Yeah nothing against him, regardless of his numbers just last year on his deal and probably didn't want to ask him to take 1/4 of the money as disrespectful as that would've been. Wish him the best, glad we could get 2 rings with him.

A few big catches in big moments for which I will be eternally grateful. A lot of awful drops, but as far as I can remember he limited those to the regular season.

He'll sign somewhere this season but it will probably just be a 1 year deal. Then he'll bounce around for a year or two but that will be it unless he gets much better than what we saw here.

Said it after the Cincy game, it's doubly so after this season's playoff run - MVS should never have to buy a beer in Kansas City again.

He obviously had some struggles during the regular season but when we needed him in the playoffs, he was there. And that was a strange theme for the guy over his 2 years here.

If he comes back at/near the vet minimum after a market doesn't develop for him, I won't be upset about it. If he goes somewhere and gets $6-8 million next season, that won't bother me either.

We'll have ultimately paid $18 million for 2 years of MVS (spread over 3 years of cap). Not a great return on that but hell, we've spent more money on worse. Hope he lands somewhere next year and finds a groove. How many HoF quarterbacks are there left in the league for him to disappoint?

Is he gonna go to Buffalo to replace Davis? I'd take Allen over any other QB in the league right now so that's gotta be his play. Dude's taste in QBs is pristine...

Dude has 2 rings in 2 years...not many guys can say that. He'll get a gig somewhere, prolly with the Jets or something. He'll be fine...and we'll roll on without him cuz except for some critical shit in the playoffs, he was pretty awful this season.

Stepped up HUGE in the most dire moments!! Dude is a 2x champ and has his place cemented in the lore of KC's hay day. I'll never forget that TD he had against Cincy in the AFCCG. I was stunned in that moment.

Even if he had an average year, most of us thought this 3rd year was fluff and he would be cut when he signed the contract. He game up big in the playoffs and I thank him for that...

That's a great point. Every starting QB he's had is a first ballot HOF guy.

Was he overpaid? Sure, but what would you have paid for the contributions he made in the AFCCGs and the SB in hindsight, if we'd lost those games?

Chiefs will almost certainly have a new starting WR opposite Rice who isn't currently on the roster.

Even though it seemed like he was invisible for a lot of his time here, MVS was involved in a lot of the best plays of the lsat two years.

He made a ton of good plays...the catch in the 4th quarter against Baltimore, touchdowns in the super bowl, etc. However, he was infurating at times too - no moreso than when he ran backwards in the Super Bowl instead of just getting tackled near the 1st down marker. Mahomes had to pull one out just to keep that game tying drive going.

In the end, it is a business

He made great plays but I think any other average nfl receiver makes those same plays , he ran lazy routes and sometimes quit on them and never seemed to fight through DB to make plays , few big drops I think we should be able to upgrade for much cheaper .

Prediction: faiders & their PMII obsessed coach will make a run at signing MVS.This inane attempt to crack the Chiefs’ Code will only result in MORE faider failure. Possibly a good opportunity for MVS to pillage their salary cap.

Say what you want about MVS but he made a clutch play in the Super Bowl that very few wide receivers could ever make.

Turning a 6 yard gain into a four yard loss in OT. Unfortunately for the 49ers that clutch play wasn't quite enough for them to get the W.

Chargers are in cap hell with Bosa , Mack, Williams and Allen all making over 30 mil so they'll have to cut a WR . MVS might fit.

Chiefs To Release Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Marquez Valdes-Scantling collected two Super Bowl rings as a veteran presence in what became a wildly inconsistent Chiefs receiving corps. The ex-Packer, of course, contributed to the inconsistency. And his cap charge in 2024 will lead to a separation.

The Chiefs are expected to release Valdes-Scantling, according to ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler. The move will save $12MM for the two-time reigning champions. MVS was due to make $11.56MM in nonguaranteed base salary next season.

While Valdes-Scantling frequently drew scrutiny due to his drop penchant — not exactly the lone Chiefs cog to struggle on this front — he made some important contributions as a member of the team. MVS caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl LVIII and snagged a deep toss from Patrick Mahomes that held off the Ravens in the AFC championship game. In the 2022 AFC title game, the Chiefs lost their three other top receivers due to injury. Valdes-Scantling’s 116-yard performance played a pivotal role in the Chiefs fending off the Bengals.

But the NFL’s latest dynasty is in need of cap space due. Both Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed are due for free agency. The Chiefs are prepared to tag Sneed, at $19.8MM, but as of Wednesday morning, they did not hold enough cap room to even do that. With the team still in talks with Jones, the $12MM in additional funds will help. Though, the future Hall of Famer is a real threat to hit the market come March 11.

Shortly after trading Tyreek Hill in March 2022, the Chiefs reached an agreement with Valdes-Scantling to come over from the Packers. MVS signed a three-year, $30MM deal that morphed into a pay-as-you-go structure following the 2022 season. The Chiefs liked enough about what they saw to keep the former fifth-round pick in 2023, doing so as they let JuJu Smith-Schuster walk in free agency. MVS finished with 687 receiving yards in 2023 but tailed off — the AFC title game resurgence notwithstanding — down the stretch. Last season, the up-and-down pass catcher totaled only 315 yards despite playing 16 games. A crucial drop may have cost the Chiefs a November win against the Eagles.

While MVS joined Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore in submitting iffy seasons that turned wide receiver into the team’s biggest weakness, the veteran was still needed down the stretch. The Chiefs effectively determined they were a more reliable offense without Moore and Toney. Neither of the young receivers played after Week 15. Kansas City went 6-0 without the drop-prone pass catchers henceforth, but both Toney and Moore remain tied to rookie deals. Toney’s January outburst on social media — related to the team keeping him on its injury report for the AFC championship game — preceded the former first-round pick becoming a healthy scratch for Super Bowl LVIII. The 2022 trade acquisition is far from certain to be a Chief in 2024.

In addition to Moore, the Chiefs still roster 2023 second-round pick Rashee Rice. Backup wideout Justin Watson, who became a more important piece due to the higher-profile WRs’ drop issues, is also under contract for the ’24 season. It is a mortal lock, however, the Chiefs make a major upgrade attempt at the position this offseason.
