trend of not wearing pants day or night but at some point that will likely have to end.

Add this one to my list as well. I'll always have at least 30 days of canned food, rice and beans, and protein bars on hand. There's a plentiful supply of water in my back yard so that's not a concern.

I've actually been going to casinos, but with much less frequency. I just make sure I hang out in the poker room because they actually enforce masks there. Out on the casino floor especially at the slot machines nobody really seems to obey the rules.

When everyone wears a mask, it is quite effective. When only some people wear them, much less - obviously.

Nonetheless, should probably stop going. Tsk tsk tsk. Probably not going to go any places before xmas if my family has it to make sure I'm safe.

Covid has shown me that I need to take care of my body. I admittedly packed on about 7 lbs since the lockdown started but I’ve been to the gym 3X a week for over 2 months now and honestly as much as it sucked at first, it’s kind of fun when you’re in shape.

I lost 12 lbs and 2% body fat and I think that I’ve improved my diet as much as anything.

I am at the tail end of covid and I really do believe that work helped my immune system beat this thing rather easily.

I hope this will be a permanent change for me

KCUnited 12-03-2020 03:17 PM

Haircuts are a thing of the past for me now

Keeping with the Wildling look

kepp 12-03-2020 03:32 PM

The biggest change for me & my family would be work situations. My wife and her team are going to be permanently working from home now, and my company may do the same. If we both continue to work from home then we will likely look at getting into a bigger place with more space for separate office areas.

As far as habits, I'm looking forward to going out to eat with friends again. I was part of a group of guys that would try to go to a new restaurant every week. I miss doing that. Grocery shopping...I'm not sure. The curbside pickup has be hit-and-miss. There's been several instances of them saying that something is out of stock only to be in stock when I go in the store.

...and the bidet will get serious consideration.

Ah. Why do you contract it "reside"? Seems unnecessary.

So bottom line, we're scared of residue. i might get stuff on my hands.

Ohmygod. Whatever shall I do?

Look, I'm not scared of some residue. or 'fluids.' Or whatever.

I've been covered in mud for days, as recently as a couple months ago. Drank water from a river. Didn't shower for a week while fishing 10 hours a day in 90 degree heat and ate food with my unwashed hands. I've been up to my armpits in the chest cavities of more than a dozen deer, or otherwise covered in the blood of countless gamebirds and animals. And shook a lot of hands while doing so over 4 decades. Not to mention to dozen or so quail I pulled the innards out of earlier this year.

Actually, the two best handshakes I can remember was the time I was covered in the guts and blood of my first buck with my dad, and when my brother finally got his first deer a few years later.

'Reside' isn't really a thing for me.

Looking at it now, I'm infinitely glad I wasn't raised to have such phobias.

Do you guys wash your hands immediately after finger-banging your girl/boy friend before you get to homebase, or do you just forego putting your naked finger inside another person entirely?

Must be kind of inconvenient, not to mention something of a mood killer.
