I'd always thought that way, but the article's point about developers moving where the people are is a valid one.

I don't think it'll ever be anywhere close to where the Mac vs. Windows thing is in terms of software availability since apps are generally much simpler to program than full-fledged desktop applications are. However, if the forecasts posted earlier are accurate, that would leave iOS with only 1/3rd the market share as iOS. Add to that the fact that Blackberry is adding a way to run Android apps, and that's roughly 4 times as many users who can run Android apps as iOS apps. I'd think that would cause fairly significant changes in the amount of effort developers put into apps for iOS, but I guess we'll see.

Not that anyone is really arguing this point.. but saw this today so I thought I'd post it :D

Baird Research surveyed 250 mobile developers, and the results were picked up by Fortune's Apple columnist, Philip Elmer-DeWitt.

Baird found that 71% are writing apps for Android, versus only 62% for Apple's iOS.

Based on what I have seen so far... we have a new clear cut winner in the tablet space...

http://www.asus.com/websites/global/...zhdV/P_500.jpg

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=gHh4q7I8dvWJzhdV

Has all the specs you could want... + a cool docking station that adds a keyboard and extra battery life along with a full sized SD card reader and extra USB ports.

...and most important of all... CHEAP! MSRP for the base model is supposed to be $400

ok it isn't as cheap as it needs to be (<$351) but we are getting there!

Nice! I love ASUS products, and I'm excited to see that it might be in my price range. Any word on a release date?

This looks interesting, but I don't know how you can declare anything but the iPad the winner in the tablet space. Maybe a few years from now someone else will sell more?

It was just released overseas and is expected to go on sale here sometime in the next 10 days! No confirmation on the price yet, but two separate reports have it at $400 for the 16GB model without 3G

umm... winner as in the far superior piece of equipment. No SINGLE device will replace the iPad... instead a multitude of different ones will bury it into the same niche that panders to the pretentious gheys that buy Macs... :D :p

Much like intestinal microbes can lay low the mighty lion, king of the jungle. The legion of parasitic 'droids may one day overcome the regal iPad. /fanboi

So...at the risk of interrupting the epic debate in this thread, would it make more sense to start a new "Android tablet watch" thread or something like that? Seems like there are a lot of folks on here waiting for some good options, so it might be nice to have a good resource for it now that there are a few good ones starting to appear.

May I suggest a suitable thread title:

"Vaporware and wishful thinking..." (just kidding..... sort of).

Sounds like a good idea.

If you were going to get that, why wouldn't you just get a netbook? Adding a keyboard, battery, USB ports and a SD card reader completely defeats the purpose of a tablet.

Yeah, I get it that it's detachable, but if you have to carry all that other shit around to make it awesome, why not just get a computer?

When it is in tablet form, how does it actually perform?

When it is in tablet form, it performs like a tablet. Why would it be any different than other options? Are you somehow insinuating that expansion options are a BAD thing?
