****2012-2013 Fantasy Football Repository Thread****
I did my first year of fantasy baseball -- I cannot tell you how much I'm ready for FF after that cluster****.
I figured this would be a good thread prior to most team's drafts. When the time comes we can start a "rate my team" thread, and also a "sit/start thread." So, how many leagues are you joining? What intrigues you the most? What player/s flying under the radar do you think will impact the FF world the most? Also, cheap plug --- Mr. Plow's league needs one more player. It's a fun IDP league. I'm sure he'll be along to promote it -- we only want handsome, well hung gentlemen like ourselves. It'd be fun to get a CPer into that last spot. |
If anyone is interested......
12 team league $40 entry 15 man starting lineup (QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, DL, DL, LB, LB, LB, CB, FS/S) Scoring is fairly basic Shoot me a PM, or ask questions here if you might be interested. Draft is Saturday, Aug. 18th. Thanks CJ! |
My first draft is only 30 days away [yikes]. My main league this year is having a reunion of sorts in Vegas for a live draft. This is the 10th year for the leage (very little turnover) comprised mainly of a bunch of guys I met while most of us were in the Army. I haven't seen some of these guys in 8+ years, but can't wait for that draft.
I know that the 26th of July is insanely early to draft, but we've generally started way early except for the past couple of years due to deployments, so it won't be a huge factor for us. |
Quote:
Also, with an early draft like that how do you guys do injuries? Like, if your first rounder tears his ACL in a preseason game? |
Quote:
With the draft that early you just have to hope you don't get hosed. We have had it happen before, but that's life. In 2004 (give or take a year or two) we had a guy draft Vick in the 2nd when he went out for most of the year with a broken leg and he also lost another really high draft pick as well. |
Quote:
Where you guys having it? I will be in good ole' Wichita and Hutchinson for my three drafts. Two are competitive drafts that are $40 buy ins and one $10 buy in with the family that's primarily for bragging rights. Oh, Wichita/Hutch trumps Vegas any day! LMAO |
That's why we have started so early in the past at times. If we have no one deployed we do a live online draft after the 3rd preseason game like every other league, but that's only happened three times. The other five times we have done a E-mail draft which can take up to a month with a 12 hour clock for those stateside and an unlimited (though in the past we have made a pick for a guy after waiting four days) clock for anyone deployed.
This will be our first live in person draft since the original one in 2003. We actually haven't decided completely on the venue for the draft. Five of us are staying downtown and have talked about just doing it in my suite (the Mrs is going with) and a few of the guys are staying on the strip (Cosmopolatin), while yet a few others are staying at the camp ground on Nellis AFB. |
Quote:
I'm the same way. It really isn't about the money for me. Which is good because I never win anyway. More about just the fun. This years draft, I'm going to try to make it an all day thing. Golf in the morning, then draft in the evening. |

Yeah, that's the way to do a draft. Got any free slots available in your league? Oh yeah, I'll need a plane ticket, hotel room, and some spending cash. I'll cover the bag fee to get my clubs out there. |
Fly Southwest, they'll take care of the :) bag fee

Matt Cassel first round. You are welcome.

Draft order is set now for that league. I'll have #4.
With 6 points per passing TD and .5 per reception, I don't generally do it, but unless Foster or Rice fall to me I may very well go QB in round 1. Matthews and McCoy are certainly in play there but I think that either Rogers OR Brady would be the safer pick by far over either of them. Thoughts? |
Quote:
How do you think the top three picks will go? |
I think they will go Foster, Rice, McCoy, but one of them could throw a curve and take Rogers or Mattews with the .5 per reception.
I looked at stuff this morning and right now MY top four is Foster, Rice, Rogers, Brady |
Quote:
|
Yep, If you look, in most PPR leagues he ended up as the #6 RB and that was splitting carries with Tolbert. With no one to take carries, he's going to be one of very few 3-down backs. I won't take him there, but he's going to go in the top 6-7 in more leagues than not this season.
This is a true, "You can't win your league in the first round, but can lose it there" type of pick, IMO. |
Quote:
And I still think he's too injury prone to merit first round material. |
I don't disagree at all. I'm just saying his ADP in non-PPR leagues is 1.06 right now as the 4th RB taken. *
OK, I guess someone taking him in the top 3 is wishful thinking. *Top 12 right now are a ADP of Foster, McCoy, Rice, Rogers, Calvin Johnson, Matthews, Brady, Chris Johnson, Jones-Drew, McFadden, Brees, Murray |
Quote:
I would take: Rice, Foster, MJD, McCoy, Forte (assuming he plays), and MAYBE even SJax before Matthews. |
What site(s) do you use for mocks?
|
Quote:
|
I mainly use fantasyfootballcalculator since there are a LOT less idiots on them than there are on either ESPN or CBSSports. I like antsports as well, but they only have "slow" mocks.
|
Quote:

Mocks on FFToday? have been on there since '02, is there somethign new I don't know of?
|
Quote:
But I'm not 100% sure. |
most of us there use either ffc or antsports. I don't think Mike actually has mocks on the site
|
Who has the better situation and is worth keeping? Either one costs me an 18th rounder.
Victor Cruz Demaryius Thomas Right now I'm leaning Cruz. |
Cruz over that gimp Delirium Tremens

I've got a draft the 18th, 25th, and 26th in August.

I didn't know how to spell his first name originally. I'd never dare tarnishing the true DT, sir. |
The site for my Vegas draft was apparently just decided (I'm sure nobody really gives a damn, but I'm kinda excited about it).
One of the guys just E-mailed there are no objections* he's going to hire a dealer for poker and then for the draft he's going to have it catered and hire a server (I'm reading stripper to serve drinks but could be wrong) and a bartender and they will just set up in his suite. He's got a wraparound terrace suite at the Cosmopolatin. I mean, the dude has more money than one fellow oughta need anyway (he's one of the ones still on active duty and is a Colonel), but what I'm assuming he's gonna spend on this weekend he would have to win the league for 10 years running to even come close to breaking even. *methinks nobody is gonna object |
Sounds cool. Take pics!

Thanks for the sticky.
Who else has drafts this month? |
Old Dog -- you should take some pictures of your draft party. And the sluts.

Picking 3/12 in a league.
No PPR. #1 guy is a wildcard -- let's assume he takes Foster. #2 is a huge GB guy -- Rodgers off the board. Who should I be targeting with #3? Who holds more value in your mind? McCoy or Rice? |
Well the draft party weekend went off without much of a hitch.
My team came off as follows: round picked in parentesis and bench players in brackets QB: Rodgers(1) [Freeman (11)] RB: Richardson (2),S. Jackson(3),D. Martin(4)flex [Starks(8)] WR: J. Jones(5),A.Brown(7) [Britt(9), Amendola(13) Baldwin(15)] TE: Gates(6) [Cook (12)] K: Kaeding (14) D/ST: Dallas (10) [Kansas City (16)] *Amendola and KC D/ST were actually picked in rounds 13.10 and 14.3 after trading M. Crabtree (picked 11.4 and my 16th rounder) Below are some pics (one of the dealer from the end of the poker game is probably NSFW). Didn't get any of her stripping/just dealing topless. 1 - One of the monster bunkers at Royal Links on Thursday (I didn't hit it in there, I just wondered WTF I was supposed to do if I had) 2 - Rough at Royal Links (yeah, he was playing out of that) 3 - The 8 that ended up showing up....4 had to back out last minute (oh well....we knew that was a possibility) 4 - Draft in progress 5 - Dealer with poker winner 6 - Prepped to jump off of the Stratosphere 7 - Just a view off of the balcony while we were out smoking a cigar
Spoiler!

Any explanation on why you went T-Rich with rd. 2 pick? I think he's a solid back -- but Cleveland is just a bunch of MEH to me. |
It took me a while to get them posted. They should work now.
As for T-Rich, he's gonna get all of the RB touches there and I admittedly have him higher than most (he's my #10 RB). With a current ADP of 14.5 overall, I really liked him there. |
Quote:
I just think Cleveland is one dimensional. Hopefully Weeden proves me wrong -- if so, TRich could be a solid pick. |
Picking #2 in a draft.
12 teamer. The guy picking #1 is a hugee GB homer. Rodgers will be taken.. No ppr. I almost have to take Foster, right? |
Foster or Ray Rice....yeah.
|
Quote:
But I kind of like McCoy a hair more than Rice this year. |
Quote:
Personally I rank them Rice, Foster, McCoy. |
I think you can't go wrong with any three of them.
Right now I would rank them: Foster, McCoy, Rice. |
12 Man PPR League. Start 2 RB, 3WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 QB, 1 K, 1 D/ST
I drafted 10th spot in a snake draft. QB's went fast and furious - Big 3 gone by pick #4. Flame Away! QB: Ben Rapherberger (7th), Alex Smith (13th) RB: Michael Turner (4th), Peyton Hillis (6th), Isaac Redmond (8th), James Starks (9th), LaMichael James (14th), Mike Tolbert (16th) WR: Greg Jennings (1st), AJ Green (3rd), Marquez Colston (5th), Randall Cobb (11th), Kendall Wright (15th) TE: Gronkowski (2nd) D: CHIEFS, duh (12th) K: Seabass (10th) |

I would never pick Jennings in the first with the way Rodgers spreads it around. Is this a keeper league? I just don't see how you pick Jennings at 10 over the possible RBs available, or even Jimmy Graham if it isn't. WR is also incredibly deep this year, while RB is embarrassingly shallow. Curious who you passed on to pick Jennings. Since the top 3 qbs went off the board quick, I assume a good back fell to you? Your backs are terrible, especially for ppr. I feel like you're going to be scrambling all year looking for production from that position. All your RBs are in a time share and don't help out much in the passing game aside from Hillis but I think he takes a step back in that department due to Jamaal. Turner is slowly being squeezed out of the equation in a pass heavy offense and ATL has said they will lower his carries. And Redman just isn't any good. Also not a big fan of picking a kicker or defense that early when you can fill up on your other positions. I do like the Ben pick/waiting on a qb in general. I like him a lot this year and qb is very deep so if you can't get one of the top 5 in the 3rd-4th range then I think it's much better to just wait and get a Romo, Ryan, Ben, Rivers, Eli, Cutler. I'm waiting on qb regardless this year but i do see the reasoning of picking the top 3 early. I just don't see any way that your team is competitive unless you just kill it on the waiver wire. Just my opinion. |
I think Rush was being too nice with his assessment of that team.

I didn't have a ton of elite backs left by the 10th pick, which is a tough spot to draft. Foster, Rice, McCoy, Forte, Calvin Johnson, Chris Johnson, and the 3 QBs were all gone. My logic was Matthews is glass (thank god, as he broke his collarbone 15 minutes after i made that decision!), McFadden is coming back from LisFranc surgery, Trent Richardson had surgery and is a rookie and on the browns, Jamaal is coming off ACL and will split carries, and I dont like MJD. Jimmy Graham ****ed his back up yesterday in practice, too. So the highest player I had at the time were WRs. Fitz or Jennings. I love Fitz, but I dont trust the QB(s?) or AZ defense to help him. I figure I'll have a lot more opportunity for points with Jennings and the Pack, even if its spread around. In the second, I had to go Gronk. Graham was injured, and the point advantage I will have over everyone else's TE's is immense, and could help to win tight games. 24 picks later, RB was scarce. Since everyone had loaded up at RB, i figured other position groups would go off the board, so I grabbed AJ Green - remember, we have 3 WR's + flex. I was able to get Turner in the 4th. Didnt have a ton of options, but I agree, not a stellar team. I feel comfortable that I did well considering how the board fell. |
Quote:
We have different outlooks in FF. I much rather swing for the fences on an elite talent and guy in a great situation but has injury concerns (McFadden, Matthews, Richardson) than play it safe and get a normal season that you would get out of Jennings, especially when you consider the depth at wr this year. Those guys can win leagues for you. Jennings isn't going to do that. I wouldn't go wr early this year except for Calvin but if I were give me Julio ten times out of ten over Jennings. Higher upside. I probably would have taken McFadden in that spot but if you asked me yesterday morning it might have been Matthews. |
Quote:
I do not see McFadden performing well or even finishing the season. |
I would have taken Fitz over Jennings.

So, you have the #7 pick overall. And you pick seventh each round.
You traded your fourth rounder last year. Does your mindset change with the first three picks? |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Unless a RB like Rice or McCoy falls. Almost assuredly Rodgers, Foster, Brady, Brees will be gone. That leaves McCoy, Rice or Megatron there at #7. |
What's your starting lineup look like? Are you keeping anyone? PPR?
|
Quote:
No ppr. |
I would probably rank them.
1a. Rice 1b. McCoy 2. Megatron You really can't go wrong with either one of those three at the 7th pick. |
Quote:
I'm against drafting WR early this year too but Megatron is the exception. Too dominant and too good. Since you don't have a fourth rounder I would probably target a RB next since it's so shallow and qb and wr are deep. You can def. get good receivers, tight ends and qbs after round 4 but running backs? Not so much. But it's hard to say for sure without seeing how the draft unfolds. |
Quote:
But, for me it is tough drafting a WR in the first round. I'm hoping McCoy or Rice fall to me. |

Big upcoming weekend for me.
Draft on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is a redraft league, which'll turn into a keeper league. $40 buy-in IDP -- super fun league. Sunday is the second annual family league. $10 entry. Not a whole lot -- but, bragging rights and a trophy for the year is normally a good time. |
i don't usually post here but I need help with a very odd/weird fantasy league i joined at the last minute (40 buy in) and I am just so lost confused/had such a bad draft I was hoping for any help to look for potential sleepers/FAs that might break out this year cause I'll need them.
The scoring is a little off, I know it's not standard scoring and it is a league that has a bunch of those crazy bonuses like 5 points for a 200+ yard rushing game or 1 point for a 40+ yard pass. At least I dont remember stuff like that being standard fantasy scoring anyway here is my awful team QB - Cam Newton, RGIII, Jay Cutler, Tim Tebow RB - Roy Helu, Green Ellis, Taiwan Jones, McCluster (lol) WR - Vincent Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Heyward Bey, Jon Baldwin TE - Rob Gronkowski, Vernon Davis, Coby Fleener DEF - Chiefs McCluster and Baldwin were my last two picks out of desperation and hope one of them might get lucky and break out/homerism on my end. I know I need help at RB badly, and I already got an offer for Vernon Davis for Antonio Brown and I am considering doing it since I dont need two TEs, even though I can play two at the same time. QB heavy because you can play two QBs at once, and the potential of 4 scrambling QBs is a threat in rushing as well to hit any of the bonuses at any given week imo, so I stashed Tebow and RGIII, well I actually reached high for RGIII and Cam was my first round pick. Cutler I got good value on so I couldnt pass him up. It's non-ppr. Any RB or WR I could stash of the waiver wire would be big help. Am I right in thinking that guys like Kendall Hunter and Jaquizz Rodgers are worth taking a stash on? How about Kendall Wright for the Titans? Anyone else? Also is Vernon Davis for Antonio Brown worth it or should I just deploy Gronk and Vernon week to week. I can play one at flex. a starting lineup would be QB - Cam Newton RB - Helu RB- Lawfirm WR - VJax WR - Garcon TE - Gronk Flex- Vern Davis OP (you can play a QB here) - RGIII DEF - Chiefs I mean how much is RB or WR worth here if I can play two red zone threat TEs and two QBs? I know playing two TE's usually isnt a good idea but at that point going for both of them was BPA at the time when others ahead made runs at good RBs/WRs etc and there was such a drop off that I grabbed the 1 and 3 rated TEs off the sheet out of panic. What a messed up structure, i am so lost with this set up. |
Honestly your team isn't as bad as you say it is. Running back is terrible but otherwise you are ok. And Bjge might be a serviceable 2nd RB in non ppr considering his goal line prowess. Helu isn't even starting right now so I wouldn't be comfortable playing him.
Kendall Wright on the ww? Pick him up ASAP. Locker looks like hes going to be the starter and loves throwing to Wright. The Brown for Davis trade is one I would normally do ASAP, but considering your bad running backs and strength at wr, I would try to flip Davis and maybe someone else for a solid RB. Buy low on a Richardson maybe? Doubt that works but would be ideal. I would even trade him for Hillis in non ppr in a heartbeat. Goal line beast and we both know the chiefs are gonna pound the rock. If you can't find a RB you are comfortable starting then do the trade. Brown is poised to have a huge year. Maybe later in the year you can flip one of your receivers for a RB. And tight end is pretty mediocre after the top 2 so you can get a serviceable option on the ww to replace Davis in case Gronk ever goes down. Rudolph, Cook, Olsen? I would also look into picking up backup running backs of often injured players. Goodson on the ww? Pick him up. David Wilson? Same. You mentioned Kendall Hunter. Same idea. Obviously can't pick them all up but get the ones you prefer. You would be an injury away from a good starting RB. Drop Dexter too. He's gonna be a non factor esp. in non ppr. I would def keep Baldwin though. And Taiwan Jones? Ehh not expecting much especially in non ppr. Would much rather have Rodgers or any of the above backs I mentioned. I also wouldn't carry 3 tight ends. If you are able to trade Davis then just carry gronk if your league allows that. Wow lol that was long. Just my suggestions take them fwiw. |
mcaj -
I would love to offer [i]some[/b] sort of insight but that structure is so strange. I doubt I'd help you out any. Regardless -- good luck. Maybe, see if Tebow gets some goal line snaps early in the year -- and try to package him. |

I think he's going to be my first round pick, unless, McCoy or Rice falls. |
